'Rebirth' of Street and Racing Technology Brand

Chrysler Group LLC is changing up management and speeding up vehicles with the rebirth of its SRT – Street and Racing Technology – brand.

According to the Auburn Hills automaker, the brand will build low-volume, high-performance vehicles for Dodge, Chrysler and Jeep.

Chrysler launched the SRT Brand at the 2002 NAIAS in Detroit "to create a line of industry-leading performance vehicles and parts," but hasn’t done much to develop the brand in recent years, according to officials.

The Dodge Challenger SRT8 is the only vehicle currently available from the SRT family.

But starting this fall, Chrysler will release 2012 SRT models of the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8, Chrysler 300 SRT8 (both unveiled at the NY International Auto Show), Dodge Charger SRT8 (unveiled at the Chicago Auto Show).

Ralph Gilles, president and CEO of Dodge and senior vice president of product design for Chrysler, will lead the new line of vehicles as SRT president and CEO, officials say.

In addition to Gilles' added responsibilities, other changes in Chrysler management include:

Reid Bigland, who is president and CEO of Chrysler Canada, will also head U.S. sales and be president and CEO of the Dodge car brand.
Joe ChamaSrour moves to international operations, reporting to Mike Manley, who is president and CEO of Jeep and heads Chrysler's international business.
David Buckingham, previously vice president of sales, Chrysler Canada, is now in the newly created role of chief operating officer of Chrysler Canada, reporting to Bigland.
Fred Diaz, who is CEO of the Ram Truck Brand, was named president and CEO of Chrysler of Mexico, which includes responsibility for Latin America.

According to Chrysler, the “new Mexico/Latin America role for Diaz shows the growing importance of those markets for Chrysler Group's future success.”

All of the management changes are effective immediately.
