Viper's got fangs But it may be the end of the 17-year road at Chrysler for this gorgeous stick of dynamite
The test-drive car arrived with a "For Sale" sign in the window.
And not for just this vehicle: It's buy one, buy all as Chrysler has put its "halo" Dodge Viper on the block. A garage sale and the garage is included.
Chrysler has hired a financial consultant to serve as adviser for the sale of its two-seat, 600-horsepower V-10 beauty.
Blame gas prices–yes, Viper's a sipper—as well as a need for cash.
"We've been approached by interested third parties" and "agreed to listen to these parties," said Bob Nardelli, Chrysler chairman and CEO, of a sale that would provide the money to focus on the core and higher volume car and truck business.
Viper is hand-built and low-volume. Dodge has sold a little more than 25,000 since 1992, a tiny fraction of total sales. Still there's something to be said for a car that makes passersby drool.
We got our hands on a 2008 SRT10 coupe to test before the operation changes hands.
