GM Recalls 2009 - 2010 Cadillac CTS and CTS-V

After failing to meet the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) standards, General Motors is recalling more than 20,000 Cadillac CTS and CTS-V sedans from the 2009 and 2010 model years due to issues with the front passenger knee airbag.

“In a frontal crash, an unbelted small adult, who is less than 5 feet tall and weighs 110 pounds, in the front passenger seat could be at risk for a leg injury,” says Kicking Tires.

If a crash occurs an unbelted “front passenger may be at an increased risk of leg injury,” the NHTSA explains in their release. There have been no reported accidents.

Of course, the best way to avoid serious injury is to buckle up. GM reminds drivers to do so.

NHTSA says the recall will begin on or before October 20, 2010, and dealers will replace the glove box assembly and, if necessary, modify the instrumental panel beam. All services are free of charge.

Detroit News reports that “dealers are to get parts to fix vehicles this week because GM dealers can't sell new or used vehicles covered by the recall until they are repaired.” Shoppers in the market for a 2009 or 2010 Cadillac CTS or CTS-V should make sure their dealer has followed NHTSA guidelines before they purchase one of these models.
