They know where your car is
December 14th, 2009
A nationwide system which allows private companies to discover the location of any car by its license plate came on-line in May 2009, according to an Automotive News article by Rick Kranz. The system, called MVTRAC, is run by International Intelligence Agency, and is similar to one designed for law enforcement officials. Marketed mainly to repossessors, it uses a mix of 8,000 security, airport, tollbooth, stop sign, and traffic cameras, along with 100 mobile units that scan license plates on streets and in parking lots; scanning speed is up to one plate per second. All are added to the database, which has been used to trace down hundreds of vehicles since the repossession system was started.
