Chrysler working on smaller Pentastar V6, will debut in Jeep Liberty successor

Mar 14, 2012

Jeep Liberty Arctic

According to union sources familiar with the plans, Chrysler Group LLC is working on a smaller version of the 3.6 liter Pentastar V6 engine. The engine will likely be produced at a plant in suburban Detroit and will debut in the upcoming replacement for the Jeep Liberty.

Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne has previously said the Liberty successor will debut at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show.

According to Bruce Baumhower, president of UAW Local 12 in Toledo, Ohio, where the Liberty successor will be built, the vehicle is expected to have a 3.2 liter V6 Pentastar and a ZF 9-speed transmission.

Chrysler has kicked off a $500 million renovation at its Toledo North Assembly plant to make the replacement for the Liberty.
