RECALL ALERT: Toyota Tundra

2007-11 Toyota Tundra Recalled for Tire Pressure Sensors

By Jim Sharifi

May 18, 2011

If you bought a Toyota Tundra in the Southeast, your truck might be facing a recall for faulty tire pressure sensors. Motor Trend writes, “Toyota will recall 2007-2011 Tundras sold in the southeast because their tire-pressure monitoring systems may be faulty.”

The issue essentially involves the system’s failure to alert drivers when the tire pressure is low. NHTSA reports, “The TPMS on some vehicles may not have been properly calibrated and as a result the low tire pressure warning lamp may not illuminate should the inflation pressure in one or more of the vehicle's tires fall below the threshold for when the low tire pressure warning lamp should illuminate.”

The recall does not affect Tundras nationwide. “Approximately 1,629 pickups are affected by this recall, as it is limited to vehicles handled by Southeast Toyota Distributors,” says Autoblog. Owners of affected trucks can expect the recall to begin this month, and dealers will recalibrate the system free of charge. If you think your truck might be affected, you can call the Southeast Toyota Customer Assistance Center at 1-800-301-6859.

This does not compute! If these are made in Texas and Indiana, how can the recall only affect one part of the country?
