Recall Alert:2012 and 2013 model year Focus
Ford is recalling certain 2012 and 2013 model year Focus Electric and 2013 Focus ST compact cars for a problem with malfunctioning headlights.
A notice on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) website puts the number of vehicles potentially affected by the recall at 6,308. Affected vehicles are those equipped with High Intensity Discharge (HID) lamps.
The NHTSA bulletin said that Focus Electric vehicles affected by the recall were built from September 15, 2011 through May 6, 2013. Ford Focus ST vehicles involved in the recall were built from February 16, 2012 through May 7, 2013.
According to the NHTSA notice, wiring incompatibility may result in the malfunctioning of the front side marker lamps in affected Focus Electric and Focus ST vehicles. Thus, these vehicles fail to comply with the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 108, “Lamps, Reflective Devices and Associated Equipment.”
Failure of the front side market lamps reduces visibility, which increases the risk of a vehicle crash.
What Ford will do
Ford will notify owners and dealers will modify the wiring of the headlamp assembly in affected vehicles. The service will be performed at no charge.
The Ford safety recall, identified as #13C04, is expected to begin in mid-August 2013. In the meantime, owners of affected vehicles with any questions or concerns may contact Ford at 1-866-436-7332.
Alternatively, owners of vehicles involved in the campaign may contact NHTSA’s Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 or go to Home | Safercar -- National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Reference the NHTSA campaign ID No. 13V335000.
