Recall Alert: Kia
Kia Recalls Optima and Rondo Models For Airbag Malfunction
Jan 20, 2012
Kia is recalling 145,755 Optima and Rondo vehicles in the U.S. The affected Optima vehicles are from the 2006 to 2008 model years and were built between Sept. 29, 2005 and Jan. 29, 2008. Affected Rondo vehicles are from the 2007 to 2008 model years and were built between Sept. 13, 2006 and March 21, 2008.
A clock spring contact assembly for the driver’s airbag could become damaged and cause a high resistance condition in the airbag electrical circuit, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. “If the clock spring develops high resistance, in the event of a crash, the drivers air bag will not deploy and will not able to properly protect the driver, increasing the risk of injuries,” NHTSA reports.
If you own one of the affected vehicles, Kia will contact you in March. Kia dealers will replace the clock spring contact assembly free of charge. Owners can call Kia at 1-800-333-4542 or NHTSA at 1-888-327-4236, or visit Home | Safercar -- National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA)
