Fuel-Pump, Corrosion Issue Prompts 2009-2010 Mazda5 Recall

Mazda5 models from the 2009 and 2010 model years are being recalled due to a possible fuel-system problem that could lead to stalling and trouble restarting the engine.
According to a notice from the National Highway Traffic Safety
Administration (NHTSA), water might not have been cleared from a fuel-pump harness connector during a fuel-tank leak-check process prior to vehicle assembly. That could cause the connector pin to corrode and break and/or fail—leading to an inoperative fuel-pump, engine stalling, and failure to restart.
The recall affects 2009-2010 Mazda5 models assembled between June 29, 2009 and April 28, 2010. Owners are advised to take their vehicles to the dealership to have the affected connector inspected and potentially replaced free of charge.
The Mazda5 remains a unique vehicle in the North American market, as well as a favorite of several High Gear Media editors, for its small-car maneuverability, nimble handling, and available manual gearbox. The mini-minivan has been redesigned for 2011, with more exciting styling and upgraded interior appointments.
