BMW RECALL: 1.3 Million 5 And 6-Series Models
BMW has issued a worldwide recall affecting more than 1.3 million 5-Series and 6-Series models, including approximately 367,000 examples located in the U.S.
The recall only affects the previous generation 5-series and 6-Series models, built between 2003 and 2010.
The reason behind the latest recall is due to a battery cable cover located inside the trunk which may have been incorrectly mounted.
BMW states that chafing of the cable may result in the electrical system malfunctioning, which may potentially cause a fire though in most cases vehicles will likely to fail to start.
So far no accidents or injuries have been reported due to the particular issue.
Owners of the affected vehicles will be notified in writing in the coming weeks. They will be requested to take their vehicles to their nearest BMW dealer, which will rectify the issue free of charge.
BMW has contacted the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) though the agency’s website, at the time of writing, is yet to be updated with the latest recall info. Concerned owners can contact BMW customer relations at 1-800-525-7417 or via email at [email protected]
