Toyota Recalls 2011 Tundra to Inspect Drive Shaft

If you own a 2011 Toyota Tundra, you may be heading in for service sooner than you think. Last week, Toyota recalled select RAV4 and Highlander models for faulty airbag sensors. Now the automaker is concerned that the rear drive shaft in 51,000 Tundras could fail.
No accidents or injuries have been reported, but Toyota is aware of one instance of driveshaft failure. “The rear drive shaft in an estimated 0.05 percent of the vehicles may include a component (slip yoke) that could break due to improper casting during the foundry process,” says Toyota in a press release.
Toyota will begin notifying Tundra owners by mail in May. “Toyota dealers will inspect the rear drive shaft for a specific production-lot number to determine whether a replacement shaft is needed,” reports Autoweek. “This process will take about 10 minutes.
