General Motors Corp. will stop making the Pontiac Vibe for the U.S. market at the end of August, the Automotive News reported.
But GM may continue to produce the compact hatchback for the Canadian market for a short time beyond August, said Jim Hopson, a Pontiac told the paper. It is being phased out. We are not going to keep Pontiac in Canada., he said in a telephone interview. It is just that the timing may be slightly different than the United States.
The Vibe is produced at the New United Motor Manufacturing Incorporated (NUMMI) plant operated jointly by GM and Toyota in Fremont, Calif., the paper said. No replacement for Vibe production has been determined, but GM said it continues to have discussions with Toyota about possible future production at NUMMI, the story said. (Automotive News)
