Commerce Secretary: U.S. won’t help GM sell cars

Don’t look for the federal government to advertise or promote vehicles made by a reconstituted General Motors Corp., or tell the company how to run its business, U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gary Locke said Wednesday, the Detroit Free Press reported.
“President Obama and the administration have no intention of being involved in the day-to-day operations of GM, even though we’re a major shareholder now. We need to leave that to the experts,” Locke said during a visit to an automotive supplier, where he spoke to employees and Michigan auto supplier executives. “If the federal government gets involved in the day-to-day management, including promotion and advertisement of these great products, where does it stop?”
Locke announced $27 million in federal grants to help Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Wisconsin, Illinois and Minnesota spur business growth as the auto industry struggles, the paper said. (Detroit Free Press)
