Recall Alert: 2006/2011 Ford Floor Mats
Ford Recalls Some Fusions, Lincoln MKZs For Faulty Floor Mats
Ford has found a problem with all-weather floor mats on certain 2006-2011 Ford Fusion, Mercury Milan, Zephyr, and Lincoln MKZ sedans--and the problem requires a recall.
On these vehicles, the all-weather floor mats might have been improperly installed at the factory, in that they were not secured to the retention device, double-stacked, or secured to a single retention device but grossly out of position. Consequently the mat could move and may interfere with the accelerator pedal--the same general problem that led to one of Toyota's devastating recalls in 2009.
Should the problem with Ford's floor mats occur, the engine may not return to idle and could result in a crash.
Ford is in the process of coming up with a fix. It is expected by July of this year. When parts and procedure info are available, Ford will mail vehicle owners involved via mail.
In the meantime, Ford has not made any suggestions as to what to do while they come up with a fix. In its recall, Toyota suggested owners remove the suspected floor mats.
Only certain vehicles manufactured during specific dates and assembly plant are included in this recall. This can be identified by VIN (Vehicle Identification Number). Call a local dealer with this information, and have the VIN checked to see if a particular vehicle is involved in this recall.
