Ford Recalling 2009-10 F-150 Trucks

It seems like recalls from Ford practically rang in the New Year. And unfortunately, if you’re the owner of a 2009 or 2010 Ford F-150, you might be bringing your truck in for service. “Ford is recalling certain model year 2009 and 2010 F-150 vehicles manufactured from January 18, 2008, through November 30, 2009,” reports the NHTSA. “The interior door handle housing embossment retaining the interior door handle spring may fracture during normal usage resulting in insufficient spring force to return the handle to the fully stowed position.”
A fractured door handle piece may seem minor in the grand scheme of recalls. However, Autoblog notes that, “If this happens, the door latches may not fully return to their stowed position, and as a result, the doors may pop open during an accident.” Clearly a door flying open during a collision wouldn’t be a good scenario for anyone inside the vehicle.
While 362,946 trucks are affected total, the lion’s share of those were sold in the United States. Left Lane News reports, “The recall covers F-150s made from January 2008 to November 2009, including 280,946 trucks sold in the U.S., 68,000 in Canada and 14,000 in Mexico.”
Ford will start notifying owners affected by the safety recall around February 14, 2011. However, concerned owners can call Ford at 1-866-436-7332 to see if their truck is subject to the recall.
