Fiat 500 Abarth Earns New Honors

Fiat 500 Abarth Earns New Honors

10/29/2015

Three years after its introduction, the Fiat 500 Abarth continues to impress automotive experts. Just this month alone, the 500 Abarth has earned accolades on several automotive review sites, being recognized as one of the Most Fun New Cars for Less Than $27,500, one of Quickest Cars For Under $25K and one of the Top 10 Most Tunable 2016 Hatchbacks.

The Fiat 500 Abarth has been named one of Road & Track's Ten of the Most Fun New Cars You Can Buy for Less Than $27,500. Road & Track says you shouldn't have to spend $30,000 to drive a great car, and we agree. The Fiat 500 Abarth brings a genuine European hot hatch driving experience to America.

"If you want a city car that will make you look forward to driving it, you'll have a hard time finding a better car than the Fiat 500 Abarth. It has plenty of flaws, but you won't care every time you hear the exhaust pop and crackle. It's amazing, and it never gets old. Ever."

The 500 Abarth earned a spot on Road Test Reviews' list of Quickest Cars For Under $25K.

"... the engine note and the exhaust is addictive! The little car farts and parps along and if you change down emits a crackle on the overrun that is intoxicating. It’s like driving around in a large bowl of Rice Krispies, snap, crackle and pop."

The 500 Abarth also made Revved Magazine's list of the "Hottest Hot Hatches: Top 10 Most Tunable 2016 Hatchbacks"

"The 500 is the smallest car on the list but a great city car that can zoom through traffic without missing a beat."

and

"...There are a surprising number of U.S.-based Fiat tuning outlets ready to boost up and deck out the 500. They include 500 Madness, Eurocompulsion, and Road Race Engineering."

We have all the top Fiat Abarth tuners and accessory sellers on the Fiat 500 USA Forum. Make sure you stop by the forum and discuss this post and don't forget to visit the vendor section to see all the cool things they have for your car.

2016 Fiat 500L Offers Customers More Personalization Options with Urbana Special Edition

Fiat 500L Urbana Trekking special edition model continues for 2016 model year with the addition of an optional Rosso (red) roof
2016 Fiat 500L available with six-speed automatic transmission for a total of three transmission options
Fiat 500L combines the appeal of the iconic Fiat 500 with four doors and comfortable seating for five
Innovative 1.4-liter MultiAir Turbo engine provides the Fiat 500L with fuel efficiency combined with an output of 160 horsepower and 184 lb.-ft. of torque

Auburn Hills, Mich., Sep 1, 2015 -

Building on the style, efficiency and driving enjoyment that has made the Fiat 500 an icon, the Fiat 500L expands the Cinquecento’s appeal by offering 42 percent extra interior space with comfortable seating for five, engaging driving dynamics, a 160-horsepower 1.4-liter MultiAir Turbo engine and three transmission offerings, all wrapped in contemporary Italian design.

For 2016, the Fiat 500L Urbana Trekking – a special edition introduced for the 2015 model year – continues, offering customers yet another way to express themselves with their FIAT vehicle. The 2016 Fiat 500L Urbana Trekking is outfitted for the city streets with Matte Nero exterior mirrors and bezels on the front and rear fascia, side sills and body-side molding.

To take on the urban terrain, the 500L Urbana Trekking features 17-inch wheels painted Matte Nero. Matte Nero details are complemented by Satin Chrome door handles, tail lamp bezels and accents on the front and rear fascia.

Six glossy exterior paint colors are available, including Verde Bosco Perla (Forest Green Pearl), Rosso Perla (Deep Lava Red), Giallo (yellow), Bianco (white), Grigio Scuro (Gray Metallic) and Blue Tornado, paired with a Nero (black) roof. For 2016, a Rosso (red) roof and exterior mirror appearance package is also available.

Inside, the 500L Urbana Trekking features a Nero leather steering wheel, leatherette door bolsters and cloth seats, as well as a Nero Puro bezel around the instrument panel.

For a high-definition music experience, the segment-exclusive BeatsAudio system is standard, and includes six premium speakers, a 6.5-inch dual-voice coil (DVC) subwoofer with trunk-mounted enclosure and eight-channel amplifier with BeatsAudio’s proprietary digital sound processing (DSP) algorithm. The Fiat 500L Urbana Trekking also comes standard with SiriusXM Radio.

Fiat 500L

Since the modern Fiat 500’s global launch in 2007, more than 1 million of these efficient and city-friendly vehicles have been sold in more than 110 countries. And now with the Fiat 500L, the Cinquecento has grown up to accommodate even more of life’s greatest experiences and emotions all together: children, friends, journeys, music and community. The letter “L” sums up the six dimensions of the Fiat 500L:

“Leveraging,” the FIAT brand’s approach to its iconic Cinquecento design DNA

“Large,” meant as functionality and space via its “small-wide” vehicle architecture with “cab forward” design that enables this Cinquecento to offer exceptional interior volume, front head and shoulder room, and rear cargo space.

“Loft,” a trendsetting environment with segment-exclusive glass A- to D-pillars and an available large dual-pane glass sunroof (20.7 sq. ft. / 1.92 m2) for panoramic views

“Lifestyle,” four unique models, including the Fiat 500L Trekking that blends rugged styling and versatility for a Cinquecento that complements customers with a highly active lifestyle

“Light,” when ‘lightness’ means human- and eco-friendly technology

Paired with its tight European handling and quick steering, the sixth dimension, “Liters,” defines the fuel-efficient MultiAir Turbo engine in the Fiat 500L, providing 117 horsepower per liter with an output of 160 horsepower and 184 lb.-ft. of torque. For driver precision and control, the Fiat 500L features a six-speed manual transmission, six-speed automatic transmission, or six-speed Euro Twin Clutch transmission.

Building upon the Cinquecento’s fun-to-drive DNA, the 2016 Fiat 500L features a touring-tuned chassis, which complements its MultiAir Turbo engine.

The Fiat 500L features a MacPherson front-suspension design with exceptional rigidity for increased cornering performance and reduced weight. A specially designed front cross member serves two roles by providing rigidity to achieve greater acoustic comfort and to integrate a third-load line to improve energy absorption in the event of a crash. The adoption of a “split” type shock absorber mounting transmits road vibrations to the body through two different routes for improved acoustics and better efficiency of the shock absorber.

At the rear, the Fiat 500L features a torsion axle structure with a high level of rolling rigidity to save the weight of an anti-roll bar. Unique to the North American market are specially tuned bushings that deliver ride control and comfort, with the durability needed for more treacherous unpaved roadways.

The Fiat 500L for North America features Koni frequency selective damping (FSD) front strut and rear shock absorbers to deliver improved road-holding and handling characteristics. In addition, the Koni FSD system actively filters out high-frequency suspension inputs from uneven road surfaces and adjusts for comfort and smoothness while maintaining excellent ride control.

The Fiat 500L has more than 40 available safety and security features, including seven standard air bags, reactive head restraints, electronic stability control (ESC) and ParkView rear backup camera.

Illustrating purposeful Italian design, the Fiat 500L features segment-exclusive glass from the A- and D-pillars for an interior environment nearly encapsulated by 360-degree views. For a sporty appearance, the belt- and window-molding surrounds are trimmed in Nero (black).

In addition to a monotone look, the five-passenger Cinquecento offers even more style with its “floating” roof painted in Nero or Bianco (white). The Fiat 500L also provides first- and second-row passengers with cityscape views through largest available dual-pane sunroof in its class.

Exterior paint colors for the 2016 Fiat 500L Pop, Easy and Lounge models include Grigio Chiaro (Graphite Metallic), Grigio Scuro (Gray Metallic), Verde Bosco Perla (Forest Green Pearl), Rosso Perla (Deep Lava Red), Rosso (red), Mocha Latte, Bianco (white) and Nero (black).

Fiat 500L Trekking: the adventurous side of the 500L
Designed with the active and thrill-seeking North American customer in mind, the 2016 Fiat 500L Trekking expands the appeal and practicality of the Fiat 500L with distinct, rugged looks; an athletic two-tone interior environment; unique front and rear fascia designs; flared wheel arches and larger 17-inch wheels to support its adventurous personality.

Making the Fiat 500L Trekking distinct from the 500L Pop, Easy and Lounge models is the addition of aggressively styled front and rear fascias with Grigio Chiaro (graphite) accents for a bolder look. Unique Grigio Chiaro wheel arch and body-side sill moldings give the Fiat 500L Trekking a more adventurous look, while larger 17 x 7-inch aluminum wheels hint at the urban-utility vehicle’s handling capabilities. For 2016, exterior paint colors for the 500L Trekking include the exclusive Blue Tornado, Grigio Scuro (Gray Metallic), Verde Bosco Perla (Forest Green Pearl), Rossa Perla (Deep Lava Red), Mocha Latte, Bianco (white), Nero (black) and Giallo (yellow).

A unique two-tone Nero/Marrone (black/brown) interior environment continues the Fiat 500L Trekking’s rugged-athletic theme. At the center of it all, the Uconnect 5.0 system features a 5-inch intelligently and intuitively designed touchscreen interface, handsfree calling and Bluetooth streaming audio, as well as voice-command control of the radio and a media hub for seamless integration of portable devices. For even more capability, the Fiat 500L Trekking is available with the premium Uconnect 6.5 system with its larger 6.5-inch touchscreen radio, dealer-activated navigation with intuitive map graphics.

Also available on the Fiat 500L is the Uconnect 6.5 model with a 6.5-inch touchscreen display, voice operation of AM/FM and standard SiriusXM Radio, mobile phones and navigation with intuitive map graphics. Additional features include handsfree calling, text messaging (with MAP compatible phones, check UconnectPhone.com for compatibility) and audio streaming via compatible Bluetooth-enabled phones, personalization settings and a premium media hub with USB and auxiliary ports, Both Uconnect 5.0 and 6.5 systems are available with an optional ParkView rear backup camera.

ecoDrive

The 2016 500L offers the FIAT brand’s state-of-the-art ecoDrive, demonstrating that an automaker’s environmental responsibility should extend beyond the production line to the actual way customers drive their cars.

Included on Uconnect 5.0, ecoDrive collects and calculates all necessary data relating to vehicle efficiency and transmits it to the 5-inch touchscreen so drivers can view the information in real time. The information also can be transmitted through the USB port to any configured USB memory stick. Plug the stick into a personal computer, and the feature details vehicle performance, such as per trip CO2 emission levels. In addition, ecoDrive analyzes the driver’s style and provides recommendations on how to modify his or her driving style to help reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.

Beats by Dr. Dre audio system
The 2016 Fiat 500L offers its passengers a music experience the way the artist intended. The BeatsAudio studio-quality sound system includes six premium speakers, including a 6.5-inch dual-voice coil (DVC) subwoofer with trunk-mounted enclosure and eight-channel amplifier with BeatsAudio digital sound processing (DSP) algorithm.

Fiat 500e Offers New Technology for 2016 With All-New Touchscreen Radio and Added Connectivity

Fiat 500e delivers 108 MPGe highway rating and 87 miles of combined city/highway driving range, with city driving range typically greater than 100 miles
Unsurpassed frugality with EPA-estimated annual fuel-equivalent cost of $500
Fiat 500e is designed to keep electric vehicle (EV) ownership simple with its familiar no-nonsense design, convenience features, unique “blended braking” and intelligently integrated approach to battery-electric technology
World-class handling and braking for an EV that adds to the FIAT brand’s lineup of vehicles with highly engaging driving dynamics
2016 Fiat 500e features two new exterior colors

Auburn Hills, Mich., Sep 1, 2015 -

Designing city-friendly, environmentally responsible and fun-to-drive small cars is what the FIAT brand stands for. The 2016 Fiat 500e electrifies the next chapter of the brand’s legacy by embodying the FIAT brand’s simple, purposeful and fun-to-drive values – through iconic style, engaging dynamics and an environmentally responsible zero-emissions design.

New for 2016, the Fiat 500e features Uconnect 5.0, which includes a 5-inch touchscreen, AM/FM radio, Bluetooth capability and integrated voice command for added driver convenience and connectivity.

State-of-the-art powertrain enables 87 miles of class-leading range
Designed to be a Fiat 500 first and foremost, this no-compromise electric vehicle (EV) builds on the Cinquecento’s successful small-car formula, while adding a liquid heated/cooled battery-electric powertrain that produces 111 horsepower (83 kW) and recharges in less than 4 hours with its 6.6 kW on-board charging module (OBCM) connected to a Level 2 energy source (220 volts).

When put through its paces, the aerodynamically styled Fiat 500e was rated with 108 highway MPGe and class-leading 87 miles of combined city and highway driving range by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). And with the Cinquecento’s regenerative braking system, drivers will typically exceed 100 miles of driving range in the city – all without any tailpipe emissions.

Drives like a Fiat 500 that happens to be electric
To ensure the 2016 Fiat 500e delivers world-class EV handling and braking performance, engineers designed a unique chassis and suspension for the EV powertrain, while further solidifying the engaging European driving dynamics the FIAT brand and Cinquecento are known for.

Unique in the EV segment is the Fiat 500e’s innovative “blended braking” system. Unlike other EVs in the market that have an aggressive and unwanted “drag” feeling when lifting off the accelerator pedal, the 2016 Fiat 500e is designed to feel like a regular gasoline-powered Cinquecento, while still immediately regenerating. In most cases, the Fiat 500e uses 100 percent of its regenerative braking capability all the way down to 8 mph to maximize the vehicle’s efficiency, while enabling longer life of the brakes. The system also provides a more consistent and confident brake-pedal feel.

A unique lower-body structure design provides packaging and protection for the 2016 Fiat 500e’s battery, while delivering a 10 percent improvement in bending stiffness. In addition, the design change from internal combustion to battery-electric enabled the Fiat 500e a front-to-rear weight distribution of 57/43 for improved handling performance. The result is a Cinquecento with a tighter and stiffer feel, and an added sense of confidence and control during higher speed maneuvers.

Efficient and simple retro-futuristic styling
The 2016 Fiat 500e pushes its iconic Italian design forward with its wind-tunnel-sculpted shape and retro-futuristic dot-matrix styled cues for a cutting-edge look. To achieve a 13 percent improvement in aerodynamics (0.311 coefficient of drag (Cd) compared with the Fiat 500 Lounge’s 0.359 Cd), the Fiat 500e features eight exterior enhancements developed through more than 140 hours of wind tunnel testing and refinement. The result: a purposeful design that enables this Cinquecento to achieve an additional five miles of range on the highway.

Inside, Fiat 500e fuses retro-futuristic design with unique EV technology elements for an environment that combines simplicity with innovation. Its unique 7-inch thin-film transistor (TFT) instrument cluster displays full-color picture graphics to illustrate vehicle functions, charge levels and trip summary. Below its instrument panel bezel, the Fiat 500e also includes a uniquely designed electronic shifter with easy-to-use push-button transmission mode selection. The center console features an updated cup holder design and a media hub with an auxiliary port and a USB port that is fully functional and integrated with the radio.

The 2016 Fiat 500e features the Uconnect 5.0 system with a 5-inch touchscreen that enables handsfree calling via Bluetooth-equipped phones, as well as voice-command control of AM/FM, and optional SiriusXM Radio and navigation system. Digital music can be streamed wirelessly from compatible Bluetooth smartphones or audio players supported by a media hub equipped with an auxiliary jack and USB port that enables recharging and seamless operation of portable devices. An integrated CD player offers additional media flexibility.

For added style, the interior environment is available in Nero (black) or exclusive Steam (white), highlighted by Arancio Electrico (Electric Orange) or gray to bring even more design character to this Cinquecento. These unique interiors can be paired with eight available exterior paint colors, including new Grigio Cenre (light gray) and Rhino (dark gray).

EV-specific sound-deadening materials enable a 20 percent quieter interior
In addition to the 2016 Fiat 500e’s electric powertrain, this Cinquecento also includes 13 product improvements that help to reduce interior cabin noise while driving. These NVH improvements include:

Additional mastic patches on floor
Additional sound-deadening material in rear quarter body cavity
Additional acoustic pads to wheelhouse liners
Gasket between the mirror flag and door
Mirror flag and B-pillar applique foam seals
Additional 8 mm acoustic pad to rear floor behind rear seats
Antenna with strakes
Addition of a carpet mass layer
Noise absorption pads in front doors
Isolated engine torque mount
Improved door glass belt and channel sealing
Acoustic windshield glass
Stiffened body structure

FIAT Access provides real-time vehicle information
Keeping passengers of the Fiat 500e connected to vehicle information is the FIAT Access smartphone app (compatible with iPhone and Android), which includes three years of connected services and enables real-time vehicle status, manages charging, tracks the driver’s energy use, locates the vehicle and nearby charging stations, plans and sends routes to the vehicle and provides text-message and email alerts.

Fiat 500 Abarth Cabrio (500c) features a clever open-top design for a high-performance four-passenger cabrio experience
Abarth-tuned hardware delivers world-class ride and track-ready durability with a lowered ride height, beefier suspension, larger brakes and wider tires

Auburn Hills, Mich., Sep 1, 2015 -

The Fiat 500 Abarth brought world-class performance, aggressive styling, high power-to-weight ratio and limited-production volume to the small-car segment in North America. The “small but wicked” Abarth models provide one of the most visceral driving experiences in the industry, inspired by the racing traditions that made Abarth a success on international racetracks.

For 2016, the Fiat 500 Abarth and Abarth Cabrio models feature the Uconnect 5.0 system with a 5-inch touchscreen that enables handsfree calling via Bluetooth-equipped phones, as well as voice-command control of AM/FM, and optional SiriusXM Radio and navigation system. Digital music can be streamed wirelessly from compatible Bluetooth smartphones or audio players supported by a media hub equipped with an auxiliary jack and USB port that enables recharging and seamless operation of portable devices. An integrated CD player offers additional media flexibility.

New exterior paint colors for 2016 are Grigio Cenre (light gray), Rhino (dark gray), Celeste Blue (light blue) and Giallo Moderna Perla (Modern Pearl Yellow). Additional exterior customization is available with new-for-2016 wheel options.

Open-air freedom with an intelligent power cloth-top and rigid structural design
With the Fiat 500 Abarth’s high-performance DNA intact, the 2016 Fiat 500c Abarth delivers the same track-proven attributes that have made the hatchback model a success on European and North American roadways and racetracks, but now brings even more fresh air and the unmistakable Abarth-tuned exhaust note into the cabin.

With just the push of a button, the Fiat 500c Abarth’s power-operated cloth-top retracts up to the rear spoiler during speeds up to a best-in-class 60 mph (a midway point can be chosen by pressing the button anytime in between). Press the roof button again, and the roof will fold all the way open and tuck neatly behind the rear head restraints (up to 50 mph).

For access to the Fiat 500c Abarth’s trunk, premium “parallelogram” liftgate hinges conveniently position the liftgate out of the way, while the power-operated cloth-top automatically retracts back to the rear-spoiler position to avoid any obstruction.

In addition to its cleverly designed multi-position power-retractable cloth-top, the Fiat 500c Abarth’s fully stamped body side silhouette retains the iconic Cinquecento form while delivering added structural rigidity.

“Abarth treatment” and tradition continue to deliver extraordinary results
In the late 1950s, Karl Abarth believed that race cars with brilliant performance could be derived from small, lightweight, everyday driving cars, including the original Cinquecento (500). And his tradition of track-ready small cars continues today with the high-performance Fiat 500 Abarth and Abarth Cabrio.

Staying faithful to the performance principles that made the Abarth name a success, the Fiat 500 Abarth and Abarth Cabrio embody the brand’s motorsport traditions:

Everyday performance car
Track-ready capability, high horsepower-per-liter engine, combined with the quality, efficiency and refinement expected in a world-class small car
Competitive
Benchmark levels of performance, track-proven reliability and durability
Aggressive
Purposeful and functional performance design, Abarth-tuned powertrain control module (PCM) and performance-tuned exhaust with menacing sound
Attainable
State-of-the-art powertrain and chassis technology once limited to premium-priced performance cars
Racing heritage
More than 60 years of performance and competition tuning, including active international series races today

1.4-liter MultiAir Turbo engine with 117 horsepower per liter
The 2016 Fiat 500 Abarth and Abarth Cabrio feature the track-proven 1.4-liter MultiAir Turbo engine for up to 160 horsepower, 183 lb.-ft. of torque and 0-to-60 mph performance in the low 7-second range.

Compared with the naturally aspirated 1.4-liter MultiAir engine, the boost in horsepower on the Fiat 500 Abarth and Abarth Cabrio is largely due to its single turbocharger that operates off engine exhaust and utilizes energy that would normally be wasted through the tailpipe. The turbocharger spins up to 230,000 rpm to convert exhaust heat and pressure to a rotational force that drives a compressor. The compressor draws cool air and pumps it into the intake manifold at increased pressure that results in a greater amount of air in the cylinder and, hence, more power.

The 1.4-liter MultiAir Turbo’s induction system includes two intercoolers located behind the driver and passenger side air inlets of the Abarth-styled front fascia. The intercoolers are designed to remove heat in the air charge that the turbocharger generates while compressing incoming air (higher air density for more power). Reducing heat provides a cooler, denser air charge that helps increase the potential for more power.

Other high-performance engine component upgrades include an Abarth-designed fresh-air intake system with high-flow air filter and smooth-flowing plumbing for maximum power. And to make sure the engine is operating with minimal exhaust restriction, an Abarth-designed concentric “double-tip” dual-exhaust system delivers a high-performance look with menacing Abarth-tuned sound.

Optional automatic transmission allows more customers to enjoy track-ready Abarth
The 2016 Fiat 500 Abarth and Abarth Cabrio are available with an optional six-speed automatic transmission, helping to broaden the customer base for the high-performance version of the Fiat 500.

To ensure the 2016 Fiat 500 Abarth and Abarth Cabrio remain true to their high-performance and track-ready heritage, the six-speed automatic transmission has been reinforced with more clutch plates and a more robust heat treatment to allow for higher torque capability. The Sport mode calibration allows for an even more engaged driving experience with special features, such as fuel-cut upshifts, rev-matching downshifts, brake-assist downshifts, corner gear hold and fast-off gear hold, as well as a more aggressive pedal map.

The 2016 Fiat 500 Abarth and Abarth Cabrio come standard with a track-proven five-speed manual transmission.

The standard five-speed manual transmission is mated to the 1.4-liter MultiAir Turbo engine for 160 horsepower and up to 170 lb.-ft. of torque. The optional six-speed automatic transmission is also paired with the 1.4-liter MultiAir Turbo engine, delivering 157 horsepower and up to 183 lb.-ft. of torque.

Track-ready performance components
The Fiat 500 Abarth and Abarth Cabrio are designed, engineered and tested to deliver the high-performance driving and enduring capabilities needed for track use.

Like the Fiat 500 hatchback, the Fiat 500 Abarth and Abarth Cabrio feature an enhanced front and rear suspension design to deliver the precision handling, steering and refinement needed for high-performance driving. Compared to the Fiat 500, the Abarth models features a unique MacPherson suspension design with stiffer front spring rates and 0.6-inch (15 mm) lower ride height for improved handling and minimal body roll. Abarth-designed cast-iron front lower control arms provide improved lateral stiffness, while an increase in negative camber to -1.5 degrees delivers improved grip and steering precision. In addition, dual-valve frequency selective damping (FSD) Koni twin-tube struts deliver road control and maximum grip while actively filtering out high-frequency suspension inputs from uneven road surfaces to adjust for comfort and smoothness.

The beefier rear suspension design of the Fiat 500 Abarth and Abarth Cabrio takes the Cinquecento model’s (already 300 percent stiffer than the European Fiat 500) twist-beam design further, with a torsionally rigid rear axle designed with strengthened coil-spring supports for greater durability. A 22 mm Abarth-specific solid rear stabilizer bar increases cornering grip. For improved handling, minimal body roll and ride-height control (when fully loaded), the Fiat 500 Abarth and Abarth Cabrio feature stiffer rear springs with 0.6-inch (15 mm) lower ride.

Delivering 10 percent quicker steering, enhanced responsiveness, maneuverability and high-performance feel, the Fiat 500 Abarth and Abarth Cabrio features a 15.1:1 (up from 16.3:1) steering-gear ratio. Compared to the standard Cinquecento models, the Fiat 500 Abarth and Abarth Cabrio feature a uniquely tuned electronic power steering (EPS) calibration for increased steering response and feedback. In addition, a road-crown and crosswind algorithm automatically compensates for temporary situations where there is a constant push of the car to one side or another, assisting the driver against such conditions.

The Fiat 500 Abarth and Abarth Cabrio feature a high-performance brake system with semi-metallic brake linings at all four corners and larger 11.1-inch ventilated rotors for greater stopping power (up from 10.1-inch). Both front and rear brake calipers are lacquered in Rosso (red) paint for an athletic look. An Abarth-tuned electronic stability control system (ESC) features three calibration modes to maximize handling capabilities on and off the track. When ESC is selected from “On” to “Partial Off” or “Full Off” on the instrument panel, the Fiat 500 Abarth and Abarth Cabrio’s innovative torque transfer control (TTC) system maximizes throttle performance during on-throttle cornering.

Standard on the Fiat 500 Abarth and Abarth Cabrio are 16 x 6.5-inch cast-aluminum wheels with 195/45 R16 Pirelli Cinturato P7 tires that deliver all-season traction and low-noise characteristics. For even more performance, larger and wider 17 x 7-inch forged-aluminum wheels keep this Cinquecento lightweight at each corner and feature high-performance three-season Pirelli P-Zero Nero tires with a 205/40 R17 size for a wider stance and reduced profile for improved handling.

Exterior and interior design enhancements added only for performance gain
The aggressive styling of the Fiat 500 Abarth and Abarth Cabrio embody the Abarth brand tradition in full – purposeful and intentional details, all designed to improve the car’s performance while enhancing the clean and simple design language of the Cinquecento.

To improve aerodynamics and the necessary engine compartment space for the 1.4-liter MultiAir Turbo engine, the Fiat 500 Abarth and Abarth Cabrio feature a more pronounced front fascia. For additional air intake, the signature “Abarth” shield floats on a finned surface, and a larger intake below consists of three inlets with broader openings than the standard Cinquecento models. For a more aggressive look, twin “nostrils” are precisely positioned on the front fascia to maximize airflow in and out of the two engine intercoolers (both intercoolers are visible through the “nostril” inlets).

Abarth-designed side sills give an athletic profile, while 16-inch or optional 17-inch lightweight forged-aluminum wheels fill the flared wheel arches and provide ventilation for the performance brake system.

From the rear, an aggressively styled Abarth-specific cloth-top-mounted spoiler extends the roofline and improves the Abarth Cabrio’s aerodynamic behavior by creating additional downforce. Below, the two-piece Abarth-styled rear fascia accentuates the road-holding stance and optimizes airflow with its rear diffuser.

The interior design theme of the Fiat 500 Abarth and Abarth Cabrio is an artistic blend of clean and functional performance appointments. An Abarth-designed steering wheel features a thick rim, perforated leather and flat bottom to provide the look, feel and increased roominess desired during at-the-limit driving.

The 7-inch high-definition color TFT (thin-film transistor) cluster display sits behind the steering wheel and features a leather-wrapped cluster brow wrapped in Nero leather with Rosso accent stitching. The cluster display allows drivers to easily monitor data like g-forces, speed, fuel level and trip information. When the vehicle is in Sport mode, the TFT cluster display becomes more aggressive in appearance, complementing the Sport mode’s more engaged driving experience. Below the instrument panel, Abarth-designed aluminum pedal covers feature Nero rubber trim for a decidedly racing look, while the Nero leather shift knob with Rosso accent stitching provides a precise feel of the shifter.

Unique Abarth-styled front performance seats feature a one-piece design with large side bolsters, a racing-harness pass through, accent stitching around the perimeter and integrated side-thorax air bags.

Fiat 500 Abarth and Abarth Cabrio feature innovative technologies
Abarth-tuned Sport mode

The Fiat 500 Abarth and Abarth Cabrio feature a Sport mode calibration for more engaging driving. Should the driver select Sport mode on the instrument panel, the Abarth-tuned PCM unleashes the full power of the 1.4-liter MultiAir Turbo with linear throttle response and a more precise steering feel. When Sport mode is not engaged on an Abarth model equipped with the manual transmission, the Abarth returns to Normal mode and limits the torque in first and second gears to enhance fuel efficiency and minimize CO2 emissions.

Abarth shift light with turbo-boost gauge
An additional benefit of the Abarth-tuned PCM is the turbo-boost gauge mounted left of the instrument cluster. Should the driver choose to switch to Sport mode in a Fiat 500 Abarth, the boost gauge illuminates “Sport” to alert drivers that they’ve chosen to drive in Sport mode and an up-shift light integrated in the TFT cluster will alert the driver when engine speed is approaching the redline – giving the immediate feedback needed on the track or during high performance driving.

Beats by Dr. Dre
Beats by Dr. Dre audio system offers passengers of the Fiat 500 Abarth and Abarth Cabrio models a high-definition music experience the way the artist intended. The BeatsAudio studio-quality sound system includes six premium speakers, an 8-inch dual-voice coil (DVC) subwoofer with trunk-mounted enclosure and 8-channel 368-watt amplifier with BeatsAudio digital sound processing (DSP) algorithm.

More than 35 safety and security features, including Abarth-tuned electronic stability control (ESC)
State-of-the-art connectivity and more than 35 safety and security features keep passengers of the Fiat 500 Abarth and Abarth Cabrio connected, comfortable and secure.

The Fiat 500 Abarth and Abarth Cabrio feature seven standard air bags, including driver and front-passenger advanced multistage air bags, driver’s knee air bag, full-length side-curtain air bags and standard seat-mounted side pelvic-thorax air bags, offering enhanced protection to all occupants in the event of a collision.

In addition, a unique three-mode ESC system is standard for improved braking performance in wet or panic conditions. The Abarth-tuned ESC system features a three-mode calibration, including “ESC On” to “ESC Partial Off” and enthusiast-desired “ESC Full Off.”

New exterior paint colors for 2016 are Spitfire Orange, Grigio Cenre (light gray), Rhino (dark gray) and Latte Menta (light green). Celeste Blue (light blue), previously only available on the Fiat 500 1957 Edition, is now available throughout the Fiat 500 lineup. Bolder side skirts and unique 16-inch aluminum wheels with Nero painted pockets enhance its iconic Cinquecento shape. At the rear, a liftgate-mounted spoiler extends the roofline, while a black-accented rear diffuser optimizes airflow. For a bolder look, Nero headlamp and tail lamp bezels replace chromed units, while a high-performance brake system features brake calipers lacquered in Rosso paint.

Inside, the Fiat 500 Turbo features sport-styled seating, performance-designed leather-wrapped shift knob and steering wheel accented with Argento (silver) stitching and Grigio/Nero (gray/black) seating and interior environment. For an even more upscale look, heated leather seating in Nero/Nero (black/black) or vivid Rosso/Nero (red/black) is available. The standard 7-inch color TFT (thin-film transistor) cluster display allows drivers to easily monitor information.

An EPA-rated 40 mpg highway

Fiat’s successful small car formula worked then and still works now
Like the original Cinquecento, the 2016 Fiat 500 and 500c showcase the brand’s ingenuity to build world-class small cars that ignite a spirit of the times through simple design, beautiful craftsmanship and timeless value. As a result, the Fiat 500 has continued to surprise and delight customers worldwide for more than 50 years.

Satisfying the individual mobility need for Italians and other Europeans after the Second World War, the original Fiat “Nuova” 500 became a catalyst in 1957 for the country of the “poor but beautiful” to be not quite as poor. With almost 4 million examples produced between 1957 and 1975, the small and efficient Fiat 500 succeeded in providing an affordable, comfortable and reliable transportation solution while helping to ignite Italy’s post-war economic recovery.

More than 50 years later, and thanks to its stylistic and modern technological features, the modern Fiat 500 represents the spark of another milestone along the lasting process of expansion. And this is where its history started again.

Reminiscent of the original Cinquecento, the 2016 Fiat 500 builds on the vehicle’s global popularity. Since its initial launch in 2007, more than 1 million Fiat 500 vehicles have been sold in more than 110 countries around the world. The model’s unquestionable popularity is the result of the Fiat 500’s great ability to deliver unmatched personalization options with advanced solutions in terms of quality, engine performance and passenger comfort. In addition to success on the sales front, the Fiat 500 has earned more than 80 international awards.
