Video: Detroit Lions standout Ndamukong Suh stars in new spot for Chrysler 300

Wednesday, May 04, 2011

The Ford family may sign his game checks, but Detroit Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh is helping sell a Chrysler.

Suh stars in "Homecoming," a new television ad for the Chrysler 300 that apparently debuted last weekend during the 2011 NFL draft.

Like Eminem in the automaker's hit Super Bowl ad, Suh stoically drives a Chrysler through the streets of his hometown -- in this case, Portland -- while a grizzly voice extols the virtues of hard work and humble beginnings.

"Show where you're going without forgetting where you're from," the narrator says after Suh pulls up to a small home, gets out of the sedan and hugs his mom.

The ad is the latest in Chrysler's successful "Imported from Detroit" campaign, also slated to feature Dr. Dre and fashion designer John Varvatos, who grew up in the Motor City.

"This will be a breakthrough in terms of how you speak about luxury (in) this country," Chrylser brand President Olivier Francois said last month when he announced the expanded campaign. "It doesn't speak about luxury in terms of just aesthetic, but about luxury in terms (of) the spirit."

While the NFL lockout continues, Suh reportedly plans to participate in the upcoming Gumball 3000, a 10-country race sponsored by video game developer Ubisoft. A consummate spokesman, Suh told ESPN he plans to drive either a Chrysler 300, Dodge Challenger or Charger.
