Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A. plans to carry its fourth-quarter marketing blitz into 2010, the Automotive News reported.
The company spent a record $1 billion during the quarter to push its Toyota, Scion and Lexus products, including advertising and incentives, the trade publication said. Toyota Division’s U.S. sales rose 36 percent in December, the paper said. Though sales were down 19 percent for the year, the division’s share increased to 14.3 percent from 13.9 percent in 2008, the Automotive News said.
Toyota also remained the top-selling brand for the year and, for the first time, was No. 1 in retail sales, topping General Motors, the paper said. Company officials expect industry sales of about 11.5 million units this year, up from the 10.4 million in 2009, the story said. (Automotive News)
