RECALL ALERT: VW Jetta

Honda Odyssey and Volkswagen Jetta Recalled

By Rachel Smith

Mar 29, 2011

There are two recalls to report. One is small – it only affects a few thousand Honda Odysseys. The other affects about 71,000 Volkswagen Jettas. We’ll start with the smaller one.

Honda has red-flagged 2,800 Odyssey minivans from the 2011 model year “to replace the side window glass in one or both of the front doors,” the automaker says in a press release. Honda adds that it “is taking this step because there is a potential for one or both windows to become detached from the window regulator, causing the window to become inoperative and preventing it from being rolled up or down. In the worst case, the window may bind and shatter onto the occupants.” There are no reports of injuries or crashes.

This is the second recall on the 2011 Honda Odyssey in about a week. Last Tuesday, we reported that 33,341 models were recalled for a defective windshield wiper rod. Both recalls will begin in mid-April 2011. At that time, Honda will notify affected owners who may take their van to an authorized Honda dealer where the side glass window(s) will be replaced for free. Don’t feel like waiting for Honda to contact you? The automaker says you can determine if your vehicle needs maintenance by going to www.recalls.honda.com or by calling (800) 999-1009, and selecting option 4.

The second recall affects Volkswagen Jetta sedans from the 2011 model year. Volkswagen says it’s recalling 71,043 “Jettas in order to reconfigure a wiring layout associated with the anti-theft alarm system and horn.” In a conversation with a Volkswagen spokeswoman Chicago Breaking Business learned that in “rare circumstances using the horn could cause a short circuit that would, in turn, cause an electronic part called a converter box to disconnect from the car’s power supply.” Converter boxes give power to the headlights, wipers and engine controller. If the engine controller doesn’t receive power, the engine could shut down.

As with the Odyssey, there are no reports of accidents or injuries.

If you’d like more information on either recall, contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to Home | Safercar -- National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

i think i bumped this thread instead of creating new one but seems has something to do with my 95 jetta, which had a problem with the ignition coil. The starter is normal but now that im reaching the 3000 RPM, the problem came back. owned this one for long the seems i need to find a recall and i end up with this thread....thanks for the info anyway....
