Recall Alert: Cadillac SRXs

GM Recalls Cadillac SRXs for Air Bag Problem

By Liz Opsitnik

General Motors is recalling 47,401 Cadillac SRX crossover SUVs from the 2011 model year for an airbag programming problem. The luxury compact SUV’s right roof-rail airbag, which protects passengers’ heads, turns off if no one is sitting in the front passenger seat. Sensors in the front passenger seat determine by weight if someone is sitting there. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that if the right roof-rail airbag is off, someone sitting in the right rear seat will not be protected in a crash.

The 2011 Cadillac SRX owner's manual says the roof-rail air bags will inflate whether or not someone is sitting in the right front seat, the Associated Press reports. Because of this discrepancy, NHTSA determined the vehicle is not compliant with the occupant crash protection safety standard.

The recall affects Cadillac SRXs made from Feb. 2, 2010 through April 29, 2011. GM says no injuries have been reported that are related to this airbag problem, the AP reports. The recall will start on or about June 17, but GM will begin notifying owners today. Cadillac dealers will reprogram the sensors for free. Owners of affected SRX crossovers can contact Cadillac at 1-866-982-2339 or visit GM Owners Center - GM. SRX owners can also contact the NHTSA’s hotline at 1-888-327-4236 or visit www.safecar.gov.

SRX would definitely continue to help Cadillac in terms of sales and reputation, but of course they need to have a solid MCE and fix the issues as soon as possible. Anyway just wanna ask if they offer cheap prints to the manual for owners....aren't they?
