Recall Alert: Ford Fusion, Explorer, Mercury Milan, Mountaineer

Posted: Apr. 26, 2010

Ford is recalling certain 2010 Ford Fusion sedans, Ford Explorer and Explorer Sport Trac SUVs, Mercury Milan sedans and Mercury Mountaineer SUVs in order to correct a defect that could cause the rear seatback to unexpectedly recline in the event of an accident. Not all vehicles of each type are affected. Ford believes that about 33,000 vehicles in total are impacted.

In a recall notice filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Ford explains, “The recliner gear plate teeth may be out of dimension specification which could result in limited pawl to gear plate tooth engagement. In the event of a crash, the seatback and head restraint may move rearward, increasing the risk of injury.” No injuries have been reported in connection with the defect.

Ford dealers will replace the seat recliners free of charge. Owners should receive a notice in the mail after April 30, 2010, but those who wish to make their own repair arrangements should contact Ford at 1-866-436-7332.
