Jaguar Recalls XF Models For Possible Fuel Leak

Jaguar Land Rover is recalling 4,195 Jaguar XF sedans, built for model years 2010, 2011 and 2012. At issue is a fuel tank outlet flange that is susceptible to cracking under certain conditions, leading to the possibility of a fuel spill.

Most of the vehicles affected by this recall were assembled in Jaguar’s Castle Bromwich, UK plant, between April 2009 and January 2010. Newer vehicles may have received the defective part during service, as parts were supplied to dealers through October 2012.

Jaguar XF models with cracked outlet flanges will likely trigger the “Check Engine” warning light, and may exhibit the odor of fuel in and around the car. In some cases, liquid fuel can accumulate under the fuel tank, leading to a fire risk in the presence of an ignition source.

Jaguar has not received any reports of fires, accidents or injuries related to this defect. Owners will be notified of the recall via mail, and the expected recall start date is on or before December 7, 2012. Dealers will replace the defective fuel tank outlet flange with a part utilizing a revised design, at no charge to consumers.
