Harley-Davidson to use Arizona Proving Grounds

Harley-Davidson to use Arizona Proving Grounds
Posted Monday, Oct 27, 2008 at 4:14 pm in Company News

Chrysler LLC finalized an agreement last month that enables Harley-Davidson Motor Co. to use parts of the Arizona Proving Grounds to test its iconic motorcycles. Under the agreement, Harley-Davidson will occupy three existing buildings at the proving grounds in Yucca, Ariz. The deal allows Harley also to use various tracks at the facility to test its current and future motorcycles.

Chrysler officials said they will work closely with Harley-Davidson to coordinate the use of tracks and other facilities at the proving grounds. The deal goes into effect July 1, 2009. The terms of the agreement are confidential.

The Arizona Proving Grounds is an approximately 3,650-acre vehicle-testing facility located outside of Yucca. Chrysler moved its Arizona testing facility to Yucca last year after it sold its Wittman, Ariz., facility to a major national residential home developer. The Yucca facility previously belonged to Ford Motor Co. prior to Chrysler’s purchase.

The Arizona facility consists of a 5-mile high-speed banked-oval track, an 18-acre vehicle dynamics area, ABS testing facility, water-ingestion area, dust-ingestion testing area, corrosion chambers, rain rooms, special test roads and surfaces for vehicle durability testing, and other testing operations.

In July 2009 will Chrysler even be around?
