Aerial Tow Record Attempt

Friday, 01 Oct 2010, 10:54 AM CDT

Quote:
DALLAS - An attempt by Chrysler on Friday to break a world record by towing an enormous banner via helicopter went awry. But the company might still have broken the world record.

The spectacle took place at about 7:15 a.m. at the Dallas Executive Airport in Dallas.

Things started off smoothly as the Bell 412 twin engine chopper hoisted the 53,000-square-foot banner into the air.

However, after a brief moment airborne the Dodge Ram pickup truck ad, on a swath of black fabric nearly the size of a professional football field, snapped free and began plummeting back to Earth in a tangled mess.

Still, the company may have actually entered the record books.

Prior to the flight, Chrysler said it would officially break the record the moment the banner lifted from the runway.
