Dodge Nitro 2.8-liter diesel (CRD) INFO

I thought I'd post this here for the benefit of Nitro CRD owners wanting (even) more torque from the already massive 460Nm.

Performance module from Germany for CRD Nitros
TDC Technologies, LLC

Another performance chip for CRD from Europe - it costs more than the TDC one and the performance figures seem realistic enough:

Untitled Document

It looks more sophisticated than TDC and has adjustment. Basically the new figures are 160KW/580NM !!!

And another European chip from Steinbauer:
STEINBAUER Tuning Technologies
Dyno chart for the Steinbauer:

And this one from Oz specialising in diesel, and you can adjust via your laptop if you have heavily modified your 4WD.
DPChip - Diesel Power Chip - 35% More Power & Torque for all EFI Diesel Cars, 4WD's, Trucks and Boats.

Read the FAQS from dpchip. It is really informative and seems to justify why they are more expensive than the other I mentioned above. I am leaning towards them at the moment despite the higher price, because they seem to know what they are talking about, specialising in diesel engines, the figures for the Nitro look realistic and not over-exaggerated, and the design technique of their chips.
DPChip frequently asked questions. All you ever wanted to know about the Diesel Power Chip and more...

And if that's not enough power for you, throw this kit in for an extra 250HP:

The only problem is that none of the Nitro transmissions can handle that kind of power long term.

Nitro 2.8l SXT CRD

Thought I would drop a short post to say hi from the UK.

I just collected my brand new Dodge Nitro SXT CRD Auto on Tuesday and am absolutely loving it. Even more so, since I have found that it was built and imported from the USA for me!

I think that I may be one of the first, if not the only (!), person so far in the UK to buy a Nitro as I have not seen any around here at all. However, I am seeing more and more Calibers on the roads here.

Would love to hear from you all. I will post some pics of my baby as soon as get them on the computer, but be warned, the weather is not as good here as it is probably over in the U.S

Welcome to Nitro Girl UK

Welcome!

I'm a newbie here too ... got my 08 Nitro on Jan 1st. Still dealing with a torque converter that's engaging too early, but other than that, I love it.

Isn't a Nitro a pretty large vehicle for the UK? But then, maybe your cars aren't as small as I saw in Italy. A Nitro would be a tank over there!

There are quite a few people from the UK that have nitro's, but it is nice not to see a lot of them on the road. There are quite a few around me.

Welcome to the boards.

Hi guys,

and yes, the Nitro is quite big for the Uk, but not too bad. There are a few other 4x4's here that are approximately the same size.

It's been a week since I picked it up now and I still can't wipe the grin off of my face !

Tuner Special: O.CT Dodge Nitro

LUSTENAU, Austria — Oberscheider Chip Tuning has transformed an unlikely SUV — the diesel Dodge Nitro — into a performance-tuned machine by reprogramming the engine control module with a simple download.

Output from the 2.8-liter diesel is increased from 177 to 202 horsepower, while torque increases by 33 pound-feet to 372 lb-ft. The tuned Nitro reaches 60 mph in less than 9.9 seconds, 1.5 seconds faster than a stock diesel Nitro. Getting to 100 mph comes 9 seconds quicker, at 26.5 seconds, in the O.CT Nitro.

The installation process turns the buyer into a mechanic through a download process that only takes 30 minutes. Using a handheld device that connects to the Internet and a car's OBD (onboard diagnostics) port, a buyer can reprogram the car's computer with O.CT's new maps without ever leaving home.

Oberscheider claims the modifications have a minimal effect on fuel consumption. The 2.8-liter diesel is not offered on Nitros sold in the United States. Jeep discontinued U.S. sales of the Liberty CRD that used the same diesel engine in 2007 — because the engine did not comply with toughened federal emissions regulations.

but we have much higher demands on emisions in Europe then what you have in US. but we put a partikel filter on it so it can have better emisions.

Well here's some real feedback.

I purchased the TDC unit and what can I say apart from Oh My God! The power difference is amazing and for what.... £135!

My other car is a Porsche and to get that type of power hike would cost me in excess of £2000! no more!

Not sure on the MPG yet as I have only fitted the unit 2 days ago and I am driving like a loon at the moment so this wouldn't be a fair comparison.

Ladies and Gentleman - this is a very worthy upgrade
