Toyota Motor Corp. will invest $147 million to expand the capacity of its Huntsville, Ala., plant to produce four-cylinder engines, The Detroit News reported.
Toyota said Friday that it will hire at least 240 new employees, bringing the plant total to more than 1,000, the News said. Starting in 2011, the Alabama factory will have the capacity to produce 577,000 four- and six-cylinder engines, the paper said.
Toyota will invest another $25 million in two U.S. casting plants and hire as many as 60 people to increase North American output of cylinder heads and blocks, the publication said. The automaker will fit Toyota Camry cars and Rav4 SUVs with four-cylinder engines built in Alabama, the story said. (The Detroit News)
