Lightbulb Bluetooth For Your Car: 3 Great Options

Bluetooth For Your Car: 3 Great Options

So you have a car that either didn't come with a Bluetooth hands-free phone setup, or maybe it was built before Bluetooth was even around? Don't worry--it's easy and inexpensive to add the system to nearly any car.

Some models of Bluetooth receivers offer their own speakers; others use the car's speakers. Some even allow you to stream music in addition to placing calls. A few will even allow you to dial contacts with voice recognition.

But which one should you buy?

There are literally hundreds of possible options, and while all of them will work to one degree or another, we've selected three that have performed well in consumer reviews and are priced very reasonably.

First up, one of the simplest: the Jabra TOUR Bluetooth In-Car Speakerphone.

As the name suggests, the Jabra TOUR unit has its own speaker, and it connects directly with Android or iPhone to relay your calls while keeping your hands free. It's capable of Voice Control, using the built-in Android or Siri (Apple) voice capabilities. A built-in motion sensor turns the device off and back on again automatically, helping to conserve battery when parked.

Users of the Jabra TOUR have noted good sound quality and easy operation among its strengths.

Next, the Kinivo BTC450 Bluetooth Hands-Free Car Kit.

The Kinivo BTC450 uses an auxiliary input jack to interface with your existing car stereo, using its own microphone to pick up your end of the conversation. This can be a great option, as your car's stereo will have better audio quality and greater volume than a compact built-speaker, but it will only work if your car has an auxiliary input jack. Unlike the Jabra TOUR, the Kinivo can stream music to your car stereo as well, using the A2DP protocol (compatible with Android and iPhone). Consumers have found the Kinivo to offer very good sound quality in both phone and music uses.

And finally, the SuperTooth Buddy Bluetooth Visor Speakerphone.

This compact unit, like the Jabra TOUR, is self-contained, but it is less expensive. The SuperTooth Buddy offers a powerful speaker with DSP noise reduction, helping to improve call quality. SuperTooth claims the device offers up to 20 hours talk time and 40 days of stand-by from its battery. The Buddy is capable of voice recognition (with a supported phone), call waiting, and more. Consumers note ease of use and clear call quality among the SuperTooth Buddy's strengths.
