Danica Patrick Says She Isn’t Really a Car Person

Sep 13, 2017

NASCAR’s Danica Patrick has revealed she isn’t really a car person.

In a recent interview with The Street, the 35-year old racing driver said she’s “just not a car person,” adding that she is “not into buying rare cars, fixing up a car, talking about cars,” or anything else of that sort. This may come as a surprise to some considering Patrick is an active NASCAR driver and IndyCar race winner – but the reality is that many racing drivers aren’t the car aficionados you might expect them to be.

Patrick also said she drives a Ford Expedition, which isn’t owned by her but is rather a company car through Ford. The only car she owns is a Lamborghini Gallardo, which is in storage. An interview with the Illinois native from 2012 revealed she isn’t too keen on driving the Gallardo as it lacks cup holders and she’s pretty keen on her coffee, so it will probably stay in storage for the foreseeable future.

Stewart-Haas Racing announced this week that Patrick would no longer drive for the team from 2018 onward. Smithfield Foods has jumped ship from Richard Petty Motorsports and is heading to SHR, which caused some sort of conflict within SHR that prompted Patrick’s departure.

“It has been my honor to drive for Tony Stewart, Gene Haas and everyone at Stewart-Haas Racing for the past six seasons,” Patrick said in a statement. “Together we earned a Daytona 500 pole, seven top-10 finishes and we also had some exciting racing along the way. My time driving for them, however, has come to an end due to a new sponsorship arrangement in 2018. Sponsorship plays a vital role in our sport, and I have been very fortunate over the course of my career, but this year threw us for a curve.”

Danica will finish off the 2017 NASCAR season with SHR, saying she remains focused on the racing season and hopes to finish the year on a high note.
