RECALL ALERT: Kia Optima
2006-2008 Kia Optima Recalled For Shift Cable Issue
Kia is recalling 70,115 Kia Optima models from the 2006 to 2008 model years, all with automatic transmissions, for an issue with the shift cable.
The affected Optima models were made from September 29, 2005 through June 13, 2007, and have a shift cable that might have not been correctly installed. Eventually, the shift cable could detach, allowing the lever to be moved to the park position while the transmission is still actually in gear.
After the affected dates of manufacture, Kia added a positioning clip to the assembly process that solved the issue.
Although no injuries have been reported due to this issue, it could lead to them, either due to a crash or potentially when occupants step out of the vehicle.
Dealers will inspect the shift cable and reinstall or replace it if necessary. Owners will be contacted via first-class mail beginning this month; they may also contact Kia at 800-333-4542.
