Recall Alert: Chaperon Infant Car Seats
Britax Recalls Chaperon Infant Car Seats
Nov 04, 2010
Quote:
Automakers aren’t the only companies that issue recalls. Car seat manufacturers do too. Britax is recalling certain models because of an incorrectly produced chest clip.
Specific models included in this recall are: E9L69N9 “Moonstone”; E9L69P2 “Red Mill”; E9L69P3 “Savannah”; E9L69P5 “Cowmooflage."
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) says that “Britax is recalling certain Britax Chaperon infant car seats…manufactured from April 2009 through May 2010.” The recall is due to an incorrectly produced chest clip that “could result in a more brittle chest clip than was intended.” The brittle chest clip could break when an infant is secured into the car seat, reports NHTSA.
If the clip were to break, KickingTires writes that “The clip’s sharp edges could cut the child’s skin or be a choking hazard.”
Consumer Reports, says “Britax is mailing consumer notices and remedy kits to registered consumers that include replacement clips and instructions. If your seat is not registered you will not receive a kit.” If you own one of the affected car seats, make sure to register it on Britax’s website. If you’re not sure if your seat is affected, you can call Britax directly at 1-888-427-4829 or NHTSA’s vehicle safety hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
Expect the recall campaign to begin around November 11.
