Recall Alert: Equinox, Terrain and SRX
GM Recalling Equinox, Terrain and SRX Crossovers
Dec 20, 2010
Quote:
The Chevrolet Equinox, GMC Terrain and Cadillac SRX are well-liked crossovers that deserve a lot of the credit for reviving General Motors. Now they’re being recalled.
“General Motors has issued a recall on its Theta crossover triplets, the Chevrolet Equinox, GMC Terrain and Cadillac SRX over safety belt buckle anchors that may fracture and separate in the event of a crash. A total of 97,843 vehicles are affected, all from the 2011 model year,” writes Autoblog.
GM explains, “Certain vehicles were produced with a seat belt buckle anchor with cracks that may contribute to a fracture if the buckle is rotated in a certain way and is subject to peak seat belt loads during a crash. If the buckle anchor separates, the seat belt system will no longer restrain the occupant in a secondary impact, increasing the potential for injury.” In an accident, the primary impact is when the vehicle collides with something, like a tree or another car. The secondary impact is when an unsecured vehicle occupant strikes something on the inside of the vehicle.
“GM is expected to begin the recall on or before January 18, 2011,” says Left Lane News, “and dealers will be modifying or replacing the questionable parts free of charge.”
