Mopar® Hits the Trails
Mopar® Hits the Trails at Moab Jeep® Safari 2009 with Six Customized Mopar Vehicles
Moab, Utah , Apr 7, 2009 -
Mopar® showcased six Mopar customized Jeep® vehicles and Dodge trucks today at the 43rd annual Moab Jeep Safari 2009.
“Mopar outfitted six vehicles for Moab Jeep Safari to gauge our core off-road enthusiasts’ consumer feedback and reaction,” said Jim Sassorossi, Director—Mopar Global Parts Sales and Marketing, Chrysler LLC. “We wanted our core off-road customers to talk about their vehicle usage so we can address their unmet needs and identify emerging product trends to better support their off-road adventures.”
This annual trek to Moab also provides an ideal opportunity for Mopar to highlight its expanding collection of Jeep and Dodge truck part offerings, which are now available for purchase at local Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge dealers located across the United States.
“Mopar is also at Moab to debut the brand’s new off-road performance parts that are being considered for release, and to prove the authenticity of additional Mopar Performance Parts for Jeep vehicles and Dodge trucks on the most grueling off-road trails,” Sassorossi said.
Mopar is the source for all of Chrysler LLC’s original equipment parts for Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge vehicles. The following is an overview of the six vehicles upfitted by Mopar:
2007 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon by Mopar
The 2007 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon offers the latest in Authentic Jeep Accessories and Performance Parts from Mopar. This vehicle showcases the new 2-inch lift kits now available for 2007-2009 model year two-door and four-door model Jeep Wrangler vehicles. Most moderate Jeep Wrangler lifts use coil spring spacers with the factory coil springs. However, Mopar’s replacement coil spring lift allows as much suspension articulation as most 4-inch lift kits, resulting in increased performance with minimal impact on vehicle center-of-gravity. Also new, Mopar’s 2-inch lift kit is covered by a Mopar Performance first Limited Lifetime Warranty. Other interior enhancements include Katzkin by Mopar leather seats, a rugged floor liner and a silver appliqué interior kit to personalize the vehicle. The exterior boasts corner guards, a Mopar hood, front bumper, hard top kit, rock rails, chrome grille and black fuel-filler door, as well as a snorkel and winch.
2009 Dodge Ram Quad Cab® “Big Red” by Mopar
The all-new 2009 Dodge Ram 1500 is equipped with the latest Mopar Accessories and Performance Parts. Mopar is expanding its off-road performance line to include Dodge trucks with a new 4-inch lift kit and other accessories to bring factory-tested lift kits to off-road consumers. The new 4-inch lift kit requires a minimum 18-inch wheel and allows for up to 37-inch tires. Mopar components added to the vehicle include a Cat-Back™ exhaust system and cold air intake to provide a “throatier” exhaust note and increase horsepower. This vehicle also showcases 37-inch 1250 R20 BF Goodrich all-terrain tires which are available through the tire program at local Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge dealers nationwide. Dodge Accessories including a tonneau cover, front hood with integrated scoop and bezels, front tow hook kit and transfer case skid plate work together to provide function and convenience on the ultimate Dodge Ram 1500.
2009 Jeep Wrangler X by Mopar
Starting with a production 4-door Jeep Wrangler, added Mopar components, including a Cat-Back exhaust system and cold air intake, allow the engine to breathe easy. Jeep Performance front and rear Dana 44 axles were also added along with a 4-inch lift kit to deliver moderate lift and maximum performance. Interior accessories by Mopar include a Trail Guide Portable Navigation System, ambient lighting, and Katzkin by Mopar leather seats featuring the Jeep logo. A RER navigation radio works with a Mopar Kicker audio system complete with an amplifier, 200-watt subwoofer and two-way dash speakers for premium sound. In addition a heated seat kit, black door sill guards, a carbon fiber design interior trim appliqué, front and rear slush floor mats, grab handles and a coat hook complete the interior upgrades. The vehicle ride is heightened by Rock Monster Wheels, a Warn 9.5ti XP winch and a front axle skid plate. Exterior products include a front off-road bumper, a v-style hood cover, rock rails, a soft top boot, sun bonnet, black tail lamp guards and matching black fuel filler door. Additionally, a rear off-road bumper, rear bumper tire carrier, windshield mounted lamps, fog lamps, front tow hooks, windshield lamps bracket, lamp harness kit, hitch cover, hood lock and Jeep emblem complete the off-road package.
2009 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon by Mopar
Mopar utilized the 2009 Jeep Wrangler 4-door Rubicon as a “development mule” to test a 4-inch short arm lift kit, currently under development. In addition to the lift kit; this vehicle is equipped with 37-inch tires, concept premium vinyl interior by Automotive Trim Technologies and rugged floor covering. The exterior boasts black grille throats; a-pillar mounted off road lamps, black fuel door and black taillight guards.
SJ “Mopar Madness”
This vehicle was fabricated by current and retired Chrysler LLC Jeep engineers from a rust-free vehicle from Oregon. Following the Chrysler LLC slogan, “If You Can Dream It, We Can Build It,” this 1978 Cherokee Chief is upgraded with Jeep Performance Parts by Mopar and features a 6.1-liter HEMI® engine, Mopar Reman 545 transmission and Jeep Wrangler Rubicon Rock-Trac® 4- to-1 transfer case. The Mopar Madness is supported by a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon front and rear axle, a Jeep Wrangler 4.5-inch long arm suspension kit and new design Goodyear MT/R 37-inch tires. The interior showcases Mopar gauges and Katzkin by Mopar leather seat upgrades complete with a Mopar Kicker audio system.
Following up on Mopar’s announcement last year that it would investigate adding a stroker motor to its portfolio, this Jeep Cherokee showcases the ATK 4.7-liter Stroker motor that Mopar will launch for Jeep applications starting in September 2009. Currently, Mopar offers lift kits for past model year pre-Jeep Wrangler, Jeep Wrangler and Jeep Cherokee vehicles. The XJ Stroker features a 2.5-inch lift kit, which can support 31-inch tires and a 2.5-inch suspension kit.
More than 70 Years of Mopar
When Chrysler bought Dodge in 1928, the need for a dedicated parts manufacturer, supplier and distribution system to support the growing enterprise led to the formation of the Chrysler Motor Parts Corporation (CMPC) in 1929.
Mopar (a simple contraction of the words MOtor and PARts) was trademarked for a line of antifreeze products in 1937. It also was widely used as a moniker for the CMPC. The Mopar brand made its mark in the 1960’s–the muscle car era. The Chrysler Corporation built race-ready Dodge and Plymouth “package cars” equipped with special high-performance parts. Mopar carried a line of “special parts” for super stock drag racers and developed its racing parts division called Mopar Performance Parts to enhance speed and handling for both road and racing use.
Today, Chrysler LLC’s Parts division is responsible for the distribution of nearly 350,000 authentic Mopar replacement parts, components and accessories for Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge vehicles sold around the world. To assure quality, reliability and durability, all Mopar parts and accessories are designed in strict adherence to Chrysler engineering standards.
