Chrysler Group's 2011 Retail Sales, Market Share Grew in Every State

March 27, 2012

Chrysler Group LLC enjoyed a gain in retail sales and market share in every state of the union during 2011.

Even more remarkable, the increase in retail sales was 30% or higher in 46 of the 50 states.

“We’re seeing the kind of growth that transcends geography and demographics in our showroom,” noted David Kelleher, chairman of the Chrysler Group National Dealer Council and dealer principal at David Dodge Chrysler Jeep in Glen Mills, Pa.

“This universal acceptance of our product stems from the quality of our vehicles and the reception our products are getting from third parties.”

In digging into our retail numbers, final 2011 registration data from R.L. Polk & Co. shows that Chrysler Group’s retail sales grew 42% last year, and that Chrysler Group sales were up in all 50 states.

The state-by-state Polk data reveals the magnitude of Chrysler Group’s increase in 2011. Of the 46 states with retail sales increases of 30% or higher:

35 of them had increases of at least 40%, and
in 11 states, the sales gain was more than 50%.

The 10 states logging the largest year-over-year percentage gains in retail sales during 2011 were, in descending order

North Dakota
New York
New Jersey

“We outperformed the market in 2011 and we are continuing on that path in 2012. Our product lineup is resonating with consumers who demand style, quality, innovation, and fuel-efficiency in their vehicle purchases,” added Dodge Brand President/CEO and Head of U.S. Sales Reid Bigland.

To put Chrysler Group’s sizeable increase into perspective, the company’s retail sales increase in 2011 followed a year in which its retail sales declined in 26 states and it lost share in all but four states.

What a difference a year can make -- and a revitalized line up of 16 all-new and significantly-refreshed models. Chrysler Group’s increase in retail sales was accompanied in 2011 by a surge in market share. The company’s market share grew in every state during 2011 compared with its share in 2010.

In 28 of 50 states, Chrysler Group’s share of retail sales grew by at least 2 percentage points last year. In two of those 28 states – Alaska and Colorado – the share increase was 3.1 percentage points each.
