Pontiac MI Labor Day Event

Arts, Beats and Eats honors Big Three

Posted Monday, Aug 3, 2009, 10:20 am in Employee News

As a salute to the many past community contributions of the Big Three automakers and to rally support during this rough economic climate, Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson and Arts, Beats & Eats – Festival of Hope organizers today announced Chrysler Group LLC, Ford Motor Co. and General Motors Co. will receive complimentary exhibit space and sponsorship benefits during the festival.

“This was the least we could do to support and honor the millions of dollars the Big Three automakers have given back to the community,” Patterson said. “Economic conditions have reduced the number of civic initiatives our automakers are able to support and we want to thank them, especially Chrysler, the official sponsor of our last 12 events, for making the event possible for all of these years.”

Valued at $50,000 each, the automakers will receive a 3,500 square-foot exhibit space, which is large enough to display vehicles. They also will receive significant signage space, logo placement on entrance treatments and sponsor towers, and a major presence on the festival’s Web site, Arts, Beats & Eats 2009 as well as mentions in festival advertising.

Additionally, there will be a Big Three Music Stage, which will serve as a tribute to local Detroit-area musicians. Messages about “Buy from the Big Three, Support Detroit” will be broadcast throughout the festival.

“Arts, Beats & Eats has been a Labor Day tradition for Metro Detroit families since 1997 and Chrysler has been a proud sponsor of this annual end of summer event since its inception,” Mike Accavitti, President and CEO, Dodge Brand and the Chrysler Group’s lead executive for marketing said. “We appreciate the generosity and support Oakland County and the festival producers have shown by allowing us to continue our involvement in this year’s event.”

“All of us at Ford Motor would like to thank L. Brooks Patterson and Arts, Beats & Eats for the opportunity to play an active role in this festival,” Kenneth Czubay, vice president of sales and marketing Ford Motor Co. said. “It’s an exciting time at Ford Motor Co. and we appreciate the vision and team spirit to support our great automotive industry.”

Steve Tihanyi, general director of marketing alliances and promotions of General Motors echoed Chrysler and Ford Motor Co.’s sentiments. “We have a major presence and a long history in Pontiac and are excited to be part of the American tradition of Labor Day weekend. This festival delivers a fabulous presentation of great music, food and art.”

Oakland County, WWJ Newsradio 950 and WDIV Channel 4 donated their display space to help make room for the Big Three exhibits.

Arts, Beats & Eats, Oakland County’s taste, music and arts festival is held over the Labor Day weekend, Sept. 4-7 in downtown Pontiac. The four-day festival will be open from 11 a.m.-11 p.m. on Friday (with art fair opening at 4 p.m.), 11 a.m.-11 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, and 11 a.m.-8 p.m. on Labor Day Monday.
