Honda’s 2011 CR-Z hybrid will go on sale this summer, offering a smaller, but sportier package than the Insight hybrid that has been on the market for nearly a year, the Detroit Free Press reported.
A two-seater, powered by a 1.5-liter i-VTEC engine working in tandem with a 10-kilowatt electric motor, will be available with either a six-speed manual or continuously variable transmission, the paper said. The CR-Z will be assembled in Japan, the Free Press noted.
The vehicle manual has EPA-estimated fuel economy of 31 mpg in city driving and 37 on the highway, the paper said. The CVT will get 36 mpg in the city and 38 on the highway, the Free Press said. That’s somewhat less than the fuel economy of the four-door Insight, which averages in the low-to-mid 40 mpg, the story said. (Detroit Free Press)
