Toyota Motor Corp., hoping to rebound from its worst U.S. slump, plans to create more “passion” for a brand known for reliability with a new sports car and models appealing to young drivers, its U.S. sales chief said, Bloomberg reported.
Company President Akio Toyoda said today at an industry conference in Traverse City, Mich., that Toyota is developing an “affordable” sports car, the story said. That model will be produced within two years with affiliate Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd.’s Subaru, said Jim Lentz, the sales executive, the news service said.
Toyota will remain a brand U.S. consumers associate with quality and value, Lentz told reporters in Traverse City. Aided by the sports car, it also will be known for “passion, styling, electronics; it’s also going to be fun to drive,” he said. (Bloomberg)
