Motorcycle Stability Control System

02/18/2014

As promised, KTM has made available the new Motorcycle Stability Control system as a retrofit kit for 2013 1190 Adventure and Adventure R models.

Quote:
The 1190 Adventure models are the first motorcycles to be equipped with the MSC system from Bosch. MSC works with the 1190′s combined antilock braking and traction control systems, allowing both rider assist aids even when leaned over. KTM claims MSC will help prevent low-side crashes, reduce rear wheel skidding while leaned over and minimize the motorcycle’s tendency to try to right itself when braking while leaning.

Yamaha Recalls 2009-13 YZF-R1

Yamaha Recalls 2009-13 YZF-R1 And 2012-13 Super Tenere For Potential Headlight Malfunction

February 24 2014

Report filed with the NHTSA:

Report Receipt Date: FEB 10, 2014

NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V044000

Component(s): headlight, bulb, socket

Potential Number of Units Affected: 24,000

Manufacturer: Yamaha Motor USA

SUMMARY: Yamaha Motor Corporation USA (Yamaha) is recalling certain model year 2009-2013 YZFR1 motorcycles manufactured October 2008 through August 2013 and 2012-2013 XTZ12 (Super Tenere) motorcycles manufactured October 2011 through August 2013. In the affected motorcycles, use of the headlight may generate enough heat to cause the bulb connections to expand, resulting in arcing in the headlight bulb socket which could cause the socket to overheat, melt and cause the headlight to malfunction.

CONSEQUENCE: A headlight failure reduces the rider’s ability to see clearly and the motorcycle’s visibility to oncoming traffic, increasing the risk of a crash.

REMEDY: Yamaha will notify owners and dealers will replace the headlight socket, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin in February 2014. Owners may contact Yamaha at 1-800-962-7926.

NOTES: Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to the NHTSA website.

Recall Alert: Honda CB500

Honda Recall of Certain 2013 CB500 (FA, F, XA, X) and CBR500 (RA, R) Motorcycles

07 Mar 2014

SUMMARY: Honda is recalling certain model year 2013 CB500 (FA, F, XA, X) and CBR500 (RA, R) motorcycles. The rocker arm shaft retaining bolts may have been manufactured incorrectly resulting in the bolts loosening during engine operation. A loose bolt will initially result in a slow leak of engine oil, but if not addressed, the bolt can come out of the cylinder head entirely.

CONSEQUENCE: Without a bolt, the engine will have reduced power which may result in a stall, increasing the risk of a crash.

REMEDY: Honda will notify owners, and dealers will replace the rocker arm shaft retaining bolts, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin in March 2014. Owners may contact Honda Customer Service at 1-866-784-1870.

NOTES: Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to Home | Safercar -- National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The motor rotor may contact the stator while riding

Due to a possible manufacturing defect, the motor rotor may contact the stator while riding. That could cause the motor to seize, locking up the rear wheel which could increase the risk of a crash.
