FROM THE DODGE ENGINEER:
" "It's seems like culture shock to go from 95 mph average laps at Martinsville one week to nearly 195 mph average laps at Texas the next week, but the series does it twice a year, every year. Engineering problems like managing brake heat at Martinsville certainly won't be an issue at Texas where drivers are at wide-open throttle for about 22 of the 30 seconds it takes to make one lap. And even with that much wide-open throttle time in a lap at Texas, engineers still won't be working on wide-open throttle issues. They will be focused on how they can whittle down those other eight seconds where the driver can't go flat out. Handling in the very fast corners of Texas will trump everything else and the race will be won there."
Howard Comstock, Dodge Engineering

DODGE MOTORSPORTS QUOTE OF THE WEEK
“We put ourselves in position to have a great day at Martinsville on Sunday, but that wasn’t in the cards. That’s what happens late in a race on a short track. We took a hit in the points, but this team has been the underdog all year long. We’re not going to stop doing the things that put us in this position. Twenty-seven points is not insurmountable. We’re going to need a little help, but there are guys that are due to have something go wrong over these last three races. At the end of the day, we have speed in our cars and that will win out more often than not.” Brad Keselowski, No. 2 Miller Lite Dodge Charger R/T

DODGE DRIVER QUOTES
“I made the comment to my guys before Sunday’s race at Martinsville that we’re on a mission to get back up there solidly in the top-five in the points by the end of the season. We got caught up in the crash at Talladega and that cost us our shot at the championship. I feel like we are a top-five caliber team and we deserve to finish up there in the top-five. We just have to get out there and execute like we know we are capable of doing and achieve that goal.”
Kurt Busch, No. 22 AAA Dodge Charger R/T

“I don’t have to tell you how much we are looking forward to this weekend’s race. We’ll have one of Kurt’s best cars – already a race-winner – at one of Kurt’s favorite race tracks. It doesn’t get any better than that. We have three races left and I feel like we can go win all three of them. Texas is first in line and we’re coming in there with a lot of confidence that we can get it done. With us fielding the AAA Dodge in the AAA Texas 500, there’ll be a heckuva party there in Victory Lane when Kurt takes the checkered flag, that’s for sure.”
Steve Addington, crew chief No. 22 AAA Dodge Charger R/T

“Texas really is a unique racetrack and a unique layout. From above it looks like any normal 1.5-mile track, but the transitions into and off of the corners are quite a bit different than Charlotte, Las Vegas or any of the other mile-and-a-halfs. There is a lot of banking into the corners, which means you can carry a lot of speed in and to the center of the turns, but you lose that speed on exit as the track flattens out. It’s difficult because normally you can carry the same amount of grip and speed on both corner entry and corner exit. You have to adjust accordingly and sometimes that’s hard to do at 180 miles per hour. It’s easy to find yourself in trouble, especially off of Turn 2.”
Brad Keselowski, No. 2 Miller Lite Dodge Charger R/T

“Texas is a place with a lot of unique characteristics. The track has bumps in Turn 2 and has aged to where grip becomes a big factor late into a run. We want to set the car up to run the bottom of the track, but yet, still have the flexibility to run various lines through the corners. This is a new car for us this weekend – a new specification that we’ve developed at Penske Racing. We’ve rolled out several new cars during the Chase and have been very happy with their performance. Brad has shown that he knows how to get around these 1.5-mile tracks and I think we’ll have a solid weekend at Texas.”
Paul Wolfe, crew chief, No. 2 Miller Lite Dodge Charger R/T

DODGE AT TEXAS MOTOR SPEEDWAY
• Dodge has two Nationwide Series wins at Texas: Kasey Kahne (2005 spring) and Kurt Busch (2006 spring).
• Dodge has one pole at TMS: Ryan Newman (2005 fall).
• Dodge has 10 top-five and 13 top-10 finishes at Texas.
• Chad Blount scored the first top five for Dodge at Texas, finishing fifth in the 2003 spring race.

DODGE IN THE NASCAR NATIONWIDE SERIES
• Dodge is fielding two entries in the Nationwide Series this season with Penske Racing. Sam Hornish Jr. joins Brad Keselowski for a limited schedule. Hornish will make his 11th Nationwide start of the year at Texas and will compete in the final three Nationwide races this year.
• Dodge has 39 wins in the Nationwide Series, seven coming in the 2010 season.

BRAD KESELOWSKI ON TEXAS MOTOR SPEEDWAY: “Texas is an extremely fast track in any kind of car, but no stock car gives you the sensation of speed that the Nationwide Series car does. It actually feels faster than a Cup car. You enter Turn 1 at around 190-195 mph, depending on whether you are in race trim or qualifying trim. If your car is handling the way it needs to, you’ll go through that corner without lifting, or barely lifting, out of the throttle. You’re on the edge the entire lap and if you don’t hit your marks, you can easily end up in the wall. I’m excited about the car we’re bringing and I think we can run up front and contend for the win.”

SAM SAYS
“I always love going to Texas. The guys in the shop have been working hard over these last two off weeks to build me a great car, so hopefully I can bring home a solid finish. This weekend is even more exciting because we are bringing Avis on board the No. 12 Penske Racing Dodge Challenger as a sponsor.”
Sam Hornish Jr., driver, No. 12 AVIS Dodge Challenger R/T

Dodge Motosports Notes & Quotes - Kurt Busch Open Interview - Texas 2
November 4, 2011 , FORT WORTH - Friday, Nov. 4, 2011

DODGE MOTORSPORTS PR
Texas Motor Speedway
AAA Texas 500
Kurt Busch Open Interview
NASCAR Sprint Cup Series

KURT BUSCH (No. 22 AAA Dodge Charger R/T) HOW WAS YOUR CAR IN THE FIRST PRACTICE? “The car is good. The AAA Dodge is fast. We have a shot at the pole and we’re going to go for it. We’ll loosen it up and let the rough edges drag.”

HOW MUCH DOES THIS TRACK CHANGE AS THE RACE GOES FROM DAY TO NIGHT? “The cooler the track conditions, the faster speeds. When this place gets about 80 degrees, it’s slick. We won’t have those conditions this weekend so you really gear up for a lot of speed.”

WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON PHOENIX NEXT WEEKEND? IS IT A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT TRACK WITH THE REPAVE? “It’s a totally different track. There’s only going to be one groove. It won’t be very wide. Restarts will be treacherous.”

WHO DO YOU CONSIDER TO BE STILL IN THE HUNT FOR THE CHAMPIONSHIP? “The top four guys, they’ve separated themselves. (Brad) Keselowski’s still living the dream and we’re rooting for him. Like at Martinsville last week, any chance to help him we will and we’ll continue to.”

IS IT A ‘CHIPS ALL-IN” MINDSET RIGHT NOW FOR THE 22 TEAM? “Yeah. It’s just let it rip. We’ve had a good season. A couple chances to go to victory lane of late and we just didn’t get it done. We want to do that these last three races. Texas is a great race for me. We’ll see how Phoenix shakes out. It will be a ‘fill the tank up with gas at the end and ride it to the end’ with how the tires are not wearing out at Phoenix. And then Homestead, the final race of the year, it’s a lot of fun to go and finish off the season on a 1.5-mile track. The way that 2011 went for us, it will be a great year.”

ARE YOU ABLE TO START WORKING ON SETUPS FOR NEXT YEAR? “Yeah. We’ll go to Homestead with a new package, try to fool around with it and see if we can strike gold.”

Kevin Harvick won the NASCAR Truck Series race Friday night at Texas after his championship-contending truck driven by Ron Hornaday Jr. was knocked out of the race by a retaliating Kyle Busch.

Busch and Hornaday made contact when trying to go three-wide around a slower truck driven by Johnny Chapman, who was on the inside. Hornaday ended up in the middle and made contact with Busch when they got loose, then both brushed the wall before the caution flag came out.

“I think Kyle definitely showed his immaturity, and why he’s just one of those guys that just can’t stand to lose, and just a poor loser,” Harvick said. “Unfortunate for Ron. It’s too bad that a guy over here trying to win races got in the middle of the championship fight. At some point, he’ll feel the pain.”

Busch got behind Hornaday, and kept pushing until the No. 33 truck wound up in the wall. Busch’s truck also was damaged heavily, and NASCAR parked him for the race with possibly more penalties to come.

“This is just stupid,” Hornaday said. “He knew I was there. … He just drove me into the fence.”

Dodge Motorsports Notes & Quotes - NSCS Final Qualifying - Texas 2

Post-Qualifying Quotes

BRAD KESELOWSKI (No. 2 Miller Lite Dodge Charger R/T) Qualified 8th
"It was a pretty good lap for the Miller Lite Dodge. I've never been a good qualifier here, but I think we may get a top 10 or top 15 out of that run. We picked up about three tenths from practice and the car seems very balanced. I think that we have something to work with for Sunday."

IS THE TENDANCY TO TRY AND MAKE UP THE 27-POINT DEFICIT IN ONE RACE? “Sure it is. It's hard to gain a lot of points in one race, so you have to be patient. You can't win the championship in one race, but you sure can lose it."

KURT BUSCH (No. 22 AAA Dodge Charger R/T) Qualified 14th
"I think that we have a fast AAA Dodge for Sunday. We were just a touch loose and I was late getting back to the throttle."

REED SORENSON (No. 7 SPEED/MAPEI Energy Dodge Charger R/T) DNQ
“It’s been a handful all day with this SPEED Energy Dodge. The car has been really loose. We made big, big changes that made the car better. It’s almost like we needed to start like that to be where we are at for qualifying. We’ve just been too loose. We can’t get any grip in the back of the car. The front of the car seems to be OK. We just haven’t found that total balance yet.”

Brad Keselowski Open Interview

NASCAR Sprint Cup Series

BRAD KESELOWSKI (No. 2 Miller Lite Dodge Charger R/T) HOW’S YOUR CAR? “I was a little nervous about our qualifying effort so we spent a lot of time on it today with the Miller Lite Dodge Charger and had a decent turnout in qualifying. I feel like the Roush cars were very, very fast in qualifying trim. They’ve got a great package for that. Hopefully, the race plays out that our car will come to us. I think that we have very good long-run cars and I’m excited to see how the race plays out.”

WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THE JAWING BETWEEN THE 14 AND THE 99? “I’m on the page of Jimmie Johnson. They keep jawing and just let us right back in it. That would be great.”

ARE YOU STILL BURNED AT LAST WEEK’S FINISH AT MARTINSVILLE? “Yes and no. There’s not a lot that I felt that we could do differently. We had a great race. It’s very frustrating to know that we did all the right things and weren’t rewarded. It’s got to come around. We’ve had great cars throughout this whole Chase. We might not be the fastest cars every week, but we’ve done a great job and I feel like we deserve to be either first or second in the points. If it wasn’t for the piece of rubber flying up underneath the car at Dover or the late incident at Martinsville, we’d be there. It’s just circumstances out of our control that has put us to third, not our own efforts. You know what, I’m OK with that. That’s just the breaks sometimes. I’m just really proud of the team to have cars and the effort to get that done.”

DID YOU SEE ANY PART OF THE WRECK? “I didn’t see it, but I knew that it was coming. I was hoping that I could get in front of it before it happened.”

WERE YOU SURPRISED THAT THE CAUTION DIDN’T COME OUT AFTER YOU SPUN? “No. Hell no. I don’t think the yellow should have come out for that. I would have been disappointed if I was NASCAR or if I was another driver and they threw another yellow for that. I kind of stick up for NASCAR for that. The only thing that I was disappointed with is that the 83 car didn’t get parked about 250 laps before that because the sequence of events that he started with his retaliation, or attempts at it, is what caused our problems. That was not fair to my team or the fans or even Jimmie Johnson who should have won the race.”

DO YOU FEEL LIKE YOUR APPROACH CHANGED AT THAT POINT? WOULD YOU APPROACH THIS ANY DIFFERENTLY IF YOUR WERE ONLY 12 POINTS OUT OF THE LEAD? “Nope, not at all. I’m not approaching the weekend any differently. I don’t think anyone on my team is. You can get desperate and do desperate things; I think that would be a disservice to our team. I think that it would be a disservice to the efforts that we’ve put in. I’m just banking on guys like Carl (Edwards) that have made a lot of deposits out of the luck bank and eventually it’s got to come back to him. And when it does, we’ll be there and we’ll be ready.”
