Dodge Challenger Drag Pak

Focused on Performance: New Mopar Dodge Challenger Drag Pak Revealed

New Mopar Dodge Challenger Drag Pak marks the first time Mopar will offer racers a supercharged engine option
Sportsman racers will have the choice of a 354-cubic-inch supercharged HEMI® engine or a naturally aspirated 426-cubic-inch HEMI
Orders open in late July, with information on the new Mopar Dodge Challenger Drag Pak available at Drag Pak Domination for Dodge Challenger from MOPAR | Mopar

June 26, 2015 , Auburn Hills, Mich. -

Remaining true to its performance roots, the Mopar brand unveiled the next-generation Mopar Dodge Challenger Drag Pak, a factory-prepped package car specifically geared for drag racing. The vehicle, revealed today at the FCA US LLC Chelsea Proving Grounds, is built on the Dodge Challenger platform and will come with the option of either the brand’s first-ever offering of a supercharged 354-cubic-inch Gen III HEMI® engine or a naturally aspirated 426-cubic-inch Gen III HEMI engine.

The new Mopar Dodge Challenger Drag Pak is designed for passionate Sportsman racers who compete in nationally sanctioned drag racing series, such as the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA). The new generation Drag Pak combines the latest in Sportsman racing technology, a host of upgrades and improvements from the previous generation Drag Pak and unique heritage design cues.

“Today, we write the next page in our performance playbook with the reveal of the production Mopar Dodge Challenger Drag Pak, a vehicle that offers, for the first time, a supercharged engine that provides our racers more options,” said Pietro Gorlier, President and CEO — Mopar Brand Service, Parts and Customer Care, FCA. “Our brand is committed to supporting Mopar drivers who compete at all levels. In 2014, we debuted a new Dodge Dart NHRA Pro Stock car that won right out of the gate. In 2015, our new Dodge Charger R/T NHRA Funny Car did the same. Now, Mopar is supercharging our Sportsman racers.”

Under a factory hood is the supercharged 354 HEMI engine, with a cast-iron block, forged steel crankshaft, Mopar spec camshaft and a custom performance engine calibration. The 354 nomenclature pays homage to the heritage of the early Gen 1 HEMI engines, which originally displaced 354 cubic inches.

The naturally aspirated 426 Race HEMI engine is built off of a Mopar aluminum block with pressed-in steel liners and aluminum cylinder heads. Like the supercharged engine, the 426 HEMI also includes a custom engine calibration. The new Drag Pak features a race-prepped automatic transmission, upgraded from the previous generation vehicle, for both the 354 and 426 engine options.

The vehicle’s front suspension sports a unique Mopar K-Member and suspension geometry, with double adjustable compression and rebound struts. At the back of the car is a four-link suspension with Panhard bar, Strange Engineering 4-inch solid axle with 9-inch aluminum third member, 40-spline gun drilled axles, shocks with adjustable compression and rebound and an anti-roll bar. The rear axle mounting has been strengthened from the previous generation Drag Pak to help the car launch faster and harder.

Each engine version carries a unique graphic identification package. The supercharged hot rod displays a Mopar Blue stripe and a “354 Supercharged” graphic insignia, while the naturally aspirated (N/A) Drag Pak sports a horizontal black stripe along its side with a 426 HEMI engine graphic identification.

The new Drag Pak includes the Dodge Challenger front and rear fascia trim and a redesigned full roll cage fabricated to NHRA specifications. The cockpit
reflects the Dodge Challenger interior, but with the addition of a Mopar gauge pack, driver and passenger lightweight racing seats, along with a safety net and a five-point harness.

The Mopar Drag Pak is equipped with 15-inch front and rear lightweight wheels displaying the unique Mopar logo. Mounted on those wheels will be Hoosier drag radials with front tires that measure 28 inches in diameter by 4.5 inches wide, and rear tires that are 30 inches in diameter by 9 inches wide. The car will also feature slotted front and rear brake rotors, with race-specific calipers and master cylinder.

The vehicle also includes a more user-friendly hood, hinged at the rear to make between rounds under hood maintenance an easier task. Another small but essential detail that racers will appreciate is the addition of integrated trailer tie-down loops on the front and rear of the new Drag Pak.

Development of the new Mopar Dodge Challenger Drag Pak has spanned nearly a year. A prototype was first revealed in 2014 at the 60th NHRA U.S. Nationals to elicit feedback from NHRA Sportsman racers on potential upgrades to make the Drag Pak even more competitive at the drag strip.

The resulting new vehicle is the next step in the evolution of Mopar’s modern-day package car, whose earlier incarnations include more than 150 V-8 Challenger Drag Paks, an additional 50 V-10 versions and plenty of 426 Race HEMI upgrade kits.

“We are extremely pleased with the results obtained during our testing,” said Dale Aldo, Mopar Motorsports Marketing Manager. “In the first runs the new Drag Pak ran consistently in the eights (eight-second range) while improving times at the 60-ft. mark and also performing very well in the quarter mile. Once our customers get the car on the track, we feel it’s going to be a clear winner.”

The Mopar Dodge Challenger Drag Pak will be open for ordering through authorized Dodge dealerships, beginning July 23 as the Mopar Mile-High NHRA Nationals kickoff with the Mopar Block Party in downtown Golden, Colorado. The manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) for the naturally aspirated 426 version of the Mopar Challenger Drag Pak is a “cubic inch appropriate” $99,426, with the 354 supercharged race car available for $109,354 MSRP.

For ordering information on the new Mopar Dodge Challenger Drag Pak, visit Drag Pak Domination for Dodge Challenger from MOPAR | Mopar.

Mopar package car heritage

The Mopar Dodge Challenger Drag Pak’s roots were firmly planted in the early 1960s with the factory production of Max Wedge package cars. In 1968, famously coveted 426 HEMI-powered Dodge Dart and Plymouth Barracuda package cars were unleashed on the strip. Those vehicles continue to compete in the Super Stock/Automatic-HEMI (SS/AH) class of NHRA Sportsman racing and the annual fan favorite Mopar HEMI Challenge, held during the NHRA U.S. Nationals at Lucas Oil Raceway in Indianapolis, Indiana, since 2001.

In 2008, Mopar delighted speed lovers by announcing the first drag race, factory-prepped package cars in 40 years – the first V-8 Mopar Dodge Challenger Drag Pak. The return of the Mopar package car was a hit with racers, and the 2009 program saw a first-year sell out of all 100 factory-built vehicles.

Building on that success, the 2010 Mopar Dodge Challenger Drag Pak program offered racers an available 6.4-liter HEMI engine. Then in 2011, Mopar introduced a race-ready V-10 package car, becoming the first original equipment manufacturer (OEM) to offer a 500-plus cubic-inch V-10 drag package car.

Mopar has continued to mark many firsts. The Drag Pak has captured numerous NHRA National title wins and records, and the previous generation Mopar Drag Pak was also the first modern-era package car to win the Stock Eliminator class crown at the U.S. Nationals.

The 426 Drag Pak was also the first naturally aspirated package car to make an eight-second-range quarter-mile pass at a NHRA national event. During the 2014 season, while celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Gen II Race HEMI, the 426 Drag Pak won a majority of the factory stock naturally aspirated class races and has posted national event class wins in recent years.

The newly revealed Mopar Dodge Challenger Drag Pak adds to Mopar’s package car heritage, marking the brand’s first offering to racers of a supercharger. As the most powerful Drag Paks to date, both the new generation 354 Gen III HEMI supercharged engine and the 426 Gen III Race HEMI will take their aim squarely at quarter-mile success as Mopar continues to lead the way in street, track and off-road performance.

August 11, 2015 , Auburn Hills, Mich. - Beyond its rich muscle car legacy, which is highlighted today by the Challenger and Charger SRT Hellcat models – the most powerful muscle cars ever, Dodge continues to produce some of the most recognizable high-impact and heritage hues that have ever hit the blacktop. And for this year’s Woodward Dream Cruise, Dodge will debut the next limited-edition color from its archive: Plum Crazy.

“Powerful muscle cars painted in impactful colors make Woodward Dream Cruise the perfect setting for Dodge to debut the newest generation Challenger and Charger models in Plum Crazy,” said Tim Kuniskis, President and Chief Executive Officer – Dodge Brand and SRT Brand, FCA – North America. “And with our strongest muscle-car arsenal ever, we knew it was time to reach into our Dodge paint code archive and offer our high-performance R/T Scat Pack and SRT Hellcat models in one of the most iconic exterior colors of all time.”

2016 Dodge Challenger Overview

Published on Sep 18, 2015

The Dodge Challenger does one of the best impressions of a vintage muscle car today. A two-door coupe, it’s big and brawny and unabashedly retro.

Sleek, sexy heritage-inspired exterior styling for both form and function
Dodge is reaching back into its rich history and broad range of heritage colors. New again for the 2016 model year, Plum Crazy joins heritage and high-impact exterior colors range from B5 Blue to TorRed.

Seven different stripe options give Challenger drivers the ability to get instant customization straight from the factory.

Inspired by the iconic 1971 Challenger, all 2016 models take on a bold appearance that draws on the 1971 model’s split-grille and split tail-lamp cues, updated with four signature LED headlamp halo surrounds offset by piano black trim. Single projector-beam headlamps at each front corner light the road ahead. High-intensity discharge (HID) headlamps are also available.

In profile, the 2016 Challenger’s signature muscle car proportions and large thruster rear-quarter panels stand out from the crowd, while fender and belt lines tie together at the front and rear of the car to create a sleeker appearance. Twelve wheel designs are available, including a new for 2016 Hyper Black II finish to the lightweight forged-aluminum wheels.

A split tail-lamp design continues the historic 1971 model’s inspiration. For a modern look, the Dodge brand’s signature LED treatment creates a single ribbon of light within each lamp. A redesigned rear valance gives the 2016 Challenger with a widened, more planted appearance, while fascia-mounted exhaust tips provide a high-performance finished look.

Driver-focused interior sculpted with ’71 Challenger cues
Inside the 2016 Dodge Challenger is an enthusiast designed cockpit, featuring world-class materials, execution and technology, also inspired by the interior of the 1971 Challenger.

To highlight the muscle car’s performance abilities, the 2016 Dodge Challenger is designed with a performance cockpit that embodies the trapezoidal-themed exterior in an artistic and more organically styled way.

Dodge Challenger’s cleanly executed instrument panel features an aluminum-stamped driver’s bezel, which establishes the driver’s cockpit. For a high-tech look, an innovative 7-inch TFT instrument cluster screen extends through the driver’s bezel and provides a customizable display. The gauge cluster features an analog speedometer and tachometer that straddle the TFT customizable instrument cluster and provide a heritage-inspired “tic-toc-tach” look with throwback radial numbering and concave shape. Additionally, the center stack neatly houses the 5-inch and available 8.4-inch Uconnect touchscreens.

A trapezoidal shaped aluminum-stamped high-sill center console provides Dodge Challenger’s interior with a fresh, asymmetric look, while the leather-wrapped surface and French-seamed accent stitching exudes craftsmanship and style. With its unique elevated design, the center console houses additional controls for the Uconnect touchscreen above with ergonomically located redundant button and knob controls for audio and climate functions. A media hub with an SD card slot, USB outlet and auxiliary audio input is neatly housed inside the center console’s armrest.

Three available steering wheels are each designed specifically for the performance driver.

The standard Dodge steering wheel features a sculpted rim so the driver’s hands have a sure grip at the 2- and 10-o’clock positions, while available paddle shifters (with automatic transmission) are located on the backs of the upper spokes.

The SRT-branded, tilt-telescoping, heated steering wheel features a flat bottom for control through the tight handling corners. Available paddle shifters (with automatic transmission) are located on the back of the upper spokes. The buttons to control the full-color Driver Information Display (DID) cluster are large and illuminated. Buttons for Uconnect and phone access now reside along the bottom edge of the horizontal spokes.

Seating options in the new 2016 Dodge Challenger include premium cloth, Ballistic Cloth, Nappa leather and Nappa leather with Alcantara Suede. Challenger offers performance seats with large side bolsters for maximum lateral support in hard cornering. For improved comfort and convenience, heated and ventilated front seats in Nappa leather are available. In addition, Dodge Challenger offers 14 different interior color and trim selections inspired by the muscle car’s roots. They include a wide variety of colors and materials, from throwback Houndstooth cloth to Ruby Red and Black, Tungsten and Black, and Pearl and Black premium leather sport and performance seats with accent stitching.

All-new Blacktop Appearance Group for 2016 Challenger models
Back by popular demand and continuing the Dodge brand’s popular “blacked out” appearance offering is the new Challenger Blacktop Package – now available for 2016 on Dodge Challenger SXT and SXT Plus models with 305 horsepower, or up to 375 horsepower with the HEMI V-8 powered Challenger R/T and R/T Plus models.

For a sinister look, Dodge Challenger Blacktop starts with large, 20-in. five-spoke Gloss Black aluminum wheels wrapped with all-season tires. Continuing the theme is the 1971-inspired split-grille in Gloss Black, while Satin Black finishes on the deck-lid spoiler and fuel-filler door provide an aggressive look. And, to make sure the Challenger Blacktop has a one-of-a-kind appearance, a new “strobe” designed dual stripe runs from nose-to-tail and harks back to “Mopar-or-no-car” nostalgia.

Inside, the Blacktop Package amplifies the sinister exterior styling through discrete and subtle dark finishes and appointments on Dodge Challenger SXT and R/T models. Inside, passengers will find a premium black cloth interior on Challenger SXT and R/T models and standard Nappa and perforated Nappa leather in black on SXT Plus and R/T Plus models. Also included is the Dodge performance-contoured steering wheel with Dark Anodized finished paddle shifters. Painted accents feature new for 2016 K-Black bezels to accentuate the Dark Brushed II aluminum instrument panel and aluminum center console bezels. For added sinister detail, the 1971-inspired ‘tic-toc-tach” gauges feature Gloss Black inner and outer cluster rings. The Blacktop comes complete with premium velour-bound floor mats with the Dodge logo embroidered in Tungsten.

Additional technology features on 2016 Dodge Challenger SXT and R/T models with the Blacktop Package include ParkView rear backup camera and fog lamps on Challenger SXT.

Hellcat continues to prowl
The Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat returns in 2016 as the quickest, fastest and most powerful muscle car ever. Propelled by the supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI V-8, its 707 horsepower rating is highest of any V-8 engine in FCA US celebrated history. The supercharged HEMI engine can be mated with the six-speed manual transmission or the beefy TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic.

This HEMI® Hellcat engine is Dodge and SRT’s first application of V-8 supercharger technology, delivering the full brand experience with fresh potency.

This breakthrough supercharged engine features a forged-steel crankshaft with induction-hardened bearing surfaces. The result is a crank so well-engineered it can withstand firing pressures of 110 bar (1,595 psi) – the equivalent of five family sedans standing on each piston, every two revolutions. And its unique, specially tuned crank damper has been tested to 13,000 rpm.

High-strength, forged-alloy pistons – developed using advanced telemetry measurement – are coupled to powder-forged connecting rods with high-load-capacity bushings and diamond-like-carbon-coated piston pins.

Also returning in 2016 is the Dodge Challenger SRT 392 model with its 392 cubic inch HEMI V-8. Power output remains at a potent 485 horsepower and 475 lb.-ft. of torque.

The SRT 392 model also can be mated with the TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic or the proven six-speed manual transmission.

For even more control, steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters are included. The result: quicker shifts, an engaging driving experience and even quicker 0-60 mph runs in the mid-5-second range.

Dodge Challenger SXT and SXT Plus models feature the award-winning 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine, which delivers 305 horsepower at 6,350 rpm and a responsive 268 lb.-ft. of torque at 4,800 rpm.

Paired with the standard eight-speed transmission, the Pentastar V-6 offers up to an EPA estimated 30 mpg on the highway.

The 2016 Dodge Challenger’s segment-first TorqueFlite 8HP70 eight-speed automatic transmission delivers world-class precision and fuel efficiency, along with a new electronic shifter, Sport mode and paddle-shifting capabilities for more performance, as well as an improvement in fuel economy. Once limited to sedans costing twice as much, the Dodge Challenger democratizes this exclusive world-class technology, offering the TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic transmission standard on every V-6 model.

Enthusiast-desired rear-wheel-drive architecture with advanced technological solutions
As the Dodge brand’s performance coupe, the chassis of the Dodge Challenger is designed, engineered and fine-tuned to deliver world-class performance and efficiencies, thanks to its advanced technological solutions:

Electric power steering (EPS)
EPS provides three driver-selectable steering modes: Normal, Comfort and Sport. Tuning allows for more responsive steering for spirited driving while maintaining ease in low-speed situations and when parking
Lightweight axles
Cast-aluminum axle housing reduces weight, helping hold overall curb weight increase to a minimum, despite considerable equipment additions
Sport mode
Sport mode provides blistering-quick gear changes with the eight-speed TorqueFlite automatic transmission, reducing shift times by 37 percent (250 milliseconds vs. 400 milliseconds), while engaging a more aggressive transmission calibration. When Auto Stick is engaged with Sport mode, the driver can select and hold the desired gear without unexpected shifts, including at the redline
Sport mode also engages a more aggressive throttle map and steering feel
Standard on both 2016 Challenger SRT models is the largest front-brake package ever offered in a FCA US vehicle, which was first introduced on the 2015 Challenger SRT Hellcat, featuring all-new 390-mm (15.4-inch) Brembo two-piece rotors with six-piston calipers for outstanding heat management and thermal capacity and longevity

Technology features include the latest Uconnect system
From its updated award-winning Uconnect Access interface, to the availability of Uconnect Access Services with roadside assistance, Keyless Enter ‘n Go, theft-alarm notification, voice texting and the ability to turn the Challenger into a Wi-Fi Hotspot to the Dodge Performance Pages, 3-D navigation and a mobile app that allows drivers to open or lock their car from a distance, Dodge Challenger delivers a slew of high-tech features for the ultimate driving experience.

The Challenger’s acclaimed Uconnect Access system leverages advanced embedded cellular technology, which enables direct, one-touch connections with emergency service providers, roadside assistance dispatchers and vehicle information specialists.

New for 2016, Uconnect is introducing new features that include the all-new Drag and Drop menu bar, Siri Eyes Free and Do Not Disturb features that can be viewed via the 8.4-inch touchscreen.

Drag and Drop Menu Bar: Dodge Challenger owners now have the ability to personalize their dashboard to fit their lifestyle and have one-button access to the features and services they value most. From Travel Link, to climate control and Yelp, drivers now can simply drag their favorite feature or service icon from the apps menu and move them to their Uconnect system’s main menu bar.
Siri Eyes Free: Via the voice button on the steering wheel and compatible with an Apple iPhone 4s or later, with Siri Eyes Free drivers can speak natural language voice commands to send text messages, play music, set reminders, place phone calls and access turn-by-turn directions. Drivers simply push and hold the voice recognition button on the steering wheel until the Siri screen appears on the 8.4-inch touchscreen and hear the audible tones.
Do Not Disturb: Challenger owners who prefer not be interrupted with phone calls or text messages while driving can choose to turn on the new “Do Not Disturb” and “Reply with Text Message” feature. Located within the Uconnect system’s phone screen, once enabled with a push of button or via voice command, the Do Not Disturb icon will route all incoming mobile calls to voicemail and suppress text messages. If the Challenger owner chooses to enable the Do Not Disturb feature, they also have the ability to send a default or customized response once a call or text message is received.
Vehicle User Guide: Debuting in the 2016 Dodge Challenger, the Vehicle User Guide allows drivers to view their owner’s manual via the 8.4 touchscreen and use as a quick reference guide for vehicle information. The Uconnect and Powertrain portions of the application are dynamic and will only present VIN and vehicle specific information. The content also can be updated over-the-air so the owner information will remain current.

Challenger’s Uconnect Via Mobile lets customers enjoy their personal Internet radio accounts and stream audio content using their own mobile device data plans. It seamlessly brings four popular Internet radio apps into the Dodge Challenger. They are: Aha by Harman, iHeartRadio, Pandora and Slacker. Like all Uconnect-brand features, it is designed to be easy to learn and easy to use.

The Dodge Challenger’s available navigation system accommodates one-step voice-controlled destination entry and enhanced 3-D navigation map graphics, making it simple for drivers to recognize where they are and where they need to go.

Through the Dodge Performance Pages available on the segment’s largest 8.4-inch Uconnect touch screen, Challenger drivers can reduce shift times from approximately 400 milliseconds to 250 milliseconds, increase engine and throttle responsiveness, adjust electronic stability control (ESC) settings and firm up the steering feel. Additionally, the system includes active launch control, launch control RPM settings, performance timers and performance gauges, such as G-force indicators and engine performance.

70-plus available safety and security features
The 2016 Dodge Challenger offers many accident-avoidance assistance features, including Blind-spot Monitoring, Rear Cross Path Detection and adaptive cruise control, to name just a few. Blind-spot Monitoring provides an alert if a vehicle is in an adjacent lane and audibly chimes to warn the driver. Forward Collision Warning alerts when the driver fails to react to an impending forward obstacle. The Challenger’s adaptive cruise control matches traffic speed, accelerating to highway speed providing additional assistance whether on long highway drives or in heavy traffic. Rain-sensing wipers and automatic high-beam control aid the driver by assisting with common functions during inclement weather conditions. In addition, Challenger offers 9-1-1 call/Assist Call, which connects occupants – at the push of a button – directly with emergency-service providers via built-in cellular connection – exclusive to FCA US Uconnect Access service.

Cool Review: 2016 DODGE CHALLENGER LINEUP

Review: 2016 DODGE CHALLENGER LINEUP

February 15, 2016

Who was it who said that muscle cars have faded from memory? Not Dodge for sure, because right now, the automaker offers a range of Challengers that by far exceeds anything the company achieved in the 1950s and 1960s. Buyers have a great choice when it comes to Challengers with a very wide range of power levels available and prices beginning at a modest $28,995 MSRP.

The first Dodge “pony car” was produced from 1969 to 1974, though there had been a “Silver Challenger” during1958 and 1959 and a splendid piece of fifties kitsch it was. There was a generation of Challengers from 1978 to 1983 which were offshoots of Mitsubishi Galants, but these are best forgotten. The current generation appeared early in 2008 and was an immediate sensation. The Dodge stylists had cleverly captured the looks and ambiance of the “pony car” Challenger beautifully and although there are some excellent rivals from rival muscle car automakers, many think the Challenger still reigns supreme.

Quote:
For 2015, Dodge brought us the widest selection of Challengers yet – no less than five separate variants, each with specific trim levels and characteristics. Even the least expensive SXT is an impressive vehicle with a 305-horsepower engine and an estimated 7.8-litres/100 km on the highway, making it an excellent performance choice for the fuel-thrifty. The TorqueFlite 8-speed automatic helps fuel efficiency and is a seamless and capable transmission too. Standard kit includes a rear view camera and there’s an available touch-screen display, the best in the industry in my view. Of course, the car looks just as striking as the most expensive Challenger and is available in some interesting colours.

Move up to an SXT Plus at $32,995 and you get a similar spec with a roster of added goodies, including ventilated leather faced seating and the Uconnect touch-screen. The Challenger R/T hikes the horses to 375 and includes all the features of SXT and SXT Plus and several more, plus a nice fifties touch on one version – a “shaker” hood with a functional air scoop. Next in the line is the Challenger R/T Scat Pack and 392 Hemi Scat Pack Shaker which starts at $45,995 MSRP. This one includes such performance features as Brembo brakes and 20-inch forged alloy wheels. You can also tailor the drive modes with an adaptive suspension system. Incidentally, this variant boasts fully 485-horsepower and will top 100 km/h in the 4-second range.

As if all this power and performance wasn’t enough, Dodge launched the remarkable Challenger SRT Hellcat with an all-new 6.2-litre supercharged engine last year and claims it’s not just the most powerful Challenger ever, but the most powerful muscle car by any automaker. It produces a staggering 707-horsepower and a massive 650 lb-ft of torque to run quarter mile times in the 10.8-second range. This is an astonishingly fast and potent automobile and would probably take on any of the Italian exotics on a dragstrip and shut them down. It will cost you $63,995, but try and match that level of performance with anything twice the price?

Of course, all Challengers have very high levels of safety equipment and a variety of stability control and braking electronics. They are all fast and sleek, but at the same time, probably some of the safest sports coupes on the market. And if appearances matter just as much as anything else, Dodge will sell you one of these in Sublime Green, Redline Red Tri-Coat, Pitch Black Clear Coat and many other intriguing shades.

IN SUMMARY…

BODY STYLE: Two-door sports coupe

ENGINE: Wide range from 306-horsepower to 707-horsepower

TRANSMISSION: 8-speed automatic

PERFORMANCE: Zero to 100 km/h in under 4-secs with the Hellcat

PRICE: MSRPs range from $28,995 to $63,995

Smile Dodge Challenger Earns 2016 TrueCar Pre-Owned Value Award

Dodge Challenger Earns 2016 TrueCar Pre-Owned Value Award

Dodge Challenger receives 2016 TrueCar Pre-Owned Value Award powered by ALG in “Sportscar” segment

2014 Dodge Challenger

TrueCar Pre-Owned Value Awards recognize 2014 model-year vehicles sold in 2016 that are expected to retain the highest value over the next three years

The Dodge and SRT brands offer the most complete lineup of muscle cars in the market today, ranging from the 305-horsepower Challenger SXT to the 707-horsepower Challenger Hellcat

March 22, 2016 , Auburn Hills, Mich. -

The Dodge Challenger is the winner of a 2016 TrueCar Pre-Owned Value Award in the “Sportscar” category.

Powered by ALG, the TrueCar Pre-Owned Value Awards recognize 2014 model-year vehicles across 27 segments that are selling in 2016 and are expected to retain the highest percent of their value over the next three years.

“The Dodge Challenger set its seventh consecutive all-time record sales year in 2015, which means sales have continued to increase every single year since it was re-introduced in 2009,” said Tim Kuniskis, Head of Passenger Car Brands – Dodge, SRT, Chrysler and FIAT, FCA – North America. “This TrueCar Pre-Owned Value Award is a testament to the fact that those Challengers sold several years ago continue to deliver that visceral driving experience and pride of ownership that muscle car enthusiasts demand."

TrueCar Pre-Owned Value Award winners are determined through careful study of used vehicle performance and forecasted future value driven by brand outlook, product competitiveness and other key metrics. Brands eligible to receive an award must have vehicle entries in at least four different segments.

“By offering an exciting driving experience and more interior space versus its competitors, the Dodge Challenger appeals to a broad base of consumers,” said Jim Nguyen, EVP of TrueCar and General Manager of ALG. “The Challenger's retro design combined with updated technology has not only been successful in the new car market, it’s allowed the Challenger to maintain a strong presence in the used market, resulting in high resale values.”

About the 2016 Dodge Challenger

The Dodge and SRT brands offer the most complete lineup of muscle cars in the market, including the 2016 Dodge Challenger SXT with its standard powerful and fuel-efficient Pentastar V-6 engine combined with the TorqueFlite eight-speed transmission that delivers 305 horsepower and an estimated 30 miles per gallon on the highway; the 2016 Dodge Challenger R/T with the high-torque 5.7-liter HEMI® paired with the TorqueFlite eight-speed or six-speed manual transmission; and the 6.4-liter HEMI Challenger R/T Scat Pack that delivers 485 horsepower and 475 lb.-ft. of torque (the most horsepower and torque available for less than $40,000) with the TorqueFlite eight-speed or six-speed manual. The 2016 Dodge Challenger SRT 392 adds six-piston Brembo® front brakes, adaptive damping suspension and SRT Drive Modes to the same 6.4-liter naturally aspirated HEMI powerplant, while the Challenger SRT Hellcat with its 707-horsepower supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI V-8 engine is the most powerful and fastest muscle car ever.

5 Fast Facts: 2016 Dodge Challenger

5 Fast Facts: 2016 Dodge Challenger

April 18, 2016

The 2016 Dodge Challenger is a modern interpretation of the classic 2-door 1971 muscle car, with new technology plus legendary power. There are few changes for 2016 since the 5-seat sporty coupe was refreshed for 2015. A differentiator is a choice of three burly Hemi V-8s—including a supercharged 6.2-liter engine that generates 707 horsepower. Dodge claims the Challenger SRT Hellcat is the most powerful muscle car ever produced.

Here are five fast facts to know about the Challenger before shopping for a sporty car:

1) Performance means 0-60 mph in just over 3 seconds at a possible 199 mph, according to Dodge. The Challenger comes with a choice of four engines partnered with an 8-speed automatic transmission, available with paddle shifters. The base Challenger SXT is equipped with a 3.6-liter V-6 that produces 305 horsepower, averaging an EPA-estimated 30 mpg on the highway.

2) Three Hemi V-8 engines are available: a 5.7-liter that generates 372 horsepower; a 6.4-liter unit that makes 485 horsepower; and the 6.2-liter supercharged motor that kicks out 707 horsepower. Dodge also offers a 6-speed manual for V-8-powered Challengers.

3) The 2016 Challenger comes in 10 trim levels, from base SXT to monster SRT Hellcat, with styling cues from the car’s heritage. A Blacktop Appearance package with stripes and Plum Crazy paint is new for SRT Hellcats this year. Retro Go Mango paint is new for all trim levels. Dodge also offers a range of interior colors and material choices and 12 wheel designs.

4) Technology abounds in the 2016 Challenger. Retro-style tach and speedometer comingle with standard 5.0-in. or available 8.4-in. touch-screen display. Bluetooth, USB, and an auxiliary port are standard along with a power 6-way driver’s seat, dual climate control, and remote start.

5) More than 70 driver-assistance and safety features are available, including forward-collision warning, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitor, and rear cross-traffic detection. Convenience, Leather Interior, Super Sport, and Audio equipment packages also are available for personalization.
