FCA US LLC today reported U.S. sales of 202,227 units, a 4 percent increase compared with sales in May 2014 (194,421 units), and the group’s best May sales since 2005.

The Chrysler, Jeep ® and Ram Truck brands each posted year-over-year sales gains in May compared with the same month a year ago. The Chrysler brand’s 32 percent increase was the largest sales gain of any FCA US brand during the month. The group extended its streak of year-over-year sales gains to 62-consecutive months.


“Our Jeep brand continues to set records with its best monthly sales ever in May, helping us to achieve our 62nd-consecutive month of year-over-year sales increases,” said Reid Bigland, Head of U.S. Sales. “Despite one less industry selling day this May versus a year ago, we posted a 4 percent sales gain and exceeded the 200,000-unit threshold for the first time since March 2007.”

Seven FCA US vehicles set records in the month of May, including the Chrysler 200 which recorded its best monthly sales ever. Sales of the 200 were up 537 percent in May compared with the same month a year ago. The new 200 had the largest percentage increase of any FCA US vehicle in May. Likewise, the all-new Jeep Cherokee and Jeep Wrangler, and the Dodge Challenger each posted their best monthly sales ever. In addition, the Jeep Patriot, Ram ProMaster van, and Dodge Dart logged their best sales in the month of May.

FCA US finished the month of May with a 69-day supply of inventory (540,509 units). U.S. industry sales figures for May are internally projected at an estimated 17.9 million units Seasonally Adjusted Annual Rate (SAAR).

Chrysler Brand

Chrysler brand sales were up 32 percent, the brand’s best May sales since 2008 and its 11th-consecutive month of year-over-year sales gains. Sales of the Chrysler 200 increased 537 percent in May, the mid-size sedan’s best monthly sales ever and the largest year-over-year percentage gain of any FCA US vehicle in the month. It was the ninth-consecutive month that the 200 logged record sales, topping its previous all-time monthly record in March of this year.

Jeep® Brand
Jeep brand sales increased 13 percent, the brand’s best monthly sales ever and its 20th-consecutive month of year-over-year sales gains. The Jeep brand has set a sales record in each month dating back to November 2013. Three Jeep brand vehicles set records in May. The Cherokee and Wrangler each recorded their best sales months ever, while the Patriot logged its best sales in the month of May. With its 16 percent increase, the Wrangler topped 20,000 units for the first time. The Patriot’s 31 percent year-over-year increase was the largest sales percentage gain of any Jeep brand model for the month. The all-new Jeep Renegade, the most capable small sport utility vehicle (SUV), had sales of 4,416 units in its second full month of sales, up 5 percent compared with sales in the previous month of April. The Renegade in May was selected by Kelley Blue Book’s KBB.com (Kelley Blue Book - New & Used Car Price Values) for its annual list of the “10 Coolest New Cars Under $18,000.” The Jeep Grand Cherokee had its best May sales since the year 2000.

Ram Truck Brand
Ram Truck brand sales, which include the Ram pickup truck, Ram ProMaster, Ram ProMaster City, and Ram Cargo Van, were up 12 percent, the brand’s best May sales since 2005. Sales of the Ram pickup truck increased 8 percent in May, the pickup’s best May sales in 11 years. Sales of the Ram ProMaster van increased 146 percent, its best May sales since the full-size van was launched in October 2013.

FIAT Brand
Sales of the all-new 2016 Fiat 500X began in May as the first vehicles began to arrive in FIAT studios. The 500X combines iconic Italian style with functionality, performance and available all-wheel-drive confidence. The vehicle is available in five trim levels. The base Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) for the 2016 Fiat 500X starts at $20,000 (excluding a destination charge of $900). FIAT brand sales, which include the Fiat 500 and 500L, were down 19 percent in May, compared with the same month a year ago. The 500 was selected in May by Kelley Blue Book’s KBB.com as one of its “10 Coolest New Cars Under $18,000.”

Dodge Brand
Sales of the Challenger increased 29 percent in May, the muscle car’s best monthly sales ever. Dart sales were up slightly year-over-year as the compact sedan posted its best ever sales in the month of May. Dodge Durango sales edged up slightly for its best May sales since 2005. Dodge brand sales were down 22 percent in May, compared with the same month a year ago, due in large part to model changeover at the Windsor Assembly Plant in Windsor, Ontario, where the Dodge Grand Caravan and Chrysler Town & Country are built. The plant resumed production of Grand Caravans in late May.

FCA Canada Inc. today reported May 2015 sales of 31,617, compared with 31,498 in May 2014. These results mark the best sales month in the 90-year history of the Company.

“Posting an all-time record sales month while dealing with temporary constraints on some of our highest selling products proves just how diversified and strong our product portfolio has become,” said Dave Buckingham, Chief Operating Officer, FCA Canada. “With a $2 billion investment in the new minivan program and the retooling of the Windsor Assembly Plant now complete, our employees are back to building Canada’s best-selling minivans – Dodge Grand Caravan and Chrysler Town & Country, which makes us very optimistic of our sales outlook at FCA Canada.”

Sales Highlights:

The Jeep brand posted its best monthly sales ever with 9,527 units sold, marking its 15th month of consecutive year-over year sales gains. Two Jeep brand products set sales records in May. Jeep Cherokee experienced its best month of sales ever with 3,312 copies sold, marking an increase of 50 per cent over 2,208 units sold in May of 2014. With a 7 per cent increase in year-over-year results, 1,426 Jeep Grand Cherokee sales led to a monthly record for Canada’s best-selling full-size SUV.

May 2015 sales represented an all-time record for the Ram brand with 10,040 trucks sold. Truck customers, from half-ton to commercial, have a demanding range of needs and require their vehicles to provide high levels of capability. Ram trucks are designed to deliver a total package. Looking specifically at Ram pickup truck sales within the full Ram brand line-up, there were 9,418 sold in May 2015, compared with 9,074 trucks sold in May 2014. These results represent a 4 per cent year-over-year increase and mark an all-time sales record.

FCA Canada Passenger car sales continue to resonate with consumers, as evidenced with an increase of 15 per cent in year-over year results, with 4,688 units sold in May of 2015, compared with 4,081 sold in the same month, one year prior. Leading the pack is the Chrysler 200, which offers a fuel economy as good as 6.4L/100km (44 MPG). In May of 2015, there were 1,398 Chrysler 200 sedans sold, an increase of 42 per cent over 986 sold in May of 2014. The Canadian-made Dodge Challenger, a vehicle unafraid to bend the rules to give its customers exactly what they want, set a May sales record with 566 units sold, an increase of 177 per cent over 204 sold in May of 2014.

FCA México today reported its fifth consecutive month of sales gains with 7,468 units, an 8 percent increase compared with sales in May 2014.

These vehicles offer all these attributes in addition to new technology,” said Bruno Cattori, President & CEO of FCA México. “These vehicles are joining our product offensive, which we have been presenting since the first months of 2015.”

Alfa Romeo Brand

Alfa Romeo brand continues to gain momentum on the Mexican market with sales of 24 units; best May in its history. The 2015 Alfa Romeo range offers the exclusive D.N.A. system, allowing the driver three handling types.

2015 Alfa Romeo Giullietta posted its best sales month in its history. Alfa Romeo Giulietta Quadrifloglio Verde characteristics are: a redesigned interior, a Uconnect system with multimedia services and a 5” touchscreen.

Alfa Romeo MiTo also reported its best May ever.

Chrysler Brand

Chrysler brand sales surged 23 percent with 340 units sold. Chrysler 200 reported sales of 117 units. This vehicle offers the perfect combination of style and technology, as well as safety and security features, typically found on luxury vehicles.

After six decades, the Chrysler 300C takes the nameplate’s style and sophistication to new levels. Last month, it reported its best May since 2007.

Dodge Brand

Dodge brand registered total sales of 2,020 units. Among the top sellers of this brand are the Dodge Journey and Dodge Attitude, with 845 and 836 units sold, respectively. The Dodge Attitude posted its best May since 2007. Dodge Challenger sales increased 8 percent; best May sales since its launch. This vehicle is now available in the SRT version, which offers 707 hp. Dodge Charger sales reached a 5 percent increase during May 2015.

FIAT Brand
Fiat brand achieved a sales increase of 19 percent, with 673 units. Fiat Cinquecento continues its strong pace with 328 units sold in May 2015. Fiat Uno sold 221 units.

Jeep® Brand
During May, Jeep brand sales were of 1,646 units. The legendary Jeep Wrangler set a new May sales record by posting sales of 246 units, an increase of 25 percent over May 2014; best May since its launch. Jeep Grand Cherokee continues its positive sales trend with 402 units, while the Jeep Cherokee reported sales of 366 units during May 2015.

Mitsubishi Motors
Mitsubishi Motors Mexico posted 11 consecutive months of double-digit sales gains in May. Its best May since 2010, Mitsubishi Motors Mexico sales were up 18 percent, with 1,064 units sold. Results were led by the all-new Mitsubishi Mirage with 397 units. Mitsubishi Outlander and Mitsubishi Montero contributed to the positive streak with 44 percent and 76 percent increases, respectively. Mitsubishi Motors Mexico sold more than 6,000 units, a 51 percent year-over-year sales increase compared with the same period in 2014.

Ram Truck Brand
Ram brand sales were 124 percent higher than a year ago, with 1,701 units; best May since 2009. Ram 700 reported its best sales month ever with 625 units. Ram ProMaster reported sales of 180 units during May 2015. Also recording positive sales results was the Ram 4000, with a 7 percent sales increase.

In May, FCA posted a 9% increase in passenger car sales in Europe, outpacing the industry for the fifth consecutive month. The Group was leader in the European A segment for the 29th consecutive month, with the Fiat Panda and Fiat 500 accounting for a combined 29.5% share. The Fiat 500L ranked first in the Small MPV segment for the month with a 24.1% share. The Fiat 500X and Jeep Renegade have also established themselves among the best selling models in the Small SUV segment. The Fiat brand outperformed the industry for the third consecutive month, with a significant contribution from the 500X. On the back of the sales performance of the Renegade, the Jeep brand registered its 19th consecutive monthly increase in Europe, with percentage sales growth well above the industry average in each of the major markets.

The European passenger car market (EU28+EFTA) continued the year’s positive trend, although below previous levels. New vehicle registrations were up 1.4% for the month, to 1,152,000 vehicles, and 6.7% for the year-to-date, to more than 6,000,000 vehicles.

FCA outperformed the industry average for the fifth month running, with May sales increasing 9.0% year-over-year to more than 78,000 vehicles. European market share was 6.8%, compared with 6.3% in May a year ago and 6.5% in April 2015.

The Group outpaced the industry in several major markets, with sales up 13.4% year-over-year in Italy (+10.8% for the industry), 3.4% in France (-3.5% for the industry), 4.4% in the UK (+2.4% for the industry) and 19.4% in Spain (+13.9% for the industry).

Year-to-date, sales were up 11.5% to more than 385,000 vehicles (also significantly higher than the industry average) and share was 30 basis points higher at 6.4%.

Fiat brand outpaced the industry for the third consecutive month, with May sales up 7.1% year- over-year to nearly 59,000 vehicles and share increasing 30 basis points to 5.1%. The brand’s May sales increased 13.1% year-over-year in Italy, 10.3% in France and 20.0% in Spain, outperforming the industry in all three markets.

For the year-to-date, the brand’s European sales were up 8.4% to nearly 290,000 vehicles, with share stable at 4.8%.

The brand posted its 29th consecutive month as leader in the European A segment, with the Panda and 500 accounting for a combined 29.5% share. The Panda was the top selling A-segment vehicle with nearly 15,200 units sold in May (just a few dozen ahead of the 500) and nearly 77,100 sold for the year-to-date, an 11.5% increase over the first five months of 2014. Sales of the 500 were up 3.1% for the year-to-date to more than 81,100 vehicles.

The 500L family registered its eighth consecutive month as leader in the Small MPV segment, with May sales of nearly 7,900 vehicles and segment share at 24.1%. The 500X ranked among the top ten in the Small SUV segment with 5,700 vehicles sold during the month.

Lancia/Chrysler posted May sales of nearly 5,700 vehicles, accounting for a 0.5% share of the market. For the year-to-date, sales totaled 29,600 units and market share was 0.5%. The brand posted a particularly strong result in Germany, with sales up 8.0% over May a year ago compared with a
6.7% decrease for the market.

For the Lancia Ypsilon, sales in Italy were up 10.7% year-over-year and segment share was 13.0%.

Alfa Romeo closed May with nearly 5,600 vehicles sold (+0.4% year-over-year) and European market share stable at 0.5%. Year-to-date, brand sales totaled nearly 25,500 vehicles with share at 0.4%.

The brand posted May sales increases in Austria (+20.0%), Italy (+6.0%) and the UK (+3.0%). For the year-to-date, brand sales were up 12.5% in Austria and 4.2% in Italy. For the Giulietta, May sales were up 8.5% over the prior year.

Jeep extended its streak of year-over-year sales increases to 19 consecutive months. The brand’s May sales were up 134.2% to more than 7,500 vehicles, representing the highest percentage increase of any brand in Europe, and market share more than doubled, increasing to 0.7% from
0.3% one year ago.

Year-to-date, sales were up 173.6% to nearly 36,500 vehicles, compared with 13,300 for the first five months in 2014. Market share was 40 basis points higher at 0.6%.

The brand significantly outperformed the industry average in each of the five major European markets. May sales were up 183.9% year-over-year in Italy, 46.4% in Germany, 363.1% in France, 210.6% in the UK, and 217.9% in Spain.

Sales of the Cherokee were up 4.85% year-over-year and, at the end of May, Jeep introduced the 2.2L MultiJet II turbo-diesel option with 9-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel-drive. The biggest contribution came from the Jeep Renegade, already among the top ten in its segment, with May sales of just under 5,000 vehicles.

For Ferrari and Maserati, the Group’s luxury brands, European sales totaled 857 vehicles in May and 4,062 vehicles for the year-to-date.
