Calgary International Auto and Truck Show

Number-One Selling Automaker in Alberta Brings All-New 2015 Ram 1500 Rebel and 2015 Ram Laramie Limited to 2014 Calgary International Auto and Truck Show

March 11, 2015 , Calgary -

Coming off of a stellar 2014 in the Wild Rose province, FCA Canada (formerly known as Chrysler Canada) is looking to maintain that momentum with two exciting new Ram Truck products making their Western Canadian premieres at the 2014 Calgary International Auto and Truck Show this week. “We want to thank our Albertan customers for making us not only the number-one selling automaker in Alberta (1), but also the fastest-growing car company in the Calgary region in 2014 (2),” said Bob Devlin, Head of FCA Canada, Western Business Centre. “Certainly the exclusive and best-in-class features of our Ram Trucks were a driving force to help us achieve these results, which is why we’re so excited to be showcasing the all-new 2015 Ram 1500 Rebel and the New 2015 Ram Laramie Limited here in Calgary for the first time.” Alongside the pair of new Ram products, eight other FCA Canada vehicles will have their Western Canadian Premieres in Calgary, including the 2015 Chrysler 300, 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat, 2015 Dodge Charger, 2015 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat, 2015 Dodge Viper SRT, 2015 Jeep Renegade, 2015 Ram ProMaster City and the 2016 Fiat 500X About 2015 Ram 1500 Rebel The new 2015 Ram 1500 Rebel drops right into a core segment of the full-size pickup truck market, bringing one-of-a-kind off-road design cues and a can-do attitude backed by Ram Truck engineering. Departing from the brand’s iconic “cross-hair” design, Rebel features an all-new grille with prominent, billet silver “RAM” letter badging, plus an aluminum twin-snorkel sport hood, a new black powder-coated front bumper, a billet silver skid plate, new front tow hooks and new LED fog lamps. Rebel’s flacks wear black Power Wagon wheel-arch mouldings, flat-black badges, mirrors and lower body panels to create a distinctive trail-ready presence. New 17-inch aluminum wheel with matte black painted accent pockets are among the most elaborate designs found in mass production. Continuing around to the rearview, Rebel wears a bold new “RAM” stamped tailgate with blacked-out lettering, atop a powder coated black bumper and tail lamps with black bezels to match the forward lighting. Rebel offers an optional backup camera, the exclusive RamBox storage system and a new tri-fold tonneau cover embossed with the Ram logo. Inside, Rebel is every bit as brawny and rugged as it is outside. High-durability technical grain vinyl seats are finished in Radar Red and Black with Sedoso fabric inserts embossed with a Toyo tire tread pattern, matching the Rebel’s actual footprint. A Ram’s head is embroidered on the headrests, while “Rebel” appears on the upper bolsters. Black, Radar Red and Light Diesel Grey are the main and accent colours found throughout the unique cabin. Rebel’s all-new centre console incorporates inserts for various-sized cell phones and tablets. The heated steering wheel is wrapped with semi-perforated black leather, accented again with Radar Red X-stitching. Radar Red is also used to highlight the anodized vent rings, door accent rings, door trim spears, centre console trim ring and the Ram’s head on the deep, all-weather rubber floor mats. The interior is finished off with a new black headliner and matching upper pillars. The Rebel’s trail-running capability gets a boost by taking advantage of the Ram 1500’s class-exclusive air suspension system, here with a 2.5 cm (1 inch) factory lift. This not only helps to clear the beefy 33-inch (LT285/70R17) Toyo Open Country A/T all-terrain tires, but also contributes to best-in-class ground clearance of 26.1 cm (10.3 in.) and improved off-road approach, departure and breakover angles. Bilstein® supplies front and rear shocks with unique tuning and a new steering calibration is matched to the Rebel’s increased ride height. A softer rear stabilizer bar provides improved dynamics. Rebel is available exclusively as a Crew Cab model with a 5-ft.-by-7-inch bed length. Both the 3.6-litre Pentastar™ V6 (305 horsepower/269 lb-ft of torque) and 5.7-litre HEMI powertrains (395 hp/410 lb.-ft. ) are offered, mated to a class-exclusive TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic which improves drivability and enhances fuel efficiency. About 2015 Ram Laramie Limited Alongside the Ram 1500 Rebel, Ram Truck had an additional unveiling on the show floor in Toronto. Following its world debut just minutes before at the 2015 Chicago Auto Show, the 2015 Ram Laramie Limited was shown in Canada for the first time. Already the benchmark for truck opulence, the 2015 model shows even higher level of sophistication and attention to detail, as demanded from Ram Truck’s high-end pickup buyers. The Laramie Limited’s all-new grille is the most prominent change on the exterior. Its new billet port grille with bold “RAM” lettering breaks from the long tradition of crosshair styling. On each side of the grille, a quad headlamp design includes a bi-functional halogen projector system placed in a dark background. Fifteen amber LEDs illuminate park/turn/position lamps and three amber LEDs serve for the side markers. A Ram shield logo is moulded into the housing, and the Ram name is moulded into the inside of the outer lens. Matching the new front grille theme, a new tailgate design is fixed with a 50.8 cm (20-inch)-wide, bright chrome “RAM” badge so onlookers can clearly identify the truck. A new chrome accent strip lines the base of the gate. Ram 1500 Laramie Limited features an all-new 20-inch forged multi-surface aluminum wheel – unique in the truck market and a detail not to be missed. Polished surfaces are accented with painted silver. Inside, the 2015 Ram Laramie Limited is the apex of modern luxury. It features premium materials, all-black, full Natura Plus premium leather seating, real Argento wood components and diamond knurled Liquid Chrome gauge rings inspired by modish watches. Subtle stitching accents, pin striping, unique materials and patterns are also found throughout. Ram Laramie Limited is a “black-tie” luxury alternative to the popular southwestern-themed Laramie Longhorn edition pickup. The newly designed, deep and double-stacked centre console is topped with a forgiving, French-stitched full-leather lid and pronounced Limited badge, covering USB, auxiliary and 12-volt service points. Just forward of the console lid, a new bin houses a cellular phone and tablet holder, which can be concealed with a new, real wood sliding door. A-pillar and B-pillar handles feature a leather wrap with rollover Greystone stitching. The 2015 Laramie Limited features the next generation 8.4-inch Uconnect system with standard navigation. Digital background screens are tailor-made to the high-class trim, another detail valued by premium truck customers. Ram Laramie Limited also is equipped with air suspension (1500 only), wheel-to-wheel side steps, navigational radio, remote start, backup camera, power adjustable pedals with memory, heated steering wheel, front ventilated and heated seats, heated rear seats and RamBox (Heavy Duty, 6-foot, 4-inch bed only). The new Ram trim will be available on 1500, 2500 and 3500 models. The upgraded interior and exterior trim aligns with a long list of best-in-class titles under the Ram moniker, including fuel economy, payload, torque and towing capacity. Vancouver International Auto Show

Vancouver International Auto Show

03/27/2015

Alfa Romeo's 4C coupe was arguably the most highly anticipated vehicle to grace Vancouver’s auto party. - See more at: Vancouver International Auto Show

People can expect to see futuristic concept vehicles, a gallery of supercars, more than 30 vehicles never seen before in Western Canada and even Hollywood North cars at the Vancouver International Auto Show this weekend.

The show, which celebrates its 95th anniversary this year, has expanded, now taking up almost 28,000 square metres on two levels of the Vancouver Convention Centre.

More than 30 brands from manufacturers around the world, including a number of Canadian firms, are represented.

Quote:
Centre stage at Toyota was their innovative three-wheeled i-Road. The two-seater (the passenger sits behind the driver, more like a motorcycle configuration) combines the advantages of a motorcycle with an enclosed cabin.

What sets the i-Road apart from other three-wheelers is its 800-millimetre width, which is only 15 centimetres wider than a typical scooter.

Designed as an urban warrior, the concept is powered by a two-kilowatt motor with a range of 50 kilometres at a top speed of 45 km/h.

Toyota has incorporated what it calls Active Lean into the ride, with computers calculating optimal lean based on speed, steering angle and a gyroscope. The YouTube clips on the Internet show a fun, zippy vehicle.

At the other end of the spectrum was the appearance of a rare Porsche 918 Spyder. If the 4.6-litre V-8 wasn't enough power, Porsche put in two electric motors (one front and rear) to make it perhaps the most eco-friendly hybrid in the world capable of hitting 340 km/h.

The Kia Soul EV was named Green Car of the Year at the start of the auto show by members of the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada. The Soul has also won Best New City Car honours from the same organization last year, Best Eco-Friendly Vehicle by MotorWeek and 2015 Car of the Year in Norway.

Lovers of automobile art need to make a special trip to the Infiniti booth, where the stunning Q80 concept is parked. This knock-your-socks-off show car may never get built, but the Japanese luxury brand says people can expect to see elements of its design to show up in future models.

Nissan brought its Blade Glider to the show. They call it an exploratory prototype with an electric powertrain.

Perhaps the most anticipated vehicle for lovers of everything Italian was the Alfa Romeo 4C coupe in the flesh. The Italian stallion, properly attired in Racing Red paint, is set to gallop back to North America after a 20-year absence. Last year, it was reported the base price of the coupe would be under $62,000. The model at the show, identified as the launch edition, had a sticker price of a little more than $80,000.

Honda rolled out the third-generation 2016 Pilot, its largest SUV. The new body is sleeker, shedding the boxy look of its predecessor. A revised engine includes direct injection and stop-start technology. An optional nine-speed ZF automatic will be available.

Not to be outdone, Lincoln debuted its 2016 MKX, a mid-sized premium SUV that builds on the success of the MKC. Expect to see it this summer.

Mitsubishi debuted the plug-in hybrid version of the Outlander. The manufacturer claims the Outlander PHEV is the world's only twin-electric motor four-wheel-drive plug-in hybrid. It has a 60-kilowatt battery and a 2.0-litre gas engine. Visitors to the booth will see a cutaway version of the vehicle, showing how power is distributed.

Electric and electrified vehicles at the show, such as the BMW i8 and the upcoming Audi A3 Sportback e-tron got a boost with the announcement that the Clean Energy Vehicles for British Columbia (CEV for BC) program is returning Apr. 1. Under the new plan, the Province of B.C. will provide $7.5 million in incentives for the next three years for consumers purchasing battery electric, fuel cell and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles. Point of sale incentives of up to $5,000 per vehicle are available.

Perhaps the only electric vehicle not eligible for the just-announced incentive at the show was the all-electric Bigfoot monster truck.

The 2015 Chevrolet Corvette had a lot of company at this year's show, with seven generations and over six decades of the iconic U.S. sports car, from 1961 to today, on display.

Local talent is also on display, with Abbotsford's 360 Fabrications entering a custom-built 1963 Lincoln Convertible after a $1-million restoration. (See separate story on page E6). The car boasts the world’s first twin Focal Ultima speaker kit installation, making it North America’s most expensive car audio speaker system.

Apart from the main exhibition space, visitors will find booths and interactive displays interspersed in hallways. The displays are almost all virtual car simulators that allow drivers to put the pedal to the metal safely. They range from the super sophisticated, with occupants tossed around on a seat bolted to a hydraulic platform, to the basic, which invariably features three computer screens arrayed in front of the driver.

Best advice for the show? Wear comfortable shoes.

Tickets for today are $15 for adults, $10 for seniors, $4 for children and $30 for a family of two adults with two children age 12 and under. For Saturday and Sunday, tickets are $17 adults, $12 seniors, $5 children, $35 family. Children age six and under free. The show runs 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. today and Saturday and

10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday at the Vancouver Convention Centre, 1055 Canada Pl., Vancouver. For more information, go to vancouverinternationalautoshow.com.
