The highlight of the MSP's Vehicle Evaluation was one of the laps turned in by the 2012 Dodge Charger Pursuit V-8: It chased the two-mile, closed course at Grattan Raceway** in 1:33.70 -- the fastest lap ever in test history.

“Even more impressive is that all four Michigan State Police Vehicle Test Team drivers averaged their fastest times in the Charger Pursuit – reinforcing the driver confidence provided when world-class acceleration, braking, handling and dynamics are combined," said VP of Network Development and Fleet Peter Grady.

In fact, the Charger Pursuit V-8 bested all other police cars in the following rapid acceleration categories:

0-to-60 mph: 5.83 sec
0-to-70 mph: 7.38 sec
0-to-80 mph: 9.18 sec
0-to-90 mph: 11.43 sec
0-to-100 mph: 13.65 sec

One of the Charger Pursuit V-8's sibling also held its own on the Grattan Raceway course:

The 292-horsepower Charger Pursuit V-6 models averaged the fastest times for naturally aspirated (1:37.71) and E-85 capable (1:37.57) six-cylinder police cars.

Now, before you go thinking we're just touting the police vehicle in the daily fight against crime, we all know that the police car is just a tool. Just like an officer's firearm. The true "high-performancers" in keeping us safe are the men and women in law enforcement.

Every second of every day, those men and women put their lives on the line to keep us safe and work hard to serve up justice. Everyone connected with the Dodge Charger Pursuit police car and throughout Chrysler Group salute and thank them.

Cool 2012 Ram 1500 Police Truck

2012 Ram 1500 Special Service Reports for Duty

November 7 2011

2012 Ram 1500 Special Service Front View

Chrysler has spent much of 2011 releasing special-purpose versions of the Ram and its latest creation, the 2012 Ram 1500 Special Purpose serves a special purpose indeed. Among other things, this beefed up police-spec truck features an upgraded 220-amp alternator and an extra door support that allows departments to install ballistic material inside the doors.

2012 Ram 1500 Special Service Reports for Duty imagePowering the Ram 1500 Special Purpose is the standard-issue 5.7-liter Hemi V-8 that makes the same 390 horsepower and 407 pound-feet of torque as in the civilian version and is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. A 3.92 ratio axle is the only one offered and four-wheel drive is standard as well. The four-door crew cab is the only cab offered, though the RamBox storage system is available for departments that find it useful.

Along with the stronger alternator, Chrysler fitted this ram with what it calls the Power Distribution Center, which is gets power directly by the battery through two 100-amp fuses. The PDC is designed specifically to power camera, computer, modem, and printer systems. Additionally, the Ram Special Purpose’s wiring harness is pre-designed to handle the usual variety of police accessories such as light bars, sirens, and radar.

Inside the cabin is a modified instrument cluster that includes a certified speedometer, an engine hour and idle hour meter, plus a 110-volt inverter. The center column is removed to add space, while the shifter moves to the steering column. As is typical in police vehicles, the rear bench seat is covered in vinyl while the front seats receive stain-resistant cloth upholstery.

Though few police departments need the 10,000-pound towing capacity or the 1455-payload the Ram offers, rural outfits will appreciate the trucks durability and off-road capability and will plan on allocating some of their purchasing budgets when the Special Service becomes available later this month.

Twenty-four Mopar parts may be ordered separately

September 1, 2012 , Auburn Hills, Mich. -

Designed and engineered to be America’s high-performance police vehicle, the 2013 Dodge Charger V-6 and V-8 provide law-enforcement with the best combination of tactical technology, safety, power, efficiency and iconic design.

The Dodge Charger Pursuit features two uncompromised, high-performance engines that deliver world-class levels of power, refinement, technology and fuel efficiency.

Delivering best-in-class power and the fastest-ever lap time at Michigan State Police’s (MSP) Vehicle Evaluation Test history (1:33.70) at Grattan Raceway in Michigan – the Dodge Charger Pursuit V-8 with its legendary 5.7-liter HEMI® V-8 engine unleashes 370 horsepower, 390 lb.-ft. of torque, 0-to-60 mph in less than 6 seconds and up to 25 highway mpg with innovative four-cylinder mode Fuel Saver Technology.

Achieving the fastest naturally aspirated (tested with both regular unleaded and E-85 flex-fuel) lap times around MSP’s Vehicle Evaluation Test, the Dodge Charger Pursuit V-6 with its aluminum 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine delivers 292 horsepower and 260 lb.-ft. of torque, offers E-85 flex-fuel capability and up to 27 highway mpg.

With superior ride and handling, the Dodge Charger Pursuit features Chrysler Group’s second-generation large car rear-wheel-drive architecture with performance-tuned suspension, load-leveling NIVOMAT shocks, heavy-duty anti-lock vented-disc brakes (ABS), front- and rear-stabilizer bars, 18-inch performance tires on steel wheels and two-mode police-specific Electronic Stability Control (ESC).

Developed with the guidance of the brand’s Police Advisory Board, the Dodge Charger Pursuit features a mobile-command interior with unique features, including a Vehicle Systems Interface Module for easy equipment integration, heavy-duty police-duty front seats and column-mounted shifter with Auto Stick.

In addition to its Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) “Top Safety Pick,” the Dodge Charger Pursuit surrounds the heroic men and women who protect with uncompromising safety and security equipment, including standard advanced multi-stage driver and front-passenger air bags, seat-mounted side-thorax air bags, supplemental side-curtain air bags for front and rear outboard passengers and driver’s knee bag.

Mopar factory upfit packages provide customers with quality-tested equipment and hassle-free ordering and servicing
With six quality-tested and factory-installed police-equipment packages specifically designed for the 2013 Dodge Charger Pursuit, Dodge and Mopar have teamed up to offer law enforcement officers with the ability to customize their vehicle to their exact specifications right from the manufacturer.

To enhance Dodge Charger Pursuit’s world-class levels of technology, safety, handling and efficient power, Mopar teamed up with industry-equipment leader Crown North America to develop six police packages that are designed to provide law-enforcement officers with the best combination of tactical equipment and performance. These police-equipment packages feature emergency lighting, audible warning and communications and safety equipment. Industry-leading suppliers involved in the development include Whelen Engineering, Setina Manufacturing and Havis, Inc.

Mopar conducted extensive testing to ensure that its police upfit equipment met and exceeded the heavy-duty durability-cycle tests requirements of the Dodge Charger Pursuit.

The base police prep package for the 2013 Dodge Charger Pursuit includes the following:

Emergency equipment electrical system wire harness: Capable of providing the appropriate power, ground, and fusing for a variety LED, lighting, siren, computer, modem, radar or camera systems. The wire harness integrates with both the Vehicle Systems Interference Module (VSIM) 24-way connector and the 12-pin connector that Chrysler Group provides at the console
Power distribution center (PDC): Contains the fusing and relays for circuits contained in the wire harness. The PDC is supplied from the battery with two 100-amp main fuses. These fuses are separated in order to accommodate departments that wish to control some circuits with a timing device. For installers who want to use timer systems to prevent power drains on the battery, the PDC will accept the device’s output and channel it to the usual elements controlled by timers, including camera, computer, modem and printer systems
Slide-out trunk tray: Provides a stable, easily accessible platform from which the installer can position and install electrical equipment. The trunk tray provides a 37.5-inch by 19-inch mounting surface for electrical and communications gear. Locking slides provide the movement, allowing a technician easier access to equipment mounted to the tray. An industry-first integral ground buss bar helps eliminate poor grounding, the most common equipment issue. The tray is adjustable and allows for a variety of equipment heights and needs
Trunk air-circulation fan: Stabilizes trunk temperature in a relatively short period of time, helping all trunk-mounted electronic equipment to function properly by circulating heated or cooled air from the driver’s compartment into the trunk area
Siren speaker: Provides a 100-watt siren driver that is certified to meet SAE Class A and California Title XIII requirements when matched with an appropriate siren amplifier. Given that the system is mounted behind the grille, the look of the vehicle remains clean, while the siren location does not impact engine cooling

The 2013 Dodge Charger Pursuit’s available police-equipment packages include six quick-order package options:

Base Prep Police Package: includes front and rear wire harness, power distribution center, siren speaker with bracket, trunk tray and trunk cooling fan
Patrol Package 1: includes police floor console, front-corner LED lamps, rear-corner LED lamps, front and rear wire harness, power-distribution center, siren speaker with bracket, trunk tray and trunk cooling fan
Patrol Package 2: includes police floor console, push bumper, front and rear wire harness, power-distribution center, siren speaker and bracket, trunk tray and trunk cooling fan
Patrol Package 3: includes push bumper, police floor console, front corner LED lamps, rear corner LED lamps, front and rear wire harness, power distribution center, siren speaker with bracket, trunk tray and trunk accessory cooling fan
Slick Top Police Package 1: includes police floor console, front and rear wire harness, power-distribution center, siren speaker with bracket, trunk tray and trunk cooling fan
Slick Top Police Package 2: includes front-corner LED lamps, rear-corner LED lamps, front and rear wire harness, power distribution center, siren speaker with bracket, trunk tray and trunk cooling fan

Dodge Charger Pursuit to Offer Segment’s Most Advanced All-Wheel-Drive (AWD) System

Dodge Charger Pursuit to feature the most advanced all-wheel-drive (AWD) system in the segment, delivering maximum all-weather traction and fuel-efficiency

Segment-exclusive active transfer case and front-axle-disconnect system automatically enables AWD for slick conditions, while maintaining the outstanding performance and handling inherent in a rear-wheel- drive (RWD) architecture

Dodge Charger Pursuit AWD is based on the record-setting RWD model that set the fastest-ever lap time in Michigan State Police’s Vehicle Evaluation Test history (1:33.70)

September 13, 2012 , Auburn Hills, Mich. -

Dodge is turning up the heat in the police pursuit vehicle segment. In response to police fleet customer demand and with input from the Chrysler Group’s Police Advisory Board, the already well-received Dodge Charger Pursuit will offer an available all-wheel-drive (AWD) system with the 5.7-liter HEMI® V-8 engine.

“Adding available all-wheel-drive capability to the already popular Dodge Charger Pursuit will broaden the Charger’s appeal to police departments that are accustomed to dealing with rough winters and adverse weather conditions,” said Peter Grady, Vice President - Network Development & Fleet, Chrysler Group LLC. “With the Charger Pursuit now offering dual capability of both rear- and all-wheel-drive, we’ll be able to meet the needs of our police fleet customers across the country.”

The Dodge Charger’s AWD system features a segment-exclusive active transfer case and front-axle-disconnect system that better balances performance and fuel economy.

“The Dodge Charger offers the most sophisticated all-wheel-drive system in its class,” said Reid Bigland, President and CEO, Dodge Brand. “Only Charger offers a front-axle disconnect that seamlessly transitions from the outstanding performance and handling of rear-wheel drive to the all-weather traction of all-wheel drive, with class-leading fuel economy and iconic styling.”

Chrysler Group engineers have already started testing the Dodge Charger Pursuit with the AWD system. The vehicle will meet the police pursuit durability cycle set for RWD models that ensures the car can reliably handle the extreme conditions seen in police use. Police fleet customers will be able to start ordering the Dodge Charger Pursuit with AWD for the 2014 model year.
