• Busch swept both Bristol races in 2003 and 2009.

ENGINEERING TALK
"Forty-three cars on the two miles of wide open spaces at MIS is believable, 43 cars on the ridiculously-tight, high-banked half mile of Bristol is almost surreal. Yet, the team that has the handling package that keeps them up front all night will almost always prevail. Bristol often looks like "car fights" and some believe it's about being aggressive, but I'll bet on the good handling car to win here every time."
Howard Comstock, Dodge Motorsports Engineering

DODGE MOTORSPORTS QUOTE OF THE WEEK
“The record book shows that they’ve won the last four championships in a row. I guess it’s true when they say that if you want to be the man, you’ve got to beat the man. I poured my heart and soul into trying to beat the 48 and win the race at Bristol in the spring. I just hope I can have that big of opportunity to get the job done this time around.”
Kurt Busch, No. 2 Miller Lite Dodge Charger, discussing his battle with Jimmie Johnson last spring at Bristol

DODGE DRIVER QUOTES
“All you have to do is go back and look at my first Cup race at Bristol back in 2001. It wasn’t pretty. As a matter of fact, it was downright ugly. The first time I crashed that day, it was on my on. The second time I wrecked, I was in a big pileup. I guess you could say that the third time was the charm, in that we punctured the radiator in that crash.
Kurt Busch, No. 2 Miller Lite Vortex Dodge Charger

“During the last two races at Bristol Motor Speedway, we were running inside the top-10 with less than 50 laps to go and then had problems cost us a good finish each time. That being said, I feel like Bristol is a place that was very difficult for me when I first came over here and began running stock cars, but it’s somewhere that I have really grown to enjoy. I’m looking forward to running there again because I feel that we've got great opportunities at Bristol with the Mobil 1 Dodge.

“Racing at Bristol is a unique experience. You're doing the pace laps and going slow getting ready to start the race and you look out the left-hand window and you can see inside the car below you. Not to mention that you're over on the left side of your seat, which is different than it is in the race. To me, the pace laps are one of the neatest things about Bristol because you realize how banked the track really is.”
Sam Hornish Jr. No. 77 Mobil 1 Dodge Charger

“Bristol is one of those tracks where you always have to be mindful of your pace, where you are on the track and who you are around. But you also have to be looking forward so that you can avoid that wreck that happens half of a straightaway in front of you. Short track racing and restrictor-plate racing are very similar in that you can get caught up in a wreck that you had nothing to do with.”
Brad Keselowski, No 12 Penske Dodge Charger

DODGE BOYS SPRINT CUP 2010 BEST

• Kurt Busch
Start – Pole - Las Vegas
Finish – Win - Atlanta, Charlotte 1

• Brad Keselowski

• Sam Hornish Jr.

Dodge Motorsports NNS Race Advance - Food City 250 - Bristol Motor Speedway

BRISTOL, Tenn. , Aug 18, 2010 - For Immediate Release
Dodge Motorsports NNS Race Advance
Food City 250
Bristol Motor Speedway
Friday, Aug. 20, 2010

Dodge in 2010 NASCAR Nationwide Series
* In 11 previous Nationwide Series starts at Bristol Motor Speedway, Penske Racing Dodge entries have recorded two wins (Ryan Newman, 8/05 and Allgaier, 3/10) along with five top-five and eight top-10 finishes.

DODGE NUGGETS
• Justin Allgaier will serve as ESPN’s in-race reporter for Friday’s live broadcast of the Food City 250.
• Penske Racing’s two NASCAR Nationwide Series entries have combined for six poles and five wins along with 23 top-five and 33 top-10 finishes. Penske Dodges have been atop the leader board for 988 laps.
• Prior to Allgaier’s win in the spring, the last win by Dodge in the Nationwide Series at BMS was Kasey Kahne’s victory in a 2007.

JUSTIN ALLGAIER – No. 12 Verizon Wireless Dodge
Highlights:

• Allgaier earned his first NASCAR Nationwide Series win earlier this year at Bristol Motor Speedway, leading a 1-2 finish for Penske Racing and Dodge.
• Allgaier will pilot Penske Racing chassis PRS-007, the same chassis that he won with at Bristol earlier this season.
• Allgaier has one win, six top-five, and 12 top-10 finishes in 23 races.
• Allgaier is fourth in the Nationwide Series driver standings.
• Allgaier has one win and two top-five finishes in three previous Nationwide starts at BMS.
• Allgaier was the 2009 Nationwide Series Rookie of the Year.

BRAD KESELOWSKI – No. 22 Discount Tire Dodge
Highlights:

• Keselowski currently leads the Nationwide Series standings by 347 points over Carl Edwards. He has led the standings since his win at Talladega in April.
• In seven previous starts at the .533-mile, high-banked oval, Keselowski has one win along with four top-five and five top-10 finishes. He’s started from the pole twice.
• Keselowski earned back-to-back wins at Talladega and Richmond and has four wins in 2010.
• He leads the Nationwide Series in top fives (17), top 10s (20) and laps completed (4,037). He has only one finish outside the top 15 (Chicago – 21st).
• Keselowski has a NASCAR record 90 consecutive Nationwide Series races without a DNF (Did Not Finish).

DODGE NATIONWIDE QUOTES
“I’ll be completely honest with you, ever since I laid eyes on Bristol Motor Speedway I’ve been in love with the place. I went there as a fan and watched races, but the first time I went there as a driver and walked down the track into the garage area, it was surreal. The first time I raced there, I think it took me about five laps, but we went to the top of the board. I felt like I got it right away. There aren’t many race tracks that I can say that about. The cars are changing, the track is changing, and drivers continue to get better, but I feel that Chad (Walter, crew chief) and I have been able to evolve there and run well. And it’s a great place to have that feeling for.”
Justin Allgaier, No. 12 Verizon Wireless Dodge Charger

“The success of Dodge in the Nationwide Series is a breath of fresh air for several reasons. It means a lot to the sport to have all of the manufacturers running competitively. I believe that Dodge is getting as much out of their motorsports program as they have since they came back in. I feel proud to be a part of that, especially since my family has enjoyed a long relationship with the Dodge brand. To be in position to give them their first Nationwide Series championship is very cool. It’s easy to forget that this No. 22 Discount Tire Dodge team is still in its first year together.”
Brad Keselowski, No. 22 Discount Tire Dodge Charger

Dodge Motorsports Notes & Quotes - NSCS Final Qualifying - Bristol 2

BRISTOL, Tenn. , Aug 20, 2010 - Friday, August 20, 2010

IRWIN Tools Night Race
Post-Qualifying Quotes

BRAD KESELOWSKI (No. 12 Penske Racing Dodge Charger) Qualified 15th
"We were just a little bit free. All four corners were about equal, but not a bad run for this Penske Dodge. It’s awful slick out there and you just can't overdrive the car. Otherwise, you run the risk of snapping the back end free. It was a real solid effort by the guys to keep working on this Penske Dodge all day long. I'll take a top-15 starting position here. It's a long race. We just need to stay clean, stay patient and be there to challenge at the end."

KURT BUSCH (No. Miller Lite “Vortex” Dodge Charger) Qualified 20th
"We were just too tight in the center (of the corner) and too loose coming off of Turn 4. We just haven't been able to get the Miller Lite Dodge to turn the center like we need to so far. It's been a little bit of a struggle."

SAM HORNISH JR. (No. 77 Mobil 1 Dodge Charger) Qualified 25th
"We've been working really hard to get the Mobil 1 Dodge to turn in the center of the corners. We've done everything that we know to do today, but it didn't make it much better. We went out there for qualifying and it was still free in the middle. I couldn't get back to the throttle fast enough. It wasn't a bad lap. Our early qualifying draw didn't help, but a solid effort by the guys. We raced really well here in the spring, so we'll see what happens."

Dodge Motorsports Notes & Quotes - Kurt Busch Open Interview - Bristol 2

BRISTOL, Tenn. , Aug 20, 2010 - Friday, August 20, 2010

Bristol Motor Speedway Dodge Motorsports PR
IRWIN Tools Night Race at Bristol
Kurt Busch Open Interview

KURT BUSCH (No. 2 Miller Lite Vortex Dodge Charger)

WHAT’S YOUR OUTLOOK FOR THIS WEEKEND? “It’s always exciting to come back to Bristol. This is one of the marquee events on the schedule. Our team is pumped up about it. To get to victory lane is on the top of our list. With where we finished last week, yeah, it was a bummer to have an engine failure leading up to the Chase. Our point situation is comfortable. We feel like coming here is business as usual. We had a nice good run here in March. We basically have the same car as we did in March; we just tweaked it a little bit. It’s just not turning as well and the rear end isn’t sticking as good because of the rubber on the race track and the heat that we experience here in August versus March. Just a few more minor tweaks and I think that we’ll be in the ballpark.”

HAS THE WAY THE RACE ENDED HERE LAST MARCH CHANGED YOUR APPROACH TO TOMORROW’S RACE? “If you’re smart enough, you should just count cars as you come off of pit road and if you’re going to end up in an odd numbered position, pull over, check up on the brakes and let somebody pass you, that way you start on the outside lane. It’s that important to start on the outside lane especially when guys in front of you have two tires because they just bottle up the inside lane and there’s nowhere to go.”

ARE YOU CALMED DOWN ON THE INCIDENT WITH THE 48? “It’s not an issue. The way that the whole line of events ended up, we were at a road course after a race where a Hendrick car ran into us. We got plowed by the 24 at Sonoma and we got caught up in a bump-drafting miscue at Pocono. Most of it was intentional; just the coincidence of it being Watkins Glen…a road course…that was my frame of mind. The last few road course races, I struggled to finish because we’ve been taken out.”

HAVE HAD A TOUGH TIME ADJUSTING TO THE TIRES THIS WEEKEND? IS DODGE AT A DISADVANTAGE BY NOT BEING ABLE TO HAVE A DRIVER AT EVERY TIRE TEST? “I was joking with the crew chief this week because I didn’t know that they changed tires until Tuesday. Any place where we do good, they either change the tire or take it off the schedule (laughs). We’re always fighting an uphill battle. You have to find ways to make your team stronger no matter what tracks end up on the circuit. You’ve got to bring your “A” game and sort it out. Unfortunately we lose the Atlanta race in the spring (2011), but we’ve got to go to Kentucky with our minds open and hopefully we find the right setup to get our cars dialed in there. Just like this weekend, they change their tires around and you have to do the best with it that you can. They’re not going to change it overnight to help us out. But we’re at a disadvantage by not having a Dodge at a tire test, but that’s the bed that we made and we’ll have to lay in it.”

ARE YOU GOING TO RACE THE 48 ANY DIFFERENT THAN THE OTHER 41 DRIVERS TOMORROW?
“There’s a lot of things that go into it. When a second-place car catches a leader, it’s because the second-place car is faster. With the way that the groove is here, the outside groove is the preferred groove. You’ll have to see where he’s running. He might be slow in Turn 2 and that might be our best corner. You always have to adjust because every circumstance is different. You really just can’t go out there and have a mindset of, ‘I’ve got to do this’. You have to go out there with the mindset of adjusting to Bristol and racing this race track because things happen in a thousandth of a second.”

DO YOU KNOW WHY GOODYEAR BROUGHT THIS PARTICULAR TIRE TO BRISTOL? “Because a lot of teams were on the edge here in March; there were a lot of tire blowouts on long green-flag runs. If you were to bring the same tire that was marginal in March, you’re definitely going to be on edge when it’s warmer in August.”

Dodge Motorsports Notes & Quotes - NNS Race Final - Bristol 2

BRISTOL, Tenn. , Aug 20, 2010 - Friday, August 20, 2010

Dodge Motorsports PR
Food City 250
Post-Race Quotes

BRAD KESELOWSKI (No. 22 Discount Tire Dodge Charger) Finished 14th
"We had an awesome Discount Tire Dodge. We ran a heck of a race. We got up to the front legitimately. I’m proud of my team for that and then we got intentionally wrecked. It is what it is. We'll go to work and work on beating his (Kyle's) ass.

“Early in the race, I had the lead on a restart and he ran me up the track in (Turns) 3 and 4 and I lifted, gave him the lane there when I didn’t have too. Just being a good guy, because I’m a member of the good guy club. But when the end of the race comes, man you don’t let people in line. They ought to know better than try and take it. That answers it all right there. I’m on probation for racing hard and that allows everyone to intentionally wreck me. We made good moves in the race and worked our way to the front. We had a great car. The fans saw what happened. He’ll get his.

“Just hard racing man. I was going for it. I was on the outside, he was on the inside, and he got a great run through (Turns) 1 and 2. He did a good job. He got up…almost cleared me and kind of took for granted that I would let him in line and I didn’t. That’s his right; nothing to complain about. We’re going to keep working on our Discount Tire Dodge for next week, the week after and every other week.”

DID BEING ON PROBATION COME INTO YOUR MINDSET AFTER THE INCIDENT WITH THE 18? “Oh yeah, absolutely. I was certainly aware of it. I just go to work and not let it (the incident) change the way that I drive even after the contact I had with the 18.”

PARKER KLIGERMAN (No. 42 Dodge Charger) Finished 9th
“It’s a testament to all the guys on this Team 42 crew. There are three guys in the shop that are working their tails off preparing our cars. I said it after the first practice and I said it before the race, no matter where we finish, these guys are champions in my eyes. To come out here and punch way above my weight with Cup drivers and Cups teams is a great feeling. I just have to thank everyone at Team 42 and Penske for giving me a great Dodge Charger tonight.”

JUSTIN ALLGAIER (No. 12 Verizon Wireless Dodge Charger) Finished 33rd
"Man, what a tough break for this Verizon Wireless Dodge team. They gave me such a great race car tonight. We got into Kasey (Kahne) early in the race and that set us back. When you get behind the eight ball, you try so hard to get back to the front. We got back out there and things got tight. It looks like the 35 car got into us. I think that he thought that I was going to the bottom and they just ran into us. It's a shame. This was one fast Dodge Charger and my guys didn't deserve this kind of finish. That's racing at Bristol. Sometimes fate does you in and tonight was one of those days."
