Mazda Motor Corp. announced today a series of organizational changes that is says are aimed at boosting “organizational efficiency and speed up the decision making process for operations in each region,” The Detroit News reported.
The Hiroshima-based automaker also announced that it will put new emphasis on electric vehicles, establishing a new department to oversee the development of electric drive systems, the News said.
Mazda, which is known for producing sporty cars, has largely ignored the trend toward vehicle electrification. It had said that hybrids and other electric vehicles were not compatible with its “Zoom Zoom” brand image, the paper said. But that appears to be changing in the face of new government regulations aimed at promoting gasoline alternatives, the story said. (The Detroit News)
