GM Announces Recall Of 2012 Chevy Colorado, GMC Canyon Pickups
General Motors is recalling some 5,220 model year 2012 Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon pickup trucks, to repair a potentially loose connection on the driverís seatbelt warning system. Trucks affected by this recall were manufactured between September 9 and October 19, 2011.
On certain models, an electrical connector used on the driverís seatbelt warning system may not have a snug fit. As a result, the connector can work loose and fail to provide the driver with a visual or audible warning that their seat belt is not fastened.
In the event of a crash, occupants not wearing seat belts are at higher risk of injury than belted occupants.
General Motors will notify owners of the recall, expected to begin on or about November 30, 2011. Dealers will inspect the connectors and replace as necessary, and customers with questions or concerns can reach Chevroletís customer service hotline at (800) 630-2438 or GMCís customer hotline at (866) 996-9563.
Updates on this recall can also be found at the National Highway Traffic Safety Administrations Vehicle Safety Hotline, which can be reached at (888) 327-4236.
