Call Of Duty Jeep Coming! (not the video game)
Call Of Duty Jeep Coming From Chrysler [Like Call Of Duty Games? Why Not Drive Home In A Limited Edition Real Life Jeep?]
September 17th 2010
Chrysler, the fine American car company that’s owned by Fiat and the UAW is coming out with a special edition Call of Duty
-themed Jeep Wrangler. Nope, this isn’t some toy car, Chrysler will be selling a real life full-size automobile Jeep Wrangler that’s Call of Duty-themed. Oh brother.
Chrysler and Jeep aren’t strangers to video games. For a while, they’ve been prominent sponsors of in-game video game advertising. Usually, they deal with video game publisher Ubisoft. Dodge cars were featured in Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Vegas. Chrysler cars were featured in Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Double Agent, and Jeeps were featured in the title Far Cry 2.
And, it’s been confirmed that Jeeps will be in this fall’s Activision title Call of Duty: Black Ops. This real-life limited edition Jeep Wrangler will be modeled after the “hero vehicle” in the game, which we assume is the vehicle the player will drive in the game.
Nothing yet on what this truck will look like, how much it’ll cost, or what not. While car companies doing these limited editions of commercial products are nothing new (Ford trucks and the Harley Davidson package, the Ford Mustang and the Bullitt package), we’ve never seen them partner with video games.
While gamers gobble up limited-edition game-themed Mountain Dews and other gear, it’s hard to imagine a lot of gamers slapping down $27,000 for a new Call of Duty jeep.
Still, we’ve got to admit that we’re interested in this grand experiment in video game licensing and merchandising.
