New 2010 Taurus Purchased
It is really refreshing to read an article that likes anything from Detroit these days, let alone know you have bought such a vehicle! Yes the new Ford Taurus Limited seems to be a “hit” as shown here.
2010 Ford Taurus: An impressive new version - The Car Guide
and from other reviews. When we ordered one last month without being able to drive one or even see one since the Dealership had never receive one yet, Owner’s Satisfactions were listed at 6.8, now they are in the high 9’s!
Finished up the purchase yesterday and traded in Wife’s 2006 Explorer. It has been one of the most frustrating new car purchases I have ever had! Yes most of it was because of the Salesman. Could not really get a firm price because the Dealership required a VIN number of the new car purchased before taking in a trade?
Anyway I called yesterday and asked if there was a build date on our special ordered, fully-equipped 2010 Ford Taurus Limited. Salesman replied that he had meant to call but a hold had been placed on our order and that he did not know why. (first time we had talked since the original order requiring $500 down). We were both unhappy with him since “On-Line” inventory showed the Dealership had received two Taurus since then and he had not even called us to come in and test drive one or to view what we had ordered.
When he replied it was on hold I asked what is needed to cancel our order? He said he would get back to me. When he called back he said there had been a mistake (among many) and that our car had been built in Chicago and was waiting to be shipped and he had a VIN number!
We went in within an hour to sign all the paperwork and to trade in the Explorer! It may be hard to believe but some used car prices (even with 50K miles and nearly 4 years old) are increasing each week and this SUV is among them!) After our original go-a-round I decided to do a lot of “On-Line research on its trade-in value and what the Dealer cost and what other are paying for a new Taurus. I decided to attempt to receive the “Excellent” Black Book or Blue Book trade-in price that would require an investment of funds. See this higher amount is used on less than 5% of all vehicles traded in.
First off, the present Michelin tires I had purchased for this vehicle they wanted to replace and deduct $500. I took them back to Tire Barn where we had paid over $900.00 20K miles before, and had a new set installed for less than $400 under pro rate.
I went ahead and had the vehicle Dealer serviced for the 50K checkup.
I paid to have the SIRUS satellite and hands-free cell phone kits removed
I removed all Owners’ installed accessories. Example: Ventshades & hood deflector.
I had the vehicle professionally “detailed” inside and out. (they had deducted $590 to do this!)
I ran a CARFAX report that showed one owner, low mileage (less than15K per year?) no reported accidents or repairs and that the vehicle had been 100% dealer serviced and list all the dates and mileage.
So what did they offer when I took it in yesterday? Well less than what was offered a month before! Ha Ha (This later was another mistake they said.)
After arguing with the Salesman in a near empty showroom with Wife setting right next to me ready to walk out, on what the trade in was worth and that others were not paying full list price for the Taurus, the Sales manager came over and said what will it take? I told him $17,710 trade in and $749 off the new car, figures I had printed out. He said O.K.
Yes the Taurus is presently in short supply and in California sales are up 65% from a State that hates Detroit Iron. Salesman had said they could not discount this car! With all my On-Line research and investment to get the best price I obtained an additional $2,500 reduction over their original offer. On top of that we received a loan with a APR of 6.06. Very pleased now, but not a real enjoyable experience. I figured they will still make between 4K and 5K if they retail the Explorer and profit from the sale of the Taurus. Not a bad day for the Dealership. Car should be trucked in within the next two weeks and I we did drive the one and only new Taurus they had in stock. WOW what a drive and from the inside it is like a spaceship.
Forgot a few more mistakes on the final Sales Agreement that I caught. One was a $399 Document Fee (later reduced to $150) and some charge of $199 to place identification tags on parts if the car is stolen and parted out! Told them if my Insurance Company wanted to pay for this fine, but I was not!
Still have my Dodge NITRO R/T and no plans to trade it in ever!
