Sirius XM Dock For iPhone Due Oct. 18

Sirius XM Dock For iPhone Due Oct. 18

September 8, 2009

New York - The Sirius XM satellite-radio dock for the iPhone has been given a firm release date of Oct. 18, according to industry sources.

In addition, stores are expected to begin pre-selling the device in early October, according to one source.

The $119 XM SkyDock was unveiled by Sirius XM in August with a fall release date. The dock converts an iPhone to a true satellite-radio receiver because it includes an XM chip that can receive full XM as well as Sirius programming, including Howard Stern via a "Best of Sirius" subscription. (Without the dock, users cannot receive Stern via an iPhone app).

The XM SkyDock also connects an iPhone or iPod Touch to the car's sound system so a user's stored music can also play through the car radio.

The SkyDock is expected to be sold online and through retailers, including Best Buy and RadioShack, this fall.

Latest Sirius XM Satellite Comes Online

Sirius XM on Wednesday announced that its new SIRIUS FM-5 satellite has been placed into service, increasing the DARS provider's broadcast power and improving reception for its exiting subscribers.

"For our Sirius subscribers, FM-5 brings significantly improved performance to their cars as well as their homes and offices," said Terry Smith, Sirius XM's chief engineering officer. "We expect FM-5 to provide exceptional service for many years to come, while improving the overall performance, reliability and longevity of our satellite fleet."

The satellite, which was built by Space Systems/Loral, was launched from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan on June 30 and has been placed at 96 degrees West over Texas. It is currently broadcasting Sirius XM programming to North America.

SkyDock – The Best Satellite Radio Made Yet

SkyDock – The Best Satellite Radio Made Yet

October 20, 2009

If you have had satellite radio for a long time, you have likely seen your fair share of the various hardware options that were made available by Sirius and XM. Now that satellite radio is all under one umbrella, the best satellite radio to date has finally been developed. The XM SkyDock.

Out of the box it may not seem like much, but combine SkyDock with an iPhone or iPod Touch and you really have something special. Simply stated, SkyDock blows away any other satellite radio ever made.

What makes SkyDock special? Let’s start with installation. It could not be more simple. SkyDock features PowerConnect. A technology that mounts and runs this device right from your cars cigarette lighter socket. PowerConnect does away with the traditional FM modulator and running power cords. You can simply plug in the SkyDock, attach the antenna, and you are jamming to the tunes that only Sirius XM can deliver.

Skydock delivers satellite radio through a user interface in the form of an app that can be downloaded from iTunes. Once you have the SkyDock app downloaded, get ready for a user interface that is unmatched by any other satellite radio out there. You can scroll through channels with the flick of a finger, and the tuning is virtually instantaneous. Simple and logical menus guide you through the robust offering of music, sports and talk content, and you can tag songs you like for future download on iTunes.

SkyDock carries advanced features such as sports tickers, notifications when your favorite teams are playing, artist select, and even has a section where you can access your favorite channel listings. The best part is that the actual satellite radio is in the SkyDock, not in your iPhone. This means that getting a “new” radio is as simple as an update to the application. You no longer have to fear that your radio will be outdated, because the functionality is in your existing iPhone or iPod Touch. When Sirius XM update the app or add features, you are a few clicks away from having the latest and greatest offerings.

If SkyDock is your first satellite radio, I envy you. You have a wonderful product that combines ease installation, ease of use, and the best audio content on the market all in one place……PLUS, you can make a phone call, check your email, and have full access to your contact list! SkyDock is not only the ultimate satellite radio, but perhaps one of the coolest iPhone accessories to hit the market yet. Stay tuned for a full review.

Rosie Radio will air Monday through Friday from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm ET/7:00 - 9:00 am PT on SIRIUS XM Stars, SIRIUS channel 102 and XM channel 155. Rosie Radio will replay from 8:00 - 10:00 pm ET/5:00 - 7:00 pm PT, with a "Best of the Week" airing at various times on the weekend.

Like Rosie herself, Rosie Radio will be compelling, intriguing, unpredictable, and thought-provoking. The show will feature Rosie's trademark wit, wisdom and straightforward take and outlook on life. Broadcasting from a custom-built home studio near her kids and her crafts, Rosie will invite SIRIUS XM listeners from across the country to pull up a chair next to her to hear what's on her mind, and to tell her what's on theirs.

For two hours daily Rosie will have a forum to explore any topic, issue, or event on her mind. Topics and guests will be driven by Rosie's numerous passions, interests, and hobbies. The live, call-in format of Rosie Radio will offer her millions of fans the chance to connect and interact with her on an extraordinary level. The phone lines will be open every day for Rosie and her listeners to talk about anything and everything: raising kids, losing weight, watching TV, finding inspirational people, hearing Rosie's amazing stories and opinions, and discovering Rosie's most inspirational people. She's equally fascinated by stay-at-home moms and stars of Broadway and wants them all to participate in the conversation.

"Rosie is a singular, powerful voice with extraordinary appeal, and we are thrilled to be able to connect her with our subscribers every day on Rosie Radio," said Scott Greenstein, President and Chief Content Officer, SIRIUS XM Radio. "Rosie is the perfect fit for the unbound creativity and possibilities of satellite radio."

"This is an exciting new adventure - two hours of talk show entertainment, without having to wear makeup. Perfection," said Rosie O'Donnell. "I can't wait to jumpstart each day with millions of SIRIUS XM listeners across the country."

Rosie will be joined on the show regularly by some of her closest friends.

Rosie Radio regulars include lifelong friend Jeanne Kopetic, who will stop by Tuesdays to hang out and reminisce about growing up in the '80s, high school life, and the music they love. Janette Barber, Rosie's longtime friend, producer and fellow comedienne, will be by her side as the show's executive producer. Rosie's friend and makeup artist Helene Macaulay will also join the fun, appearing regularly on Fridays. Rosie, Helene and Janette are known for their "Jahero" (JAnette, HElene, and ROsie) series, previously done in the past as web video blogs and a favorite of visitors to rosie.com. "Jahero" will now be a regular Friday feature on Rosie Radio during which listeners can ask Rosie, Janette and Helene any questions they like. Rosie's former assistant and Taboo costume designer Bobby Pearce will also be a regular, chiming in about everything from weight loss to Broadway.

Rosie Radio joins an expanding lineup of women's programming on SIRIUS XM that includes Oprah Radio, Martha Stewart Living Radio, and Cosmo Radio. Sirius/XM goes all out for Halloween

On the Radio: Sirius/XM goes all out for Halloween with dedicated holiday music channel

* Voice of the People for Oct. 30, 2009

* Where to take kids trick or treating: Safe NYC hoods with lots of candy

* Scream gems for Halloween: Old school horror flicks around town

* Quirky Kensington: Hidden treasures dominate this Brooklyn 'hood
*

Halloween has never been one of radio's big holidays, but don't tell that to Sirius/XM.

Satellite radio already has a dedicated Halloween channel (Sirius 126, XM 120) running through Sunday at 6 a.m. and featuring a haunting soundtrack (think creaking doors) along with spooky tales and music from hosts and listeners.

Dozens of other channels will also feature Halloween material.

Doctor Radio (Sirius 114, XM 119) will talk about things like makeup removal and healthy Halloween treats. Now there's an oxymoron. Martha Stewart (Sirius 112, XM 157) will talk costumes, decor, pumpkins and parties.

OutQ (Sirius 109, XM 98) plans a "Shocktail Party." "Deep Tracks" (Sirius 16, XM 40) plays Bob Dylan's Halloween "Theme Time Radio Hour" Sunday at 8 a.m.

Magic Matt Alan salutes "Magic Day" and plays Halloween music, noon to midnight tomorrow on "70s on 7" (Sirius and XM 7).

Elvis gets in on it, too, as will Cousin Bruce Morrow and even Metropolitan Opera Radio (Sirius 78, XM 79), which presents "Macbeth" at midnight tonight.

On terrestrial radio, WFUV (90.7 FM) salutes some of Halloween's roots tomorrow, 9-11:50 a.m., when "A Thousand Welcomes" plays scary music, while noting that in the Celtic world, Halloween is New Year's Eve.

Also on WFUV, Pete Fornatale salutes Halloween music tomorrow, 4-8 p.m.

"Shut Up, Weirdo," today at 6-7 p.m. on WFMU (91.1 FM), has Andy and Frangry inviting listeners to suggest Halloween costumes, like Balloon Dad or Sexy Einstein. Best idea wins a prize.

Two Jersey stations are sponsoring Halloween shows. WSOU (89.5 FM) is hosting Halloweekend at the Starland Ballroom tonight and tomorrow night, and WDHA (105.5 FM) hosts a Monster Ball tonight at 9 at Miami Mike's on Route 10 in Hanover.

For those who want something a little exotic, National Public Radio is offering a Web-only on-demand music special called "Ghost in the Machine," with music from Bach to Lightnin' Hopkins. Go to NPR : National Public Radio : News & Analysis, World, US, Music & Arts : NPR.

PULSE PARTY: Tony Santiago and the New York Dance Music Coalition are throwing a party tomorrow for Pulse-87 (WNYZ, 87.7 FM) - whether the station continues to exist or not.

The fate of the dance station remained in limbo yesterday, amid fears that financial problems could force it to shut down today. There has been nothing official.

"If Pulse lives, the party will be a celebration," says Santiago. "If not, it will be a thank you."

The party is at 10 p.m. at Club Exit, 147 Greenpoint Ave. in Brooklyn.

Sirius XM Radio introduces CPOV trail offer

Sirius XM Radio introduces CPOV trail offer

Posted Friday, Oct 30, 2009, 2:21 pm in Employee News

Sirius XM Radio and Chrysler Group LLC today announced that U.S. customers buying Chrysler, Jeep® and Dodge vehicles will receive an introductory three-month trial subscription of the “Sirius Everything” package upon the purchase of all Sirius-equipped certified pre-owned vehicles (CPOV).

The “Sirius Everything” package delivers more than 130 channels of premier sports, news, talk, entertainment and 100 percent commercial-free music programming plus traffic and weather information.

“The Chrysler Group is pleased to offer customers the added benefit of a three-month trial subscription to ‘Sirius Everything’ when they purchase an eligible Certified Pre-owned Vehicle,” Steven Beahm, Vice President Sales Operations, said. “With more than 800 Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge dealerships located across the United States selling certified pre-owned vehicles, customers will have both the peace of mind they get knowing the vehicle has gone through our rigorous certification process and comes with a factory-backed warranty, as well as the ability to enjoy a three-month trial of Sirius.”

Steve Cook, group vice president and general manager, automotive division, Sirius XM Radio, said: The roll out of the three-month introductory offer of the ‘Sirius Everything’ package reaffirms our long-standing commitment to provide Chrysler Group customers with the best audio entertainment on the road. We are thrilled to offer our critically acclaimed sports, news, talk and 100 percent commercial-free music programming to drivers of certified pre-owned Chrysler Group vehicles.”

The company will continue to offer Sirius as a factory-installed feature on most new Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge vehicles sold in the United States, each with a one-year subscription of Sirius included.

The Chrysler Group’s launch of a trial offer of Sirius in its eligible certified pre-owned vehicles is a natural outgrowth of its widespread adoption of factory-installed satellite radios in new Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge vehicles. The special Chrysler Group CPOV program also demonstrates the value the Chrysler Group places on providing satellite radio to its customers and its continuing commitment to its relationship with Sirius XM.

Those with Internet access can visit SIRIUS Satellite Radio - Everything worth listening to is now on SIRIUS for more information about Sirius.

Sirius Canada subs well up

Sirius Canada subs well up

Tuesday, 12 January 2010

Sirius Canada, the private company that looks after Sirius Satellite Radio sales and subscriptions in Canada, says it has added more than 250,000 subscribers in the past 18 months.

Sirius Canada now tops 1m local subs, says the company. Sirius and XM, owing to local regulations still operate as separate businesses in Canada.

"Exceeding one million subscribers is our most significant milestone to-date and we're proud to be the fastest growing audio entertainment company in Canada," said Mark Redmond, president and CEO, Sirius Canada.

XM's most recent Canadian numbers put them at 515,000 back in August last year.

Sirius is Popular!

Sirius Sees Double

Sirius Sees Double (SIRI)

January 14, 2010

Sirius XM Radio (Nasdaq: SIRI) announced the results of a favorable Arbitron study of satellite-radio subscribers this morning, and the results suggest that the platform may be more popular than you think.

The study found that 35 million adult listeners tune in to Sirius or XM, with 32 million of them checking in at least weekly. This figure is nearly double the service's 18.5 million subscribers.

The news shouldn't be surprising, though. No one assumed that Sirius XM's user base consisted of 18.5 million lone drivers. Folks carpool, couples date, and home-based receivers aren't necessarily shackled to headphones. Just as entire households benefit from a single cable subscription, the same logic follows for satellite radio.

Satellite radio's dissemination is a mixed blessing for Sirius XM. If 18.5 million subscriptions are enough to reach 35 million listeners, maybe the ceiling is closer than Sirius XM bulls think.

I prefer to take a more optimistic view. If 18.5 million subscribers are reaching the eardrums of 16.5 million non-subscribers -- 13.5 million on at least a weekly basis -- it will be a motivating factor for the non-subscribers to come aboard when they have a chance to sign up. There is no more learning curve. They have experienced -- and ideally value -- the product.

If anything, terrestrial radio has to be hating this study. I have long argued that satellite radio removes the most rabid AM/FM listeners, especially those with the disposable income to pay for premium subscriptions. It has to influence advertisers, too, who are now down to marketing to terrestrial freeloaders. Arbitron's study bears that out, in claiming that 24% of its listeners have household incomes of at least $150,000. That figure compares with just 9% of AM/FM listeners who fall within that group.

None of this news means that Sirius and XM subscribers have completely sworn off rival platforms. The Arbitron study provides an interesting breakdown of how Sirius XM subscribers consume their audio.

* Sirius XM -- 62%
* AM/FM -- 16%
* Online streaming -- 4%
* Mobile devices -- 10%

In other words, subscribing to Sirius XM doesn't mean an end to hearing local sports talk radio, firing up Pandora, or listening to podcasts or iTunes music collections on Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) iPhones.

I'm not sure whether the "mobile devices" category includes portable media players like the iPod, Microsoft's (Nasdaq: MSFT) Zune, or SanDisk's (Nasdaq: SNDK) Sansa, but the breakdown indicates that even Sirius XM subscribers are spending more than a third of their time consuming audio through other sources.

In the end, it's easy to see why Sirius XM is issuing a press release touting the study's findings. Speculators on the bullish and bearish sides may volley arguments back and forth about the stock's valuation, but it's clear that satellite radio is a popular audio platform.

Who Says Satellite Radio Is Dying?

Who Says Satellite Radio Is Dying?

Sirius XM Adds 257,000 4th Quarter Subscribers

(UPDATED) A poor economy and competition from free internet radio did not stop Sirius XM Radio from adding 257,000 net subscribers in the 4th quarter of 2009. The service. ended 2009 with 18.8 million radio subscribers. The company also reported that it had $100 million in free cash flow last year after negative free cash flow of $552 million in 2008.

"Improvements in automotive sales, conversion rates and better than anticipated self-pay churn suggest that the outlook for the auto sector and the effects of the economy on our business are beginning to improve," said CEO Mel Karmazin. The conversion rate to paid subscriptions from trials included in car sales was 46.4% up from 44.2% in 4Q 2008.
