June 2, 2019 — Fiat Chrysler (FCA) is recalling more than 17,000 model year 2018-2019 Ram 1500 trucks because the driveshafts may break due to weld problems.

FCA opened an investigation in August 2018 after receiving six warranty claims for busted driveshafts that were built within a month of each other, and all the vehicles had less than 5,000 miles.

The supplier found problems with the welds where the tubes and yokes interfaced, but by December 2018 no additional broken driveshafts were reported.

In January 2019, the automaker learned about two more busted driveshafts that were built in the same range as the previous broken driveshafts. The supplier found the same weld problems, but this time higher mileage trucks were involved.

Although warranty claims and complaints have been received, Chrysler says it isn't aware of any crashes or injuries related to the broken driveshafts.

A driver may hear noise or feel vibrations prior to the weld completely separating.

The 4x4 Ram 1500s were built between March 16, 2018, and April 20, 2018, with 10,160 of the recalled trucks in the U.S., and another 6,686 recalled in Canada.

The Ram 1500 driveshaft recall will begin June 15, 2019, when dealers will replace the rear driveshafts.

If you own a 2018-2019 Ram 1500 and want to learn more about the driveshaft recall, please call FCA at 800-853-1403 and mention recall number V48.

Driveshaft May Fracture and Separate

A fractured rear driveshaft could detach from the vehicle and become a road hazard, or it may result in a loss of drive power, both of which can increase the risk of a crash.

Manufacturer Chrysler (FCA US LLC)

Components POWER TRAIN

Potential Number of Units Affected 10,160

Summary

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2018-2019 Ram 1500 pickup trucks. The rear driveshaft may have an incomplete weld fusion between the tube and tube yoke, which may lead to weld cracking or the driveshaft fracturing.

Remedy

FCA US will notify owners, and dealers will replace the rear driveshaft, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin June 15, 2019. Owners may contact FCA US customer service at 1-800-853-1403. The FCA US recall number is V48.

Statement: Module

Statement: Module
June 7, 2019 , Auburn Hills, Mich. - FCA US is voluntarily recalling an estimated 295,981 vehicles in the U.S. to help ensure the function of certain restraint systems.

An FCA US investigation discovered certain vehicles are equipped with occupant restraint control modules that may not properly reset when their engines are turned off. This software error may inadvertently disable air bags and seat belt pretensioners, making these devices unavailable in a collision.

Data collected by FCA US indicate the potential for such an event is highly remote. Further, the Company is unaware of any related injuries or accidents.

Nevertheless, FCA US is conducting this recall out of an abundance of caution and urges customers, as always, to follow the instructions on their recall notices.

Affected are certain model-year 2019 Ram 1500 pickups, nearly one-third of which are still in dealer hands. Twenty-six model-year 2020 vehicles also are in the recall population, but these are pre-production trucks in the Company’s control.

Service, which is free of charge, is expected to be available this month. Customers will be advised accordingly; those with questions may call 1-800-853-1403.

If a vehicle has exhibited the defect, an instrument-panel warning light may illuminate. Technicians will replace modules in such cases; otherwise, they will update the module’s software.

Additional vehicles will be subject to recall in Canada (est. 38,884), Mexico (est. 1,817) and certain markets outside North America (est. 6,154).

ORC May Malfunction and Disable Safety Functions

Summary

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2019-2020 Ram 1500 vehicles. The flash memory of the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) may become corrupted, disabling the vehicle's air bags and seat belt pretensioners.

Remedy

Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will reprogram the ORC or replace it as necessary, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin July 20, 2019. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's numbers for this recall are V61 and V71.

July 5, 2019 — A 2019 Jeep Renegade recall for 745 vehicles is needed to repair airbag problems in Renegades equipped with Upland trim packages.

Fiat Chrysler says the occupant restraint controllers may not have been calibrated correctly, causing the airbags to deploy incorrectly in crash impacts.

Chrysler says a frontal collision below 16 mph but sufficient enough to trigger a low-output airbag deployment may cause the airbag to deploy at high output.

Instead of the airbag protecting an occupant in a low-speed crash, the airbag could cause more harm than the crash.

Chrysler expected to begin contacting Jeep Renegade owners July 31, 2019, then dealers will reprogram the occupant restraint controllers.

Model year 2019 Jeep Renegade owners may call the automaker at 800-853-1403. Chrysler's Jeep Renegade recall number is V73.

July 6, 2019 — Chrysler is recalling its 2014 Jeep Cherokee SUVs equipped with 3.2-liter engines because the transmissions may unexpectedly shift into neutral.

Fiat Chrysler (FCA) says the transmission software may shift the transmission into neutral if the clutch gets stuck in the transmission.

The automaker says 91,650 Cherokees are affected by the recall, something that allegedly can be fixed by updating the transmission software.

Chrysler opened an internal investigation in May 2019 after hearing from engineers about transmissions shifting into neutral.

Engineers found a stuck valve in the transmission valve body can prevent clutch deactivation and result in a transmission-commanded shift to neutral. This will cause the Cherokee to suddenly lose the ability to continue forward no matter how fast the SUV is traveling.

FCA doesn't know of any crashes or injuries related to the transmission problem, but hundreds of field reports and more than 3,000 warranty claims have been received.

In the U.S., 81,165 Cherokees are recalled and another 10,485 SUVs are recalled in Canada.

The 2014 Jeep Cherokees were built in Toledo between February 27, 2013, and July 11, 2014.

The recall is expected to begin August 2, 2019, but Cherokee owners may contact Chrysler at 800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is V69.

July 21, 2019 — Chrysler is recalling about 560 model year 2019 Ram 2500 and 3500 trucks, and 3500, 4500 and 5500 Cab Chassis vehicles equipped with diesel engines and fuel lines that may leak fuel into the engine compartments.

A single ignition source could easily cause a fire.

Fiat Chrysler (FCA) opened an investigation in May after a report of leaking fuel lines at the diesel engine supplier, Cummins. The leak was determined to come from a fuel line with incorrectly formed end fittings that didn't properly seal.

Although the leaks consist of "drips," the fuel can still hit engine components and start engine compartment fires.

About 498 Ram trucks are recalled in the U.S. and 63 are recalled in Canada.

The Ram truck recall is expected to begin August 16, 2019, when dealers will replace any affected fuel lines.

Customers with questions should call 800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is V76.

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles says it has fix for Jeep 'Death Wobble'

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles says it has fix for Jeep 'Death Wobble'

Aug. 10, 2019

A key Fiat Chrysler Automobiles executive says the company has a solution for what's known as the Jeep “Death Wobble."

The company will install a new steering damper, a part also known as a stabilizer, in affected Jeep Wranglers in an effort to address the steering wheel vibration reported by some owners after their vehicles hit a bump at highway speeds, an experience many describe as frightening. Mailings announcing the campaign were to be sent to customers beginning Friday.

Quote:
The issue, which FCA says is not a safety problem but which many owners insist must be, is the subject of a lawsuit in federal court in Detroit. A Free Press report in November on the "Death Wobble," prompted a flood of emails from Jeep customers grappling with the issue.

"Death Wobble" is a dramatic-sounding term, but FCA said it is not aware of fatalities or injuries caused by the phenomenon.

The lawsuit, however, raises questions about the use of a steering damper, essentially a type of shock absorber, as a way to address the issue, calling it a "Band-Aid fix." The lawsuit, filed in June, said the wobble will return and "can only be remedied by substantial revisions and repair to the suspension."

A new steering damper, however, is the solution FCA is proposing.
