Matt Hagan drove the DieHard Dodge Charger into second place in the Funny Car Countdown to the Championship standings by shutting down points leader John Force and the Castrol High Mileage Ford Mustang at today’s NHRA O’Reilly Super Start Batteries Fall Nationals at Texas Motorplex. Hagen’s final-round run of 4.155 seconds at 294.63 mph brought him within 25 points of Force who ran 4.491 seconds at 203.74 mph.

Allen Johnson and his Mopar Avenger were eliminated in the second round of the Pro Stock competition after setting a track record in the first round. Johnson, who has dropped from second to fourth in the points standings, is digging his way back from an alcohol-related disqualification last weekend.

In NASCAR competition, Justin Allgaier was the top Dodge finisher at Saturday’s Nationwide Series Dover 200: his No. 12 Verizon Wireless Charger was ninth across the line. Nationwide points leader Brad Keselowski in the No. 22 Ruby Tuesday Dodge was 17th but, with just seven races remaining, it’s looking like his 300-plus-point lead will see him through to the end of the season. Allgaier is fourth in the points race. The No. 81 MacDonald Motorsports Dodge driven by Michael McDowell was 28th and the last Dodge to cross the finish line. Derrick Cope in the No. 73 RagingBid.com Dodge had completed just 108 laps when he was forced out by an accident. Both K-Automotive Motorsports Dodges, Brian Keselowski’s No. 26 and Dennis Setzer’s No. 92, had to drop out early with mechanical problems.

In the Chase for the Sprint Cup, Kurt Busch and the No. 2 Miller Lite Dodge overcame a penalty for speeding on pit row to finish fourth in today’s AAA 400 at Dover International Speedway. Busch moved up to fourth in the standings, just 49 points behind leader Denny Hamlin. Brad Keselowski’s No. 12 Penske Racing Charger came in 22nd. None of the other Dodges qualifying for the racing were running at the end. Electrical problems forced the No. 77 Mobil 1 car driven by Sam Hornish Jr. off the track after 349 laps. Both Whitney Motorsports Dodges DNF’d: Michael McDowell’s No. 46 dropped out with brake problems after 71 laps and J.J. Yeley’s No. 81 car developed transmission problems and called it a day after 43 laps.

Jason White, driver of the No. 23 GunBroker.com/Mule Deer Foundation Dodge and currently tenth in the Camping World Truck Series standings, finished 14th in the Smith’s Food & Drug Stores 350 in Las Vegas. The only other Dodge in the event, Clay Greenfield’s No. 46 Team Gill Racing truck, crossed the finish line in 23rd place.

Daniels Awarded Mopar® HEMI® Challenge Win at Jegs Northern SPORTSnationals

Hebron, Ohio , Sep 26, 2010 -

In a fitting finish to a wild Mopar® HEMI® Challenge Race Series event at the Jegs Northern SPORTSnationals, Jim Daniels of Bristol, Pa. was awarded the event win after Jim Pancake failed a post-race technical inspection late last night.

Daniels was unable to stage for the final round at National Trail Raceway due to mechanical problems with his engine, giving Pancake a solo run in the final and—seemingly—the event win. However, when Pancake’s Super Stock/A HEMI (SS/AH) 1968 Dodge Dart failed post-race inspection hours after his Victory Lane celebration, Daniels was awarded the Mopar HEMI Challenge trophy and the $5,000 winner’s purse.

“This was not how I wanted to win it,” said Daniels, who drove his Ray Barton Racing Engines 1968 Dodge Dart past Stephen Herbert, Charlie Westcott Sr. and Gary Wolkwitz on his way into the final. “Jim runs a Ray Barton engine, so in essence he’s part of our team, and he’s also a great guy. I’ll take it, but I’ll remember my victory at Indy a lot more fondly.”

Daniels, the No. 2 qualifier of the event, earned his second-straight 2010 Mopar HEMI Challenge win, coming on the heels of his $10,000 victory at the Mac Tools U.S. Nationals on Labor Day Weekend. The triumph was also Daniels’ second straight at the Jegs Northern SPORTSnationals.

Charlie Westcott Jr. qualified No. 1 in his 1968 “Warfish” Barracuda with an 8.452-second pass but fell in a first-round battle with Larry Perkins Sr. Gary Wolkwitz, Tyler Hard and Charlie Westcott Sr. claimed the Nos. 3–5 spots, respectively, in qualifying.

The Mopar HEMI Challenge Race Series, which pits owners of SS/AH 1968 Dodge Darts and Plymouth Barracudas against each other in fierce quarter-mile competition, was formed in 2001 and celebrated its 10th anniversary season this year. The Jegs Northern SPORTSnationals marked the final of three 2010 Mopar HEMI Challenge events. For more info on the series, visit Mopar Speed - Home.

A complete list of Mopar accessories and performance parts is available at Mopar - Authentic Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and Ram Accessories, Service & Parts.

More than 70 Years of Mopar
When Chrysler bought Dodge in 1928, the need for a dedicated parts manufacturer, supplier and distribution system to support the growing enterprise led to the formation of the Chrysler Motor Parts Corporation (CMPC) in 1929.

Mopar (a simple contraction of the words MOtor and PARts) was trademarked for a line of antifreeze products in 1937. It also was widely used as a moniker for the CMPC. The Mopar brand made its mark in the 1960s—the muscle-car era. The Chrysler Corporation built race-ready Dodge and Plymouth “package cars” equipped with special high-performance parts. Mopar carried a line of “special parts” for super-stock drag racers and developed its racing parts division called Mopar Performance Parts to enhance speed and handling for both road and racing use.
